Wrenn eased her emotions and replied with a hint of gloom, âNo, itâs me⦠I was worried about you and Neera. So, I had TorrentCloud infiltrate the Phisonâs network to see what others were saying online.
Thatâs how I found out.â
It came as a surprise to Jean. After a moment of silence, he replied, âMom, donât worry. Neera will be fine. Iâll take care of her and bring her back safely.â
On the other end, Wrenn sniffed and nodded. Realizing that he could not see her, she made a hum in response.
Before ending the call, she couldnât help but express her concern and gave him some instructions.
âNeera is weak right now. Take good care of her. Prepare some nourishing food for her, and donât let her overexert herself. Make sure she gets plenty of rest.â
Jean affirmed each instruction.
Frederic, feeling quite reassured, comforted his wife, who still clutched her phone anxiously.
âDonât worry, Wrenn. You donât know how precious Neera is to Jean. How could he bear to let any injustice befall her? Youâre overthinking it. Even if you didnât say anything, Jean would still cherish and protect her.â
Wrenn, already in a bad mood, felt even worse after hearing this.
She glanced at him and let out a soft snort. âIâm just worried about Neera. If you werenât unwell right now, I would have flown over to take care of her personally. Do I need to remind Jean? Heâs a man, inevitably a bit careless. I just want to give him a gentle nudge.â
Frederic swallowed nervously. âAre you saying Iâve become a burden?â
Wrenn pursed her lips, her complexion returning to its well-maintained look, appearing youthful and vibrant.
âI might not have explicitly mentioned it, but your heart-the one Neera fought so hard to transplant. She went to great lengths for our family. Now that sheâs facing trouble, thereâs not much we can do to assist.
All I can do is worry.â
Then, as if remembering something, she abruptly stood up, muttering to herself, âNo, no, I still canât rest easy. We have some excellent supplements at home. Iâll go pack them up and send them to Neera.â
Frederic was momentarily speechless.
He grabbed her arm, saying, âWait, those supplements arenât easy to come by. Didnât you spend a lot of effort searching for them?â
Wrenn delicately pushed his hand away. âThis is a matter of priority. Youâve recovered remarkably;
missing a meal wonât harm you. Even if you wish to eat, I can arrange for someone to bring it for you.
At this moment, Neera is the top priority.â
Frederic replied, âBy the time you send it over, Neera might have already recovered.â
Wrenn furrowed her brows, contemplating seriously. âYour point is valid. I might have to arrange for a private plane to get there more swiftly.â

Without paying attention to Fredericâs astonished expression, she hurried to the kitchen, calling out, âMabel, those things I brought back the other dayâ¦â
Joseph happened to enter, cast a glance at the kitchen, and then turned to Frederic with a smile. âDad, keep staring, and youâll start resembling a statue.

Frederic sighed softly. âWhy do I sense that my standing in Aunt Wrennâs heart is steadily diminishing?â
Joseph raised an eyebrow. âItâs not that dire. Just endure it; there will be numerous occasions when she overlooks you in the future.â
Frederic didnât appreciate that remark and gave him a pointed look. âYou, young man, why has your tongue become so sharp?â
Joseph took off his coat, handed it to the servant, and strolled over, taking a leisurely seat across from Frederic. âWith Jean gone, the whole company is on my shoulders. I have to vent and find some joy.â
âYouâre not picking on your old man, are you?â Frederic grumbled, blowing his mustache and narrowing his eyes. âYou see me doing better lately, so youâre back to infuriating me, huh?â
Joseph nearly sprayed water but quickly wiped it off with a handkerchief, laughing until his eyes crinkled.
âNo, no, Iâm just teasing you. Anyway, howâs Neera doing?â
Frederic grunted twice, not bothering to engage in Josephâs banter. âThey say sheâs out of danger, but the injuries are quite severe. Just hearing about it makes me uncomfortable, not to mention Jean. Your Aunt Wrenn, upon hearing it, shed a few tears too.â
The smile at the corner of Josephâs lips softened, and his eyes held a touch of admiration and affirmation.
âNeera is a resilient person. She can endure hardships and withstand torture. No matter the pain she faces, she can grit her teeth and persevere, like a sunflower always reaching for the sun. Such a woman is truly admirable.â
Frederic wholeheartedly agreed with his words, nodding solemnly. âIndeed, thatâs why Jean, despite opposition from the family, stood by her side without hesitation. In my life, I never thought Iâd see Jean so deeply in love.â
âItâs a positive development.â Joseph smiled. âJean excelled in every aspect before, but he lacked a bit of human touch, always too cold and lonely. Now, he finally has someone who can step into his heart, warming it while she accompanies him.â
As he spoke, Josephâs gaze drifted toward the floor-to-ceiling window. In the courtyard, three little ones were playing joyfully with three adorable pets, a scene both dazzling and heartwarming.
âAnd, who would have thought weâd have these three adorable little ones? Jean is truly blessed.â
Fredericâs gaze followed, his features softened, and the lines at the corners of his eyes carried a joyful curve.
âYeah, our family is truly blessed,â he remarked.
Joseph added, âNow we just need Jean to bring Neera back. When that happens, our family can reunite, and I can find some time to spend with my wife and kids.â
At that moment, Wrenn seemed to hear Josephâs voice. She peeked out from the dining room, waving at him.
âYouâre back, Joseph. Come on, wash up and join us. I made clam chowder; have some.
Joseph acknowledged and then winked at Frederic, âDad, Aunt Wrenn has changed a lot lately. Sheâs become much gentler.â
âShe was once excessively stubborn, but now she grasps the essence of what truly counts.â
âI donât mean to create any discord, but the way sheâs handling the relationships with the siblings appears to be outshining you, Dad. Your family reputation is taking a significant blow.â
Frederic grunted, not pleased with the comparison.
He stood up, crossed his arms, lifted his chin in a haughty manner, and walked away without a word.
At that moment, a servant entered with a somewhat puzzled expression, muttering, âWho were those people?â
Joseph, supporting Frederic, casually inquired, âWhatâs going on? Is someone here?â
The servant exclaimed, shaking her head, âItâs nothing. Itâs just that a while ago, two individuals were lingering near the main gate, glancing inside frequently. Their actions appeared somewhat suspicious, and from their clothing, they didnât appear to be locals. However, the moment they noticed me heading out to locate Mr. Harvey, Mr. Sammy, and Ms. Penny, they promptly departed.â
Joseph nodded thoughtfully, thinking it might have been passersby. He didnât say much about it.
This little incident didnât concern anyone and was soon forgotten.
