Neera was taken aback. âHow did you find out?â
Levi could sense that his assumption was correct.
âThe news is spreading rapidly in Kingsview. It is said that Mr. Frederic collapsed at the company, was rushed to the hospital, and is still unconscious. It seems to be true. There are online speculations about what happened to Mr. Frederic, and Mr. Beauvort has been absent for a while, so people are talking a lot. You can imagine the various rumors, mostly unfavorable to Beauvort Group.â
Although he didnât explicitly state it, Neera could infer that it was probably all sorts of negative rumors about Beauvort Group.
Her eyes darkened slightly. After a moment of silence, she said, âMr. Frederic has some heart issues, but the situation is not as pessimistic as it seems. He needs a heart transplant, which is why I asked for your help.â
Levi nodded. âI understand. Donât worry, I will inquire around and try to be of assistance.â
After their conversation, Neera didnât linger. She left the company and went home.
Levi accompanied her downstairs, and just as she was about to get into the car, he suddenly called out, âNeera.â
Neera, halfway through opening the car door, turned to look at him, puzzled. âYes?â
Levi pressed his lips together, then suddenly smiled, a genuine smile from the heart.
âI wish you a happy and long-lasting marriage.â
Neera blinked and also smiled, radiant and charming. âThank you. I also hope you find the person destined for you soon.â
Leviâs expression shifted to one of exhaustion. âI donât know if Iâll have that chance in my lifetime, or if Iâll be that luckyâ¦â
âDonât talk nonsense. Of course, you have a chance.â Neera raised an eyebrow. âYouâre a good person;
thereâs surely someone better waiting for you in the future.â
Watching the car drive away, Levi wore a bitter smile.
Who could possibly be better than her?
But there was no way around it. She didnât belong to him, and even if his love was deep, it didnât matter.
It was better to let go without hesitation and stop tormenting himself.
The moment he voiced it, he truly felt a significant weight lifted from his shoulders.
âWell, being friends is also good, as long as sheâs happy,â he muttered softly.
Looking up at the sky, a wistful smile played on his lips. With a swift turn, he walked back into the company.
Meanwhile, Jean went to the company.
âJoseph.â He nodded and greeted Joseph when he saw him. âIâve been away for a while. Thank you for your hard work.â
Joseph, who was reviewing stacks of documents, put down his pen and walked around the desk upon seeing Jean.
âJean, youâre back. Skip the formalities. Iâm here to help. Have you visited Dad at the hospital?â
âYeah.â Jean nodded, taking a seat across from Joseph. âHeâs still in the intensive care unit, and he hasnât stabilized yet.â
Joseph sighed deeply, his expression turning serious. âDadâs heart must have been bothering him for a while, but he kept it to himself. Coupled with some recent stress, he just couldnât hold on.â
Concerned about the situation at the hospital, he asked, âDid you talk to the doctors? How long until heâs out of danger?â
Jean pursed his lips and provided the details of Fredericâs condition.
As soon as Joseph heard that a heart transplant was needed, his face turned paler.
âIs it that serious? A heart transplant⦠Isnât that very risky? Whatâs the success rate?â
âNeera didnât specify, but she mentioned that itâs best to have the heart ready within a week and perform the surgery as soon as possible. According to her, doing it early increases the chances of success and leads to better recovery. If sheâs confident enough to say that, I believe her.â
Joseph was aware of Neeraâs medical skills and had great trust in her.
âWith Neera around, we can feel more at ease. Has the heart been secured?â
Jean shook his head. âThe hospital immediately contacted major medical centers, but they havenât found a suitable match yet. Iâve instructed lan to search as well. At the moment, all we can do is wait.â
Joseph understood the situation and sighed with a troubled expression.
âDad, knowing he had a heart problem, didnât seek proper treatment and instead kept it to himself, even hiding it from his family.â
On the other side of the table, Jeanâs eyes darkened, and his gaze became somewhat complex.
He recalled the last time Frederic was hospitalized after a car accident. If he hadnât been in such a hurry to leave and had taken the time to give Frederic a thorough examination, would things have not deteriorated to this point? Did he neglect his parents too much?
Seeing him silent for a long time, Joseph understood that he was feeling uneasy and sighed, offering comfort.
âAll right, Jean, donât blame yourself. Dad is stubborn, and he will definitely get through this.â
After a while, Jean uttered a quiet âyes.â
After some time, Joseph brought up the rumors circulating outside.
âShould we release a statement about Dadâs current situation?â
Jean thought for a moment and replied, âNo need. This is a family matter, and Iâll have someone manage the comments from outsiders.â
âWhat about the shareholders? Some are already inquiring.â
âFor the shareholders, letâs address it. We can convene a shareholder meeting, but assure them that this matter wonât affect the companyâs operations. They donât need to panic.â
Finishing his thoughts, he looked at Joseph. âJoseph, Iâll rely on you to handle things at the company for now.â
âCome on, Jean, between brothers, what are you saying? Youâve been busy searching for a replacement heart these days. Donât worry about anything else. Iâve got this. If you need anything, contact me anytime. Iâll find time to visit Frederic at the hospital. By the way, how is Aunt Wrenn holding up?â
Jean pressed his lips together. âShe feels a lot of guilt and is heartbroken, but sheâs coping.â
âThatâs good. Tell her not to be too sad. I believe that Dad will get better.â
