[1] The sentence here was originally written as ‘dog of a thousand miles territory, cat from a ten thousand miles territory’. It’s probably another form of the Chinese saying ‘dogs remember a thousand miles; cats remember ten thousand miles’. Its meaning is that dogs and cats have very good memory.

[2] The author used the Chinese characters ‘桥豆麻袋’ that were homonyms of the Japanese words ‘cho tto ma tte’, which mean ‘wait a minute’.

[3] It’s the sound of the door opening.

[4] Some Chinese calendars specify things like auspicious or inauspicious days to move into a new place, to marry, to go out, and so on.
