Upon returning home, both Chad and Adriana were present. Jean was helping the three little ones practice their writing, and Shane happened to come downstairs.
When she entered, everyone turned to look at her.
âHow did it go? Did the guild give you any trouble?â Shane was the first to ask.
Neera nodded and walked over to sit down. Finally able to relax, she let out a deep sigh of relief. âI knew the guild wouldnât let me join the Council of Elders so easily. What I didnât expect was that they would even coyet the position of district president.â
Chad furrowed his brow upon hearing that. âWhat do you mean? Are they trying to seize control of the district leadership?â
âWell, Mr. Lozano didnât say anything, but the elders were all riled up. They think the Gordon family doesnât deserve to be a district president, let alone join the Council of Elders. They donât want me to join them, and they want me to obediently hand over control as the district president. They even mentioned something about compensating the Gordon family. Their behavior was extremely unseemly and unheard of.â
Shane scoffed, âAs expected, this is what theyâre trying to do. They donât have the ability to seize the white flag themselves, but they sure know how to use the Gordon family as their scapegoat,â
Adriana was deeply worried. âSo what was the outcome? They didnât do anything to you, did they?â
Neera smiled reassuringly, comforting her. âAunt Adriana, donât worry. Iâm doing just fine. After all, I am the head of the Gordon family, not someone who can be easily bullied. Even if they donât respect the Gordon family, they still have to respect the lord. Although I donât know who exactly the lord is, I did save his life. They probably didnât push too hard because of this. Besides, the guild has to show Mr.
Cox some respect too.â
âAvery spoke up for you?â Jean asked, raising an eyebrow.
Neera glanced at him sideways, stuck out her tongue, and quickly corrected herself. âHe spoke for the Gordon family. In any case, the position of district president wasnât taken away, and we successfully joined the Council of Elders. I guess Iâve completed my task satisfactorily, right?â
Shane nodded. âIn that case, the people on Granduncle Baxterâs side should have no more objections.â
Chad asked, âWhat is your position in the Council of Elders?â
âNinth,â Neera answered. âBy the way, Mr. Cox has been promoted to the position of second elder.â
Chad fell into deep thought.
âThey are still somewhat sensible, wary of the power from Lordsworth Estate. They dared not bully you blatantly.â Jean was the first to speak, deciphering the intentions of the guild.
Chad nodded in agreement. âAfter this district president election conference, many issues within the Bartitsu Guild have been exposed. At present, the balance of power has tilted too much toward the lord. Given the current situation of the Bartitsu Guild, they wouldnât dare to provoke the lord. However, the Cox familyâ¦â
Neera saw him deep in thought and asked curiously, âWhat about the Cox family?â
âThe guild suddenly promoted the Cox family. I wonder what their intention is.â
Neeka was puzzled. âThe Cox familyâs status in the Bartitsu Guild has risen again. Isnât that a good thing?â
Neera saw him deep in thought and asked curiously, âWhat about the Cox family?â
âThe guild suddenly promoted the Cox family. I wonder what their intention is.â
Neera was puzzled. âThe Cox familyâs status in the Bartitsu Guild has risen again. Isnât that a good thing?â
Chad shook his head. âSome matters are not as simple as they appear on the surface. Ostensibly, the guild is promoting the Cox family, but in reality, itâs placing the Cox family in a perilous situation.â
âYouâre right,â Shane said, his expression slightly serious. âFor a long time, there has been no change in the elder seats of the Bartitsu Guild. Everyone has been maintaining a superficial balance. But now, the Cox family has. broken this balance. With Averyâs rise in status, it means that the positions of the other six elders will decline. Those elders, who have long been accustomed to being high above, wonât be able to accept such a change. Naturally, they will harbor resentment toward the Cox family.â
Neera immediately understood.
âWhat is the purpose of the guild?â She didnât understand. âAre they creating enemies for the Cox family just because they favor the Gordon family?â
Chad was also confused. âI donât think itâs because they favor the Gordon family. There might be other hidden reasons. But no matter what, Avery should be able to handle it, so thereâs no need to worry too much. If there comes a time when the Gordon family needs to help, we certainly wonât shy away from our responsibility.â
Neera felt the same way. âMr. Cox has helped the Gordon family a lot in the past, and I have always been grateful for it. Iâve been thinking that if there comes a day when I can repay him, if there is really a need for the Gordon familyâs help, I will definitely do my best to assist. It would be a way to repay a fraction of his kindness.â
The three little ones listened with only a vague understanding, but they still nodded their tiny heads, making gibbering noises.
Looking back, Neera suddenly burst into laughter.
These three little ones were so engrossed in listening that they didnât even notice the ink smeared on their faces.
âYou all are turning into little dirty kittens. Go wash up quickly.â
As soon as she said this, everyone turned to look at the children, immediately bursting into laughter. It was quite a lively scene.
Neera looked at her family happily with a smile in her eyes, feeling an immense sense of satisfaction in her heart.
No matter what happened next, as long as their family could continue to be this happy together, she wouldnât be afraid of anything anymore.
