Chapter 68
Anastasiaâs face suddenly turned pale, her feet softened, and she sat down on the chair beside her.
âKid, my kid..â
Anastasia mumbled to herself, at a loss as to why she had that kind of memory.
What was this familiar feeling in her noggin?
Was it her own memory, or a scene sheâd seen somewhere before?
Anastasia was bewildered, fear engulfing her. Before she knew it, a tear slid down her cheek.
âWhatâs up with you? You didnât get a fright, did you?â Alessiaâs husband came over and asked with a twoâhanded prayer gesture, âThanks so much for your help, hope you didnât get a scare?â
Anastasia seemed a little spaced out, Iâm fine.â
She brushed away the tear at the corner of her eye, then realized that Alessia had been whisked away to the delivery room.
âThank you so much, Alessiaâs husband said, all politeness. âYou saved both my wife and child.â
âNo, no, youâre too kind. I didnât do much, just made a phone callâ
Just then, a doctor walked over, âAlessiaâs family needs to go pay.â
âTill go.â Alessiaâs husband told Anastasia, âCould you keep an eye on things here while I go pay?â
Anastasia nodded awkwardly. And like that, she ended up helping out at the hospital.
Lauren called her, âAnastasia, where have you gone off to? Why havenât you come back? Selenaâs upset, sheâs looking for you.â
Anastasia hurriedly replied, âA coworker from the sales department gave birth, Iâm at the hospital. Iâll be back soon, could you cover for me?â
âHurry up then,â Lauren exaggerated, âSelenaâs like an iceberg and Iâm freezing here.â
Anastasia chuckled, âAlright, Iâll be back soon.â
After about an hour of hustle and bustle, Alessia gave birth to a healthy baby boy who was a bit early.
Alessia was in good spirits and was wheeled back to her room with her child.
Anastasia followed them to the room. Seeing the tiny baby asleep on the little bed, her heart melted.
This was the first time sheâd seen such a tiny newborn. She had an indescribable feeling in her heart, a mixture of heartache and bitterness. For some reason, she felt like bursting into tears.
Alessia saw Anastasiaâs work badge and smiled, âAnastasia? From the design department?â
Anastasia shifted her gaze from the baby, âYes, from the Design Department. Itâs my first dayâ
âThank you for today. When my kid grows up a bit, Iâll have him make you his godmother. You saved his lifeâ
Anastasia felt flattered, âMs. Alessia, youâre too kind.â
Alessia asked, âSo, you donât want to be his godmother?â
âNo,â Anastasia actually loved kids. This baby is adorable. Iâd be honored to be his godmother.â
Alessia smiled, âThen itâs settledâ
âOkay, Ms. Alessia.â
Just call me Alessia We donât need to be so formal, just call me Alessia.â
Anastasia laughed, âOkay, Alessiaâ
Alessia was warm and generous, and Anastasia didnât refuse.
Alessia looked at the baby sleeping peacefully beside her, âThis kidâs such a rusher, couldnât wait a bit longer, had to be born early Iâve lost my shot at becoming the Sales Department head again.â
Although she was complaining, her tone and gaze were full of love for her child.
Alessia had been working at the company for ten years, finally had the chance to be promoted to head, but because of her childâs early birth, she might lose the opportunity to other competitors.
Alessiaâs husband walked in, âAs long as you and the baby are safe, thatâs all that matters. If youâre tired, quit and come home. Iâll take care of you both.â
Anastasia found these words familiar. Herman had said something similar in the morning.
A husband providing for his family was seen as a matter of course and a source of pride for men
Alessiaâs husband came from a wellâoff family, they didnât need her paycheck. Alessia was a workaholic and an independent woman, so sheâd kept working even during her pregnancy
Sheâd planned to take maternity leave next month, but the baby decided to come early
