Chapter 493

The Guardian's Return by Old Pumpkin603 words~4 min read

The Spencers' past flashed in Jared's mind. The Spencers used to be untouchable until Ethan came along.

Whether it was Marcus or the other families in Breeze City, they had proven one thing with their lives-not to provoke Ethan Rivers!

Jared took a deep breath, glaring at Arnold with anger and reluctance. "We're leaving."

Then, he turned to leave.

His subordinates considered fleeing the moment they heard Ethan's name. If Jared had not been there, they might have already run. As soon as they were given the order to withdraw, they quickly left. Their cars swiftly drove away, returning silence to the village.

Arnold watched the scene happen in a daze, his expression filled with confusion and disbelief. He could not understand why Jared left with his team when they heard that he was one of Ethan's men. They had been clearly furious and reluctant to leave.

After Jared left, the villagers looked at Arnold. The chief asked in concern, "They're gone now. Do you need to go to the town clinic?"

Arnold shook his head. He was not severely injured, and he had more important matters to attend to. He needed to report this incident.

"Then, we'll prepare a place for you to rest. We'll call the doctor to check up on you later."

The villagers were very kind and prepared a room for Arnold, then called for the doctor to tend to him.

Arnold entered the room and took out his phone to contact Hill City. "We were ambushed. I'm the only survivor. The rest of my team was..."

In Hill City, everyone who heard that the team was ambushed and suffered severe losses was in shock.

Nolan frowned. He was not surprised but displeased. Why was Arnold still alive? He had clearly ordered Jared to kill them all!

However, he could not question Jared now, so he simply asked Arnold, "What happened?"

Arnold told him everything that happened. "was pursued and stumbled upon a village. For some reason, the villagers risked their lives for me When the people pursuing me heard Ethan Rivers' name, they left reluctantly."

Nolan was struck by a realization and understood why Jared did not kill Arnold-

he was afraid of involving Ethan.

The displeasure in Nolan's heart faded and was replaced with contemplation. If he were the one pursuing Arnold, and the latter said he knew Ethan, Nolan would also not dare to act recklessly.

It was Ethan Rivers they were talking about! Even Nolan's father had to obediently defer to him.

Although Ethan was supposedly locked up on Drakthorn Ridge, anyone who had opposed him before knew that that was not enough to contain him at all.

Nolan calmed himself down and said, "Rest well. We'll send a second team to assist you shortly."

After the call, there was a knock at the door.

"Come in." Arnold put the receiver down.

A doctor entered with the translator. He handed a bottle of isopropyl alcohol to Arnold and said, "This should be of help."

Arnold thanked them, took the bottle, and began disinfecting his wounds.

The doctor stood to the side, waiting, while the translator asked Arnold the question that the whole village wanted to ask, "Has Ethan been well lately?"

Arnold was stunned. Ethan was a criminal who had been captured. How would he be doing well? He might even be facing torture now.

Arnold wanted to tell the truth, but when he saw their faces filled with hope, his words got stuck in his throat.

"Why do you care so much about Ethan?" He changed his question. "What incentive did he give you?"
