Getting back into therapy wasn't too difficult once I accepted I needed help. I still. think they were overreacting with the whole Thirty-Two thing, but I do have a problem with depression and anorexia...
I went through this a lot, as well as anxiety after my parents died. We were all in a car crash together and I was the only one to survive.
I got hurt really badly and even died for a couple minutes but because of my youth I had amazing resilience and managed to bounce back. I wasn't left with any long-term problems but I spent months in therapy learning how to walk again.
The worst part is that I somehow lost all my memories. I have no recollection of anything before the accident. I was still able to talk and complete basic human tasks but I can't remember anything about my parents, I didn't even recognize my grandma when she came to pick me up...
I know I loved them and I know I miss them, but I don't know what I miss.
I got extreme anxiety every time I went in the car and took losing my memories really badly. It looks like my ability to make new long-term and short-term is perfectly fine, I just wish I could remember my parents, now I'll never have a chance to know them.
They gave me exercises to help with my depression and I had a lot of therapy every day now. I'm eating again and am back to a healthy weight again.
I've been working on myself for about 2 months now and I've made a crazy amount of progress. I don't know why I'm still locked up though... I'm not going to hurt myself or anyone else, I've been eating and my personality has returned but they keep me in here.
I've been asking when I can leave for weeks now and they always just answer, "It should be soon, just keep up the great work!"
Dr. Pat walked in again, same time as every day. She sat on her chair outside my cell and I sat against the wall facing her.
She went over the same questions as every day, asking me how I'm doing, making sure I've been eating, have I been doing my exercises etc...
I'm pretty much just dying of boredom at this point. These people need to let me out soon or I'll go crazy again for a completely different reason then I'll never leave.
I'm not even on anti-depressants anymore, I feel great, I'm not longer at any risk!
No, I'm not crazy. They always tell me I'm not crazy, I just needed a little help becoming myself again.
"Well, everything looks perfect, as usual. I think you're my favorite patient now."
"Dr. Pat, please, when are you guys going to let me out? I'm sorry I keep asking but I don't understand why you're keeping me in here!" I exclaim in frustration. I feel a little bad for talking to her like that...
"Everything looks good, you should be getting out of here soon, just keep up the good work!" She exclaimed with a smile before leaving.
Oh my god.
Its honestly starting to get really creepy...
The day went by and night rolled around, but instead of falling asleep I stayed up. I don't know why but something in me told me that I couldn't sleep right now. I started pacing the cell, ready for something, but I didn't know what.
Suddenly I heard some sounds outside, they were quiet, barely noticeable but everything else was so silent I could make out quiet footsteps that got gradually louder. Someone was coming for me.
Maybe it was Dylan or Kate! Maybe they were finally here to take me home! Maybe they finally convinced someone to let me out! I knew they'd come through for me. It took them a really long time though.
The door popped open really softly to reveal...
Dr. Shawl?
Works for me!
I leapt at him, pulling him into a big bear hug filled with relief.
He seemed taken off guard for a second but quickly reciprocated before putting me down.
"Come on, we don't have much time."
"What do you mean much time?"
Was he sneaking me out? Holy shit. Can I do this? I don't break rules... Ever. I know, I'm a goody two shoes but I just can't, its like my body physically won't let me.
"I don't know if I can do this..."
Dr. Shawl huffed an picked me up, throwing me gently over his shoulder.
"We don't have time for this, I'll explain everything later, just stay quiet." He huffed and began running down the halls, somehow his huge form managing to be super agile and gentle, almost silent.
He stopped hiding behind a wall as a couple security guards passed by, quickly returning to his route.
Within a couple minutes we were outside and I was being placed into a van.
"Not gonna lie Rob, you're giving off some real creepy vibes right now." I said as he climbed into the drivers seat while I was in the passenger seat.
"Sorry bout this Opal, you'll understand soon."
"Where are you taking me?" I asked, still a little wary but honestly just relieved to be out of that freaking cell.
Next thing I knew there was a car chasing us with, wait a second. Why are Dylan and Kate chasing us in a car?
Rob sped up, the creepy van almost tipping over the turn, making me grab onto the handle over the car and my seatbelt for dear life.
"Rob, its Dylan! Why are we running from Dylan, he's my best friend!!" I yelled, getting more and more freaked out by the situation.
Rob just ignored me, somehow managing to lose Dylan and Kate.
"Rob, you're really starting to freak me out now."
"I'm sorry Opal, we're almost there, just hang tight. You just need to trust me a little longer and we'll be safe. "
I looked out the window. We were driving WAY to fast to be able to jump out of the window. I should get back to the hospital, they probably didn't let me go for a reason, I shouldn't have broken the rules. I feel so bad. Those doctors were only trying to help me but here I am, running away.
After a few minutes more minutes of driving full speed Rob smiles and turns to me a little.
"We did it, we made it."
"Made it where?" I asked, looking around confused. We were still going full speed and there was nothing in sight.
Next thing I knew we were getting to the end of the road. It just stopped, leading to a grass field.
"Hey Rob, you might wanna slow down, the road's about to end."
"You might wanna close your eyes princess." He smiled, freaking me out even more.
"Wh-why? I think I'll keep them open."
He nodded, "Don't say I didn't warn ya, prepare yourself."
Next thing I knew we were flying off the road onto the grass, driving down a little hill that lid to...
A CLIFF. Theres a cliff. We're driving towards a cliff. If he doesn't turn soon we'll be DRIvING oFF A CLIFF!
"Rob, slow down." I tried to say calmly as my heart almost beat out of my chest.
He didn't slow down even the tiniest bit, he still had a small smile on his face as our speed increased and we drove right towards the cliff.
There were a couple cars behind us trying to catch up to us. I automatically recognized Dylan and Kate's car, next to them was Jack in his cop car, leading the chase.
What. the. actual. hell. is. going. on.
I looked to Rob, panicking further.
I'm going to have to jump out the window. Its the only way, I'll die if he drives off the cliff with me in it.
I tried to descend the window but it was on child lock.
"Just relax Opal, it will all be over soon."
HE'S COMITTING SUICIDE WITH ME IN THE CAR. I'M TOO YOUNG TO DIE, I NEVER EVEN GOT TO SEE 32 AGAIN! I NEVER GOT TO HOLD HIM AGIAN. JUST ONE MORE TIME.
I'll never get to eat pancakes with Kate in the mornings again, I won't be able to greet my favorite valet driver every morning with a coffee, I won't be able to go out with Dylan and hear all about all the girls he picks up again. I spent the last months of my life extremely depressed, not able to enjoy anything then the rest in a cell, not able to enjoy anything.
This can't be the end. It just can't be.
This is why I hate cars. I always knew I would die in one. They aren't safe, they're just giant death machines!
We were getting really close to the cliff now and I knew this was the end.
The other cars were forced to slam their brakes to not go off the cliff with us, I could see their faces full of panic as we just went faster.
A single tear slid down my face as I relaxed in my seat, accepting the reality that this was the end. Acceptance flows through me as I gazed off to the cliff that was too close. There was no hope now, no way in hell we didn't fall off the cliff and die.
Dr. Shawl looked at me, giving me what seemed like a reassuring smile.
"Don't cry, please just relax, you'll understand everything soon, its almost over." He said in the gentle voice I had learned to trust.
I took a deep breath as he turned back to the road and we went flying over the cliff.
We flew for a couple of seconds from the extreme speed before we started to fell.
We fell and fell and fell.
Down and down.
I finally just closed my eyes.
At least I died a quick death.
