Chapter CHAPTER TEN LESLIEâS POV My shock at Travisâ claim is evident, in the way my jaw slacks and the way eyes go beyond their normal size. I stare at him and he in turn continues to stare at the card like he is just seeing it for the first time. Perhaps, the realization that he is familiar with the it belongs to is the reason he is now looking at the card in a new light.
I also discovered that besides the color of the card, I know nothing else because I havenât properly looked at it since my grandmotherâs death. The shock and the preparation for funeral gave me no time to do so. So I wait for Travis to clear up the air about what he knows about the navy blue card. âDid you say your grandmother gave this to you?â Seconds pass before Travis finally hands the card back to me. I take it in both hands, nodding absentmindedly at Travis while I take a proper overdue look at the card.
I discover there isnât much to look at anyway, disappointed by the single corporate logo intricately designed on both sides. The logo isnât even remotely familiar and I wonder why grandmother would give me a card without a phone number or a house address to make it easy for the owner to be found.
I couldnât have found this person on my own.
I look at Travis again, âDid you also say this belongs to your mentor?â
âHe was first my teacher. A senior lecturer at the college where I graduated. He took a liking to me after college and took me in, offering to mentor me in business.â Travisâ voice booms with deep respect for the owner this mentor he speaks of. I look down at the card again and I can just tell the kind of power wields. My curiosity peaks and questions swarm my mind. Is it really a coincidence that Travis happens to know who my grandmother asked me to look for? How in the world does my grandmother know him anyway âI want to know too.â I didnât realize I spoke my thoughts out loud until Travis replied with and then he continued, pointing at the card in my hands, âThat card is only given to close associates and there are then only a few of them out there. I have one myself too if your grandmother really gave that to you, there is more to this than it being a coincidence.â
Travisâ explanation doesnât do anything to ease the confusion I feel. It only adds to it because I literally grew up with my grandmother and I never saw anyone unusual around her.
I sigh, deeply. I just walked out of marriage that has kept me in chains for too long. Do I really want to deal with looking for a strange man right now?
âI donât know why grandmother gave this to me. How am I supposed to find the owner of the card without a phone number and a house address?â
âIâll take you to him.â Travis announces.
âWait, what?â
He shrugs, âI said Iâll take you to him.â
âWhy? You said he only gives the card to close associates. I am not one, I donât even know him.â
âYou donât have to. That card alone is a pass and it doesnât matter who has it, it means you can meet him. Your grandmother must have given it to you for a reason, donât you wanna know I stare intently at the in my hands. My grandmother never does things without a reason. She didnât me a fortune as a parting gift but a card that must mean a lot to her and I cannot fight the pressing need to find out why. I meet Travis expectant eyes and nod and he smiles gently like he always does.
â7 will take you to him, thatâs a promise but before then, you need to rest well and gather up the energy you have lost.â
I canât help but smile out of gratitude to Travis. His kindness warms my heart in ways that I cannot describe and I wonder what would have become of me if he didnât come to my rescue.
âThank you, Travis.â
âYou know, you have been here for three days and still wonât tell me what really happened. I donât know what is going on Leslie, but if you need me to talk some sense into Kian-â
âNo!â I cut him short before he can speak further, âHe canât , please. Donât tell him anything.
