Miyahâs POV
The grand dining room in Kateâs mansion was as intimidating as ever. A crystal chandelier hung overhead, casting a soft glow on the polished table set with silverware so fancy I didnât even know what half of it was for.
Zaire held my hand tightly as we walked in, his grip reassuring me that no matter what happened tonight, he had my back. Ashley, Zoey, Giovanni, and Malik trailed behind us, their presence a silent promise of support.
Then I saw her.
Chloe.
She sat at the far end of the table, her hair perfectly styled, a designer dress clinging to her petite frame. She looked like sheâd stepped straight out of a fashion magazine. Kateâs eyes lit up when she saw her, and I immediately knew this wasnât just a coincidence.
âMiyah,â Kate greeted me with a tight smile. âYou made it.â
âOf course,â I replied, matching her energy. âThanks for inviting me.â
She raised an eyebrow, her tone sharp. âItâs important for us to... blend as a family.â
Zaireâs jaw tightened, but I placed a hand on his arm, silently asking him to let it go.
We all took our seats, and as expected, I was placed directly across from Chloe.
âZaire,â Kate began, her voice dripping with fake warmth, âIâm so glad youâre here tonight. You remember Chloe, donât you?â
Zaire looked up from his plate, his tone flat. âVaguely.â
Chloeâs laugh was soft and melodic, like she was trying too hard. âCome on, Zaire. We were kids, but Iâm sure you remember more than that.â
I clenched my fork, feeling the heat rise to my face.
âSo, Chloe,â I said, forcing a smile. âWhat do you do?â
She looked at me, her expression a mix of pity and condescension. âI work in fashion marketing. Itâs a demanding field, but I love it. And you?â
âI run my own business,â I replied, keeping my tone calm.
âOh, really? How... impressive,â she said, her voice laced with sarcasm.
Before I could respond, Kate cut in. âChloeâs family is very well-connected. Sheâs worked with some of the biggest names in the industry.â
âThatâs nice,â I said, keeping my voice steady. âConnections are important, especially when you need help getting ahead.â
The room went quiet, Chloeâs face falling slightly as she realized the jab. Ashley and Zoey smirked, clearly enjoying the tension.

Zaireâs POV
I could see my motherâs plan unfolding in front of me, but it wasnât working. If anything, Miyah was handling herself better than I expected. She was composed, confident, and sharp.
But Kate wasnât done.
âMiyah,â my mother said, her voice too sweet to be genuine, âit must be hard adjusting to our world. I imagine things are very... different for you.â
Miyah set down her glass, her eyes locking on my mother. âYouâre right. Itâs different. But Iâm a quick learner. And honestly, I think Iâve adjusted quite well.â
Kate smiled tightly, clearly annoyed that Miyah wasnât taking the bait.
âZaire,â Chloe chimed in, leaning forward slightly. âDo you remember that summer in the Hamptons? We had so much fun.â
âNo,â I said bluntly, taking a sip of my drink.
Ashley stifled a laugh, and I could see Miyah fighting a smile.
My motherâs expression darkened, but she pressed on. âWell, Chloe and her family will be in town for a while. Iâm sure the two of you could catch up.â
I set my glass down, my patience wearing thin. âMum, if youâre trying to set me up with Chloe, just say that.â
The table went silent.
âZaire,â Kate said, her voice tight. âThatâs not what Iâm doing.â
âIt sure feels like it,â I shot back. âAnd Iâm telling you nowâitâs not happening. Iâm with Miyah. End of story.â

Miyahâs POV
Kateâs face turned red, but I wasnât about to let her play the victim.
âWith all due respect, Mrs. Sinclair,â I said, my voice calm but firm, âI donât need your approval. I love Zaire, and he loves me. If you canât accept that, then thatâs on you. But I wonât let you disrespect me or our relationship.â
The room was dead silent.
Kate opened her mouth to respond, but Zaire cut her off.
âMum, this is your last warning,â he said, his tone cold. âIf you keep this up, Iâll have no choice but to cut you off. I wonât let you treat Miyah like this.â
Kateâs eyes widened, clearly shocked that Zaire was serious.
âYou donât mean that,â she said, her voice wavering.
âI do,â Zaire replied. âI love you, but I wonât let you come between me and Miyah. If you canât respect her, then you canât be a part of my life.â
Kate sat back, stunned into silence.
Ashley and Zoey exchanged satisfied looks, and I felt a wave of relief wash over me. For the first time, I felt like Zaire and I were truly a team.
