The mention of Jean had Neeraâs expression softening a bit.
âHeâs upstairs playing with the kids. This is a matter concerning the Gordon family, so I donât want to drag him into it.â
Caleb nodded slightly, though amusement briefly flickered in his eyes.
You donât want him to get involved? Tsk, I bet heâs more than eager.
After leaving the Gordon residence, Caleb got into his car and immediately dialed Jeanâs number.
On the balcony of the second floor, the man watched the car drive away from the front gate before picking up the phone with an expressionless face.
âEverythingâs taken care of. Your fiancée still has some reservations, but she didnât refuse.â
Over the phone, Calebâs voice came through, clear and resonant, tinged with a hint of nonchalance.
âHowever, I get the feeling sheâs still suspicious. When do you plan to reveal your true identity to her?
You canât keep her in the dark forever. Anyone would be uneasy in her situation.â
âJust wait a bit longer. Itâs not the right time yet.â
Jean slid open the balcony glass door and went to lean against the railing, his gaze fondly resting on the three little ones in the room, who were enthusiastically playing with Lego blocks. His eyes were filled with warmth.
Caleb clicked his tongue. âYou really do take great care of her, donât you? Yet youâre hiding in the shadows and pushing all the work onto me. You get to have it easy while I suffer. Not only will I be constantly questioned, but I have to deal with that old coot, Matthew, too. Just you wait and see! If Matthew finds out about this, he will definitely cause trouble.â
With a raise of an eyebrow, Jean asked, âAre you complaining to me?â
Caleb gave a light cough, quickly saying, âNo, no, I wouldnât dare. I was just speaking off the cuff. Rest assured, I will definitely handle this matter properly.â
After hanging up the phone, Caleb sighed and instructed his subordinate, who was driving.
âLater, select some capable people and send them to the Gordon family. Be careful not to let the members of Bartitsu Guild discover this, or else it will cause trouble again.â
The subordinate promptly acknowledged the order.
After he left, Neera went upstairs.
âMommy, weâre piecing together a blue robot puzzle. Do you want to join us?â
The little ones saw her and invited her with great enthusiasm.
Neera declined with a smile, âNo thanks, you guys go ahead and play. I need to talk to your daddy about something.â
She slid open the glass door to the balcony, then closed it again.
>Seeing Jean turn off his phone screen, she asked, âWho were you calling? Was it business-related?â
Jean slid his phone into his pocket, casually saying, âIt was a friend, not business.â
æ¥è95%æ Neera thought that something was going on with the company back home but that he was deliberately keeping it from her as he didnât want to worry her.
Feeling apologetic, she said, âI noticed youâve been on the phone a lot lately. Is there something going on at the company? Now that lan has also come over here, thereâs no one overseeing things back home. Thatâs a bit inappropriate, isnât it? If thereâs a tricky situation, you should go back first. Donât waste your time here with me.â
Jean pulled her close to him, gently tapping her well-defined nose.
âIt hasnât been that long since I arrived, yet youâre already chasing me away?â
Neera rubbed her nose, murmuring softly, âIâm not trying to drive you away; Iâm just worried about youâ¦â
Jean chuckled lightly. âDonât worry; the company is under the watchful eye of Joseph. Itâs very stable, so thereâs no need for me to step in. This time, Iâm not going anywhere. Iâm here with you. Whenever youâre ready to go back, weâll take our children and go home together.â
Upon hearing this, a warm feeling spread through Neeraâs heart, putting her at ease.
Following that, she leaned on the intricately carved railing, letting out a long sigh.
Despite knowing the answer, Jean purposely asked, âSo, who just came by?â
Not suspecting him in the least, Neera answered, âIt was Caleb Medicina. He said he wants to help the Gordon family. Heâs willing to send people over to help us gain control over the factions in the five districts.â
âWhat do you think?â Jean asked.
After some thought, Neera gave an honest reply. âOf course, Iâm very grateful. With the guild just waiting for us to slip up, having someone to back us up can naturally alleviate the precarious situation.
However, this means we owe the lord of Lordsworth Estate yet another favor, and Iâm feeling uneasy about that.â
Jean took in her troubled expression and said in a light voice, âThe lord of Lordsworth Estate wonât interfere in trivial matters. If he is helping you, there must be a reason. Since he has no desire to become the district president, it must be because of you having saved his life. After all, saving a life is a favor greater than anything else. These repayments are nothing in comparison. You donât need to be so bothered by it.â
He said all that nonsense with a straight face, wanting to fool Neera.
However, Neera was not so easily fooled.
âBut I canât shake the feeling that thereâs more to this. My curiosity about who this lord really is grows by the day. I have no idea how I can meet him, but perhaps if I do, I might remember something. That would certainly put my mind at ease.â
After a moment of silence, Jean uttered ambiguously, âWell, youâll meet eventually.â
Then, he changed the subject.
âWhat we should be focusing on now is Bartitsu Guild. Matthewâs intentions are already quite clear.
Have you thought of a way to deal with it?â
In response, Neera nodded. âYes, I just discussed it with Uncle Chad. Since the guild wants to send people, let them come. Weâll treat them well, but we wonât give them a chance to take action. Uncle Chad will bring some people over and Mr. Medicina will also send support. Weâll dispatch those men first. If they achieve results, thereâs no need for the guildâs people to intervene at all.â
