Chapter 352 Wait for Me
Jean was in the living room when he heard the doorbell and got up to answer it. He found Neera at the door, clutching her stomach with a pitiable expression. He raised an eyebrow in surprise and asked, âWhatâs wrong? Are you not feeling well?â
âYeah,â Neera replied weakly, her voice lacking energy. She looked embarrassed as she continued, âDo you happen to have any stomach medicine? My stomach is hurtingâ¦â
Jean fell silent for a moment, his tone not particularly warm. âDidnât you just say your stomach was okay?â
Neera gave him a side-eye glance. âWell, itâs usually okay, but sometimes it just acts up at the worst times. Itâs not like I can control it.â
Seeing her pale face and feeling sorry for her, Jean couldnât help feeling both annoyed and amused.
He ushered her into his apartment.
âSit here and wait.â
He placed her in the living room, then fetched a medicine box and a glass of water.
âChoose whichever one you want.â
He opened the medicine box and pushed it toward her, along with the glass of water.
Neera found herself speechless. The situation felt oddly reminiscent of ordering food at a restaurant.
She lowered her head and began rummaging through the medicine box. To her surprise, there were several different types of stomach medicine inside. She realized she had to choose the right one for her situation. She examined each option carefully before finally selecting the one that seemed most suitable for her.
Jean sat across from her, observing as she made her choice and drank the medicine. Only after she had taken it did he speak in a calm voice, âIf you donât have any medicine, couldnât you try dry needling?â
He remembered Penny, the first time he had met her, she had noticed his stomach troubles and performed dry needling therapy, which had proven quite effective.
Neera leaned back on the couch, letting out a sigh of relief before replying in a hushed tone, âIt depends on the specific symptoms. Given my condition, dry needling probably wonât have much effect.
Itâs not an instant solution; otherwise, I wouldnât have come here asking for medicine.â
Jean nodded in agreement, âAfter taking the medicine, make sure to rest properly. Donât keep pushing yourself.â
Neera nodded somewhat sullenly and didnât say anything further. Initially, she had planned to head back immediately, but her stomach pain had become unbearable. She lacked the energy and was drenched in cold sweat. With no other choice, she sat there in a pitiable state, looking at Jean.
âUm, if you donât mind, could you temporarily let me stay for a while? Iâll go back once the medicine starts to take effect.â
Jean glanced at her pale face and couldnât help but soften a bit. His response was neither cold nor warm, âDo as you wish.â
Subsequently, he immersed himself in his work, placing his laptop on his lap and reviewing documents.
Neera let out a relieved breath and leaned back on the couch. It didnât take long before drowsiness overtook her mind. Her eyelids grew heavy, and within moments, she had slipped into a light slumber.
Her delicate features reflected in his pupils, like a pebble dropped into a calm lake, causing ripples to spread across its surface.
His gaze flickered momentarily, and he gently rose from his seat, grabbing a blanket to cover her. At the same time, he instructed the butler standing in the hallway, âGo elsewhere and keep busy. Donât disturb her.â
The butler nodded obediently, understanding the situation, and discreetly left the living room.
Over an hour later, Neera gradually awoke. As she looked at the unfamiliar yet familiar ceiling, she paused for a moment before realizing she was in Jeanâs home.
âAwake? How do you feel?â Jeanâs voice broke through her thoughts as she opened her eyes.
Neera quickly regained her bearings, focusing her gaze, and looked at him. âIâm feeling better now, the discomfort has mostly subsided.â
Jeanâs lips curled slightly at the corners, a subtle smile forming. âSeems like the medicine did its job.â
Neera sat up, finally noticing the blanket over her. She smiled, her eyes turning soft as she gazed at him.
âThank you for today.â
Jean dismissed her gratitude with a casual response, âNo need. If youâre ever short on food at home, you can come over here.â
Neera was taken aback by his offer, genuinely surprised. But she didnât decline, and in fact, felt a flutter of excitement.
After all, Jeanâs home boasted Michelin-starred chefs â eating there would be a culinary delight.
Feeling a renewed sense of energy, she agreed with enthusiasm, âAlright! Iâll contribute to the food expenses.â
Jean cast her a sidelong glance, a faint hint of a smile in his eyes. He understood her character quite well and couldnât be bothered with lengthy discussions. He casually tossed out two words, âYour call.â
Glancing at the time, Neera felt it was time to head back. As she rose to her feet, a thought struck her.
âOh, by the way, itâs been a while since your last treatment. Even though you havenât had any recent episodes, you canât sk ip treatment. Todayâs session needs to continue; otherwise, your health wonât hold up for much longer. When are you available?â
Jean had been feeling physically fine for a while and had forgotten about his treatment entirely.
Glancing at the clock, he responded, âI have a long-distance overseas meeting in a little while, likely lasting two hours. How about later tonight?â
Neera nodded, âSure, Iâll come over tonight then. You wait for me!â
With their plans set, she soon left Jeanâs place.
