Zaâmiyahâs POV
I hadnât heard from Zaire in days, and though I told myself it was a good thing, deep down, I was restless. His presence still haunted me, his words still echoed in my mind. The thought of stepping into his world scared me, but I couldnât deny the pull.
The evening air felt heavier than usual as I walked through the streets of my neighborhood, the hustle and bustle of people moving around me. But there was a dissonance in my mind, a sense that something was shifting.
Mama and Jayden were inside, settling into their usual routine. But I couldnât shake the feeling that somethingâor someoneâwas calling me.
I was halfway down the street when I saw the black SUV again. My heart skipped a beat as I realized it was parked near the corner.
âMiyah!â a voice called, snapping me out of my thoughts. It was Tasha, her face lighting up when she saw me. âWhere yuh been? Mi swear, yuh been disappearing lately.â
âIâve just been busy,â I said, forcing a smile.
âBusy with what?â she asked, raising an eyebrow.
I didnât answer, instead looking over my shoulder at the SUV. The window rolled down slightly, and I caught a glimpse of the driverâs faceâCarter.
Before I could think, the door of the SUV opened, and there he was. Zaire.
His eyes met mine, and for a moment, everything else faded away.
Tasha noticed the change in my expression. âWho dat?â she asked, her curiosity piqued.
âItâs nothing,â I said, shaking my head. But even I didnât believe the words coming out of my mouth.
Zaire walked toward me, his presence commanding yet strangely calm. âZaâmiyah,â he said, his voice smooth as velvet. âI need to talk to you.â
I glanced at Tasha, who looked between us with suspicion. âIâll be right back,â I muttered, before walking toward him.

Zaireâs POV
The moment I stepped out of the SUV, I could feel her tension, her hesitation. But she didnât pull away.
I had been waiting for this moment, but I didnât expect the mixture of confusion and curiosity that played across her face.
âYuh said yuh wanted to talk,â she said, crossing her arms. âSo talk.â
I studied her, taking in the way she stood, her confidence hiding the storm of thoughts behind her eyes. âI know this ainât easy, Zaâmiyah. But yuh donât have to be afraid of me.â
âAfraid?â she repeated, scoffing. âMi donât even know yuh. Yuh just show up outta nowhere and expect me to trust yuh?â
She had every right to be skeptical. I didnât expect her to trust me right away, but the tension in her voice made something inside me shift.
âYuh donât have to trust me,â I said. âBut yuh should at least know what yuh getting into.â
Her eyes narrowed. âAnd what exactly am I getting into?â
I stepped closer, lowering my voice. âA chance. A chance to stop struggling, a chance to take control of your life. But it comes with a price. Everything in this world does.â
She didnât answer at first, just looked at me like she was trying to decipher whether I was lying or telling the truth.
I didnât want to force her into anything, but I wasnât going to let her walk away either.
âI donât want to see you in the same position in five years, Zaâmiyah,â I said, my tone serious. âYou deserve more than this.â
Her face softened for a second before hardening again. âYuh think this is about money? Yuh think mi just need yuh to buy mi outta this life?â
I shook my head. âNo. But I know what it feels like to want something better. And Iâm offering you that. The question is, are you willing to take it?â
She didnât answer immediately, but I could see the internal battle playing out behind her eyes.

Zaâmiyahâs POV
I could feel his words sinking in, tugging at something inside me that I hadnât fully acknowledged. The idea of leaving behind my struggles, the endless grind of trying to surviveâit was tempting.
But was it worth it? Could I trust him?
âYou think just because mi got mi head above water, yuh can come in here and offer mi something better?â I asked, my voice low. âMi ainât like the others yuh deal with, Zaire.â
He stepped closer, and I could feel the weight of his gaze. âYuh ainât like the others. Thatâs why Iâm offering this to you. You donât have to live like this, Zaâmiyah.â
I took a deep breath, stepping back slightly. âI have to think about it.â
He nodded, his expression unreadable. âIâll give you time. But know thisâyouâre running out of options. The world wonât wait for you to decide.â
Before I could respond, he turned and walked back to the SUV. Carter was already waiting, the engine rumbling as Zaire got inside.
I stood there for a long time, watching the SUV disappear into the distance.

Zaireâs POV
As I watched her walk away, I knew that the game was on.
She was strong, but I could see the uncertainty in her eyes. I knew how hard it was to make a choice like that, especially when the stakes were so high. But I couldnât let her slip away.
I had to make her see that the life I was offering wasnât just about power and moneyâit was about survival.
And for her to survive, she would have to step into my world.
