Robin knitted his brows, giving him a sidelong glance. âCan you stop making a fuss every time something happens? When will you ever change this temper of yours?â
Baxter sneered, âAs long as the Gordon family doesnât return to its rightful hands, I wonât have a momentâs peace!â
Neera closed her eyes, unable to suppress the rage burning within her chest any longer. It scorched her, making her body feel hot all over, her blood boiling in her veins.
A few seconds later, she opened her eyes. Her beautiful pupils were chillingly cold, and her delicate features were veiled with a layer of frost.
Her gaze was fixed intently on Baxter, sharp and piercing. She began to speak slowly, her tone even, yet carrying an oppressive force that brooked no argument. âBased on the fact that I am the head of the Gordon family, the district president, I have the right to send whoever I want. Who do you think you are? Do you think you have the right to question my decisions here? What makes you think you have the right to disagree? Consider your own status. Youâre not even the head of the Gordon family yet. If you want to overrule me, wait until you take my position. Only by then you can make a fuss!â
In just a few words, her entire demeanor had changed. She became assertive and proud, and her eyes held a cold indifference that seemed to look down on everything.
Baxter was taken aback, his mouth half-open, stunned by her sudden shift in momentum. For a moment, he found himself unable to utter a single word.
Neeraâs gaze remained icy and ruthless, yet the corners of his mouth suddenly lifted slightly. However, there wasnât a trace of amusement in his eyes. Instead, they reflected a hint of mockery and ridicule.
âFor those who reason, I can treat them with respect and measured words. But for those who are unreasonable, foolish, and ignorant, to reason with them is a waste of time and breath. Mr. Baxter, even if youâre dissatisfied, youâll have to hold it in. If you still feel wronged or resentful, then donât go.
The Gordon family wonât be affected by your presence or absence. There are plenty of capable people available.â
Baxter was dumbfounded, his face alternating between shades of green and red, like a knocked-over palette. It was quite a spectacle.
He had never taken such a big hit before. He was so angry he felt like his lungs were about to explode, Yet, when Neera spoke, every word carried an undeniable force.
He had no doubt that if he dared to utter another word and upset her, she would truly replace him immediately.
With that knowledge in mind, even if he was so angry he was about to explode, he could only swallow his pride and hold his breath.
Seeing him finally quiet down, Neera let out a scoff, neither light nor heavy, full of mockery.
Afterward, she turned her head to look at Robin. Her expression softened a bit, her tone became more gentle, and she explained things to him in a polite manner, âHandling such matters is a piece of cake for Jean. I can vouch for him with my life. He wonât let the Gordon family down. He is completely trustworthy.â
Robin fell silent for a moment, ultimately offering no objection. He nodded. âAll right. Since youâve already made arrangements, we will follow orders and fully comply with your plans.â
As for Jean, given his renowned reputation, it was likely that his skills were not limited to the business world. He had to be equally adept in handling other matters.
The matter was finally settled, and everyone quickly set off on their own.
After Robin and Baxter left, Neera escorted Jean to the front door, where lan was already waiting in the car.
Jean looked at the young woman, her eyes full of worry and reluctance. He gently squeezed her soft hand, teasing her on purpose by saying, âDonât worry. Iâll be fine. But you, just now, you really surprised me. Who would have thought my usually gentle wife could be so assertive? Youâre no less than me, it seems. Looks like Iâve married a little tigress, huh?â
Neera knew he was trying to lift her spirits, but she found herself completely unable to do so.
One piece of bad news after another left her on edge, her nerves stretched taut. Coupled with physical discomfort her low and anxious mood was hard to control.
Tears welled up all of a sudden. She felt so weak, yet she couldnât control it. Her vision gradually blurred with misty water, obscuring the manâs face.
Seeing her like that, Jean felt his heart breaking.
His Adamâs apple bobbed slightly, his throat tightening. He let out a soft sigh, lowering his head to plant a gentle, reluctant kiss on her forehead.
âDonât cry. Donât be afraid,â he coaxed gently, his voice so tender it was almost unrecognizable, filled with affection and care. âItâs not a big issue. After Iâve taken care of it, I will be back soon. Stay at home and wait for me. Donât get angry with those people and donât pay attention to others. If you have nothing to do, chat with your aunt or video chat with the kids. Remember to eat and sleep on time, got it?â
Neera knew her emotions were running high. She tried hard to hold back, not wanting him to worry about her. She sniffled, holding back her tears, and obediently nodded. âSure, I understand. Donât worry about me. Remember to be very careful. Iâll be waiting for you at home.â
âAll right.â
Time waited for no one. Neera, unwilling to hold him back any longer, urged him to get in the car. Only when the car was completely out of sight did she return to the villa with a sense of unease.
In the car, Jean watched as the figure of the petite woman in the rearview mirror grew smaller and smaller until she was just a dot before he finally shifted his gaze. âNotify Tiago. Dispatch several teams of men to provide support. Be careful. Donât let anyone discover them.â
lan nodded. âYes.â
âAlso, have Colin keep a close watch on Bartitsu Guild and the Gordon residence,â Jean ordered.
Matthew is a ruthless person who wonât stop until he achieves his goal. Who knows what he might do next..
