Chapter 95: Reassessments
Logan breathed the night air in deeply. He wanted to talk to Serena about being mates. Santino had
made a lot of sense to him, but he didnât want to want to make a big deal out of it. Heâd already told
Serena that he was staying with Holly to raise his child with her
He looked inside the house again and Serena and the twins were gone. She was probably putting them
to bed. She hadnât asked if he wanted to say âgoodnight! It was probably too soon to allow him to get
too comfortable in a fatherly position with them.
The living room sliding door opened and Alpha Thomas stuck his head out. âWe made up the guest
room for you,â he said. âTomorrow we should leave early, but it is too late to drive back tonight.â âThank
you,â Logan said with a nod. âCharlotte and I are heading to bed,â he added. âHelp yourself to anything
in the kitchen.â Logan nodded. âGreat,â he said. Thomas retreated back inside. Logan followed into the
living room. He took a look around the kitchen, getting himself a glass of water. He thought he should
eat something, but he really couldnât tell whether or not he was hungry! Too much had happened that
day. âOh, I didnât know you were still down here,â Serenaâs voice said from behind him. Logan turned
and smiled at her. âWe donât have to run in separate directions every time we see each other,â he said.
âNo, we donât,â she agreed. âI thoughtâ¦â Logan trailed off. Serena raised an eyebrow at him. âThought
what?â she asked. âI thought you would have let me say goodnight to them,â he said. Serena sighed,
crossing her arms. âLogan, you can be as involved as you want, but Iâm not going to ask you to be
involved,â she said. âIf you see me getting ready to put them to bed, speak up. I canât come to you and
ask your permission every time I do something with them.â Logan sighed. Serena had a point. When
they were back at Night Sky, heâd be in his own house and it wasnât like she could call him every night
to ask if he wanted to help tuck the twins in. âFair enough,â he said. âCan we talk about the other
thing?â he asked. Serena walked past and went to the refrigerator. She poured herself a glass of
lemonade and offered some to Logan too. He nodded in thanks.
Chapter 95: Reassessments
âWhat other thing?â she asked, glancing at him over the rim of her glass. Logan smiled at her. âThe part
about us being mates,â he said. Serena shrugged. âI donât know what to say about that,â she admitted.
âYouâve already said you are going to stay with Holly.â âI know,â Logan said with a nod. He finished his
lemonade and leaned back against the counter. He kept his posture open, trying not to appear hostile
or mad. Serena was not avoiding him or acting like he would pounce on her at any minute, and he
wanted to make sure she would feel comfortable around him. âDid you have anything you wanted to
say about it?â she asked conversationally. Logan shrugged. âIt just seems like there should be a
conversation about it,â he said. âI imagine it will continue to affect us.â âDo you think the reason we fight
and keep doing extreme things for each other is because of that?â she asked. âIt could be,â Logan said.
âSantino says it is passion and we shouldnât ignore it.â Serena snorted. âYea, of course, he did,â she
said, shaking her head and laughing. âAre you going to tell Holly?â âI probably should,â he said,
chewing the inside of his cheek. âOtherwise, she might thing something else is going on, like us having
an affair.â Serena snorted. âShe certainly knows how to get jealous,â she said. âDo you think it would be
any better for her to know the truth?â Logan sighed. Heâd been wondering that too. Logan knew Holly
could get jealous. He also knew that Holly thought she was his mate. It would be devastating for her to
learn that they werenât.
âIt would be better for her to know,â he said. âI meanâ¦maybe not until after the baby is born. When
things are less volatile.â âYea,â Serena said, putting her empty lemonade glass in the sink. âLogan, I
donât know what your feelings are for Holly, and I donât know what my brother filled your head with, but
us being mates doesnât mean we have to be together or canât be with anyone else.â âI know that,â he
said. âI know many couples that arenât with their mate.â âBut it might be worth clearing the air a little,â
she added. Logan nodded. âI think so,â he agreed. âI mean, I donât want you to think that I am going to
get passionately angry at you any time my temper bubbles over.â He smirked, to make his statement
more humorous. Serena nodded. âIâll believe that when it happens,â she said with a smile. At least she
was joking
Chapter 95: Reassessments around with him again. âThere is definitely something between us,â Logan
admitted finally. He hadnât wanted to really think about what Santino said, about reassessing his
feelings for Holly and Serena. He was trying not to think about it. He wanted to know what Serena was
thinking.
âThatâs a given,â she said. âThatâs part of the bond. It is up to us what we want to do with it.â
âWhat do you want to do with it?â Logan asked. Serena chewed at her lower lip, tapping her foot on the
floor. âBe friends?â she asked. Logan smiled. âWe could be friends,â he said. âIt would make co-
parenting a lot easier.â Serena eyed him suspiciously. âCo-parenting,â she muttered. âIs that what we
are doing?â âIâd like to think it is,â Logan said. Serena shrugged. âYou have to admit to being a parent
before you can be a co-parent,â she pointed out. Her words werenât harsh or argumentative. âPerhaps,â
Logan said with a chuckle. They lapsed into easy silence for a moment. The rest of the house was
almost completely dark. Everyone was asleep. It was quiet around them, not just between them.
Serena was no longer tapping her foot either. She was looking at him, though. Logan let her eyes
wander over him. He liked the way it warmed his skin. It was like the bond between them had all his
senses heightened when he was around her. âSerena, Iâd like to be friends,â Logan said. âI think it
would be easier on the twins, and we are bonded by the mate bond, but those arenât the only reasons.â
âNo?â she asked, arching an eyebrow at him. âNo,â he said. âI think youâre an interesting person and Iâd
like to know more of you. Even if it is only ever as friends. I donât know if I can stay away from you
anymore, knowing what I know now.â âYea, I know what you mean,â she said with a nod and a
humorless smile. âI never wanted to stay away from you, not really. I just wanted us to beâ¦cordial.â
Logan
chuckled.
âCordial?â he asked. He sighed, shaking his head. Logan wasnât sure that was what he wanted when
he said he wanted to be friends. Serena was so much more than a friend, or she should be. She was
his mate! âIâve got to get to sleep,â Serena said. âLong drive tomorrow morning.â âYea, Iâll head up
soon,â Logan said. Serena nodded and left Logan alone in the kitchen. He watched her go.
Alone, he had no choice but to think about his feelings for Serena and Holly. Ever since Serena had
come to Night Sky, things with Holly had seemed tense. Heâd told himself it was because Holly was
being jealous, told himself it was because he had bonded with the kids and it was a new kind of
relationship for him, but now he had to face the fact that it could have been because of Serenaâs very
presence.
Heâd always been interested in her, for reasons he hadnât understood until the truth finally came out.
Now he wasnât sure if he could look at Holly as a life partner or a mother of his child. He had no
problem seeing Serena that way, though.
Sighing to himself, Logan turned out the lights in the kitchen and found his way to the guest bedroom.
He heard Olivia and Oliver whispering to each other in the room beside his.
Quietly, Logan peaked into their room, keeping himself in the shadows enough so that they wouldnât
see him. They were giggling quietly and making funny hand symbols at each other.
It brought a smile to Loganâs face. Those were his kids! He didnât want any other children. Logan knew
that now, and he felt even more confused about the situation he was in with Holly. Everything he had to
tell her was going to be a difficult conversation. He hoped she was in a good mood!
