I turned to King with a questioning gaze.
"This isn't your room." I stated.
He looked taken aback for a second before nodding. "Very smart..." He muttered.
I crossed my arms and gave him a face that said 'you better start talking' and he sighed.
"We're not sharing a room."
I nodded. I knew that already.
"Why?"
"Its complicated."
"This is a temporary thing right?"
King stared at the ground, shuffling his feet a little. This is the first time I've ever seen him act nervous.
"No, it isn't. You won't be able to stay in my room."
"Why not?"
"I'll tell you when you need to know, for now just get settled, someone is coming here for you to get measured so we can get you some nice clothes."
"King, tell me now." I said, to which he looked around nervously.
"Oh look, the dress maker's here. Well, I'll leave you to it!" He said and quickly made his exit.
"KING! GET BACK HERE NOW!" I yelled but it was too late. Oh, I'll figure it out, you can trust me on that.
I huffed in annoyance then turned my attention to the nervous looking woman that just entered. I smiled kindly.
"Hi, I'm Opal." I said smiling as I approached her.
She was staring at the floor nervously but slowly lifted her eyes to look into mine for a second. As soon as she did she returned her gaze to the floor. Well, this is not okay.
"Hey," I said, "Look at me."
She hesitantly lifted her eyes, switching between the floor and me.
I kept my reassuring smile, "Its just me and you, no need to look at the ground or any of that. We're friends now, okay?"
"But, my Lady-" she tried but I cut her off.
"No, no, none of that, you will call me Opal and you will look in my eyes like my equal because that is what you are. Okay?"
"Yes, my la- Opal."
I gave her a large smile as she stood up straighter, still seeming nervous but a little more confident. It looks like she's a dragon, probably just a weaker one which is a rare thing for their kind.
We walked over to the middle of the room where she begun measuring me, noting down my numbers in her little notebook. She looked sweet with her black hair tied up into a messy bun resting atop her head.
"What's your name?"
"Kiara, my lay-Opal."
"How long have you worked for the royal family, Kiara?"
She smiled, seeming to relax a little.
"About 3 years now, it is the only job I could find since I'm not much of a warrior, but it pays well and I love making dresses for people, bringing out their colors and style to make them look their best. I just love seeing the transformation! I also do makeup and hair, its safe to say that I'm always busy." She started, telling me all about her life.
It was nice talking to Kiara, she was really down to earth and sweet, especially for a dragon.
"Do you have a husband?"
"Not yet." She sighed, "I'm waiting to find my mate, I hope I find him soon." She said, looking off into the distance.
"What about you?" She asked while cleaning up her supplies, getting ready to go.
"Oh, Prince King is my mate." I responded proudly as we made our way towards the door.
A look of shock and then... pity? lit up her face.
"What?" I asked.
"Oh, nothing!" She exclaimed but I could tell that she was lying.
"I'll go get those dresses made, goodbye Opal!" she said quickly before making a hasty exit.
Another weird reaction. I'm already getting sick of this and I've only been here for about an hour! Apparently I'm not naturally a patient person! URGH! This is so annoying. I need to figure this out!
I went to open the door Kiara just went through to find it locked. What the?
I pulled harder, twisting the knob in all directions to make sure but it was, it was locked. It was probably one of those enchanted doors that only people that were authorized could open.
Shoot!!
There's no way I'm going to just sit around here all day! No way Jose!!
I gave the door a good kick but it barely budged. STUPID ENCHANTED DOORS!
I looked to the window and luckily it wasn't locked. Perfect! Now I just have to scale down the walls of this giant castle and I'll be good!
Just as I was planning my route I heard the door to the room open. I turned around quickly to see Rob making his way in the room, quickly shutting the door behind him. Shoot!!
"Rob!" I exclaimed, making my way over to him, leaping onto him in a big bear hug.
"Thank God you're here! I'm dying of boredom! You have to let me out!" I exclaimed, leaping off him and around to the door excitedly.
"No can do kiddo, strict orders from Prince King to not let you out."
"WHAT! NO! He'll never have to know! I won't tell him!!"
"I came up here to bring you up your food." He said, quickly revealing a platter I didn't realize he was holding.
"I was told to sit here and make sure you eat the entire thing." He said, placing it on the little table, taking a seat across from it.
I huffed and sat down staring angrily at the plate.
"If I eat it all will you take me outside?"
"I'm sorry I can't"
"Then I'm not eating." I said stubbornly, crossing my arms and leaning back in my chair.
Rob sighed, rubbing his face, "I thought fae were supposed to be easy going and well, push-overs! You're strangely stubborn." Â He complained.
I shrugged, not wavering.
He sighed, "Fine, if you eat it all I will take you out."
"YES THANK Y-"
"Tomorrow."
I groaned, "NO!! I can't stay in here for that long! I'll go crazy!!!"
He shrugged, "Sorry kiddo, its tomorrow or nothing."
I sighed dramatically before digging in.
"Fine." I mumbled angrily.
"You're not like most fae, are you?"
I thought for a second before responding, "Nope, don't think so."
He nodded while I forced down the food, nice and slow just for revenge, and because I didn't want to be alone and I knew as soon as I finished he would leave. He had better things to do than be stuck in here with me.
Once I finally finished the last strawberry he stood up quickly, swiping my plate and with a quick hug he was out the door.
Great, now what am I supposed to do?
I'm a fae. What do fae do... What have I been missing out on for the past years? I thought after jumping around from pieces or furniture, trying not to go crazy. I was sitting on the middle of the table in the living room when it came to me.
MAGIC!!
How the hell it took so long for it to come to me I'll never knew but I could practice my magic!
I sat up excitedly, extending my hands and closing my eyes.
Okay, I'll start with something easy.
I closed my hands together and when I reopened them I had a single yellow daisy growing from my palm.
Fae powers revolve around the elements. You can be a fire fae, water fae, wind fae or a fae of the earth. Based on the flower I just grew, I guess I'm a fae of the earth.
I giggled excitedly as I weaved it into my hair before creating an entire bouquet which I placed in the crown braid I made making it seem like I had a crown of flowers.
Okay, a little harder. Come on Opal, you've got this!
I extended my hands and closed my eyes. I imagined the room and imagined different plants and flowers sprouting everywhere, giving it a beautiful jungle look that wasn't too wild but added a sense of wilderness to the room.
When I reopened my eyes I gasped in happiness, giggling to myself.
It was perfect. There were vines with beautiful flowers weaving around the posts and columns, there were trees growing up the walls a little and over my head. Ones that would never lose their leaves, therefore evading the possibility of a mess. The entire room just looked beautiful and magical.
Much better.
By the time I was finished decorating every inch of the room it was dark outside. I'd honestly had such a long day and was a little relieved to finally get to go to sleep. I curled up into the giant, extremely comfortable and luscious bed before finally dozing off, the same person flashing through my thoughts as always.
