Chapter 21 of 25

Twenty-one

The Patient1,605 words~9 min read

I bounced into work smiling at everyone. People always stare at me as I walk by, it's strange but its been happening for as long as I can remember so I can just shake it off.

"Hey Dr. Shawl!" I called out to my favorite doctor.

"Hey little Locke! How's my favorite little worker bee doing?"

I giggled giving his huge frame a hug.

"A little overwhelmed with this new patient coming but nothing I can't handle." I said, waving my hand before waving goodbye and bouncing back to work.

I wonder who's coming that would have this much panic and preparation surrounding them. I'm pretty excited!

I've been helping Dr. Shawl out with a lot of the patients and I was told to add the new patient, patient 32, to his schedule, meaning I'll most likely get to help out with this mysterious person.

I quickly had everything set up and called in the extra guards to make sure everything is safe.

Dylan, my best friend was assigned to me a while back and will probably be arriving soon. He just follows me around making sure everything is good and safe. Its a little annoying but I appreciate how much he cares and I understand that my job can be dangerous...

Once everything was prepared I made my way to the front office. The guards were all surrounding the area, ready to jump in if necessary. Dylan was standing right behind me, ready to pounce like a little guard dog but I was too excited to care.

We heard the truck that transports patients pull up and doctors swarmed out. I couldn't see much until they finally started making their way over to us, surrounding someone. When they all walked in the guards seemed oddly calm but I just brushed it off, trying to get a peek at our newest addition but there was someone blocking him from my view.

I stood onto my tippy toes, squinting my eyes but I couldn't see anything. I could hear Dylan snickering behind me, probably finding my curiosity amusing but I couldn't care less, I just wanted to see, something inside of me was pulling towards him and I just had to get a peek.

Finally the man who was blocking him from view moved a little and I got a full view. He was gigantic, towering over all the others and definitely buff in all the best ways while still being fairly lean.

I moved my eyes over his body, appreciating it. When I finally looked up to his eyes I found them on me. Watching.

I found myself completely captivated and couldn't help but tense up. I could hear my heartbeat in my ears and my knees felt weak as I leaned against the desk a little. His eyes followed me the entire time he walked away, turning his head to look back at me before he finally disappeared behind the wall.

Finally I snapped out of it, blushing a little once I noticed everyone staring at me as I gawked at the beautiful specimen that just walked in.

I fanned my face a little, giggling to myself when I turned around to an angry looking Dylan.

He was looking off into the distance furiously, looking like he was about to burst and go chasing after him.

I reached up, touching his arm a little with a concerned expression on my face.

"Dylan? You okay?" I asked and he snapped out of it. H turned his head back to me and his face softened.

"Ya, ya I'm totally fine. Sorry. Just, stay away from that one okay?"

"Dylan..." I drawled out but he shook his head.

"Opal."

"You're not my parent or my boss, you can't tell me what to do."

He groaned rolling his eyes, "Why are you so stubborn?"

I shrugged a little giving him a devilish smile before hopping back to work, practically skipping down the halls in anticipation of working with him. This will be so exciting!

KING'S POV

Step one, done. I've done this plan more times than I can count this point but I think this is the one. It has to be.

I need her to fall so helplessly in love with me that she won't care that I'll be ruling a kingdom with another woman, she'll just be happy being my side chick, doing whatever I want whenever I want without expecting anything from me or trying to escape.

The mate bond should be working but once we get into the our magic plane and outside of this little world I've created for Opal her stubborn and crazy personality comes out. I still don't know why the hell she's so rebellious. She's fae for god sakes. If I'd have known how difficult she would be I might have reconsidered, but I don't have much choice. We need her.

We don't have much time left either... we really thought we would have had her by now and had plenty of time to train her but time after time she leaves me. Either she gets too bored sitting around the house, gets mad about my infidelity or gets mad that I won't love her or pay any attention to her once she loves me.

So. Fucking. Annoying.

My wife and I need this to work or my entire kingdom might be screwed, especially if Evangeline finds out who she really is or if her family finally finds her. I know they're close and without Evangeline's support we'll never be able to hold them off.

While they're fae, they're not ones you want to mess with when it comes to family. They always had Evangeline locked up as a child, kept from normal civilization and I think I'm starting to figure out why...

When I kept her in her room, this time around it took her much longer to finally figure out about my wife and try and leave. This time she had a lot more time for her powers to begin to develop and return to her.

She had control over all of the elements and wreaked havoc on our hundred year old hall that was supposedly indestructible. I would not want to see a tantrum from that girl when she was a child..

I shivered a little just thinking about the possible damage.

She was also able to control and steal all of our dragons, they were completely loyal to her and if it came down to it, I'm almost certain that they would choose her over us. Even Ice, our best trained dragon nearly fell for her spell but thankfully still dropped her off at Halo's house when I threatened her children.

It was a really close one... If any of the other fae saw her or figured out who she was we would be screwed, especially if she's flying around on a dragon...

Anyways, step two she will begin to work on me with Rob, aka Dr. Shawl.

Step three Jake, her supposed boyfriend will break her heart, this time not by cheating since that made my infidelity seem much worse in the end.

We'll probably reintroduce Kate as someone to help Evangeline through the pain of the breakup but the goal is for her to come to me for comfort.

Step four we make Dylan and Kate weirdly overprotective and trying to keep her from me so that we can convince her that they were the ones that kidnapped her and I'll be her savior. This will also ensure that she never tries to return here and blow our cover.

Last step is she falls completely and utterly in love with me, to the point where she is happy to just be my little side chick at home as long as she can be with me.

I know this time it will work. It has to work. If it doesn't, we're going to have to use a new experimental drug to strip away her will, the only problem is that we're not sure how much power we'll strip away with it. It is completely untested and can have all kinds of side effects. She could turn into a useless potato that just sits around and stares at walls and all our work would go flying out the window.

This is our last chance, it has to work...

The actors I hired are getting pretty sick of this as well., especially Jake since I made him a good boyfriend this time. I've started having some resistance and attitude which might become a serious problem if left unchecked, but I don't have time to hire anyone new so I can't fire them.

They're becoming careless and already its becoming annoyingly obvious that everyone's watching her. I stripped away her beauty to help lower her self esteem so that she'll let herself be controlled by me, but all this attention is not going to help.

URGH I have to stop thinking about this.

It will all work out.

It has to.

I mean what kind of girl doesn't like this romantic sappy shit?

She'll think she saved me and then think I saved her. I'll be all mysterious and this way I don't have to have actual long conversations with her and when she's away from the hospital I can go and check on my wife and take care of our kingdom.

She has no expectations for me to be a perfect gentlemen and I never have to make excuses for why I can't see her.

Like I said, we've thought of everything.

What could possible go wrong?
