Chapter 393
Penny stepped forward, gripping Pattieâs arm tightly. âSo, youâre living the high life now, huh? Canât even acknowledge me anymore, can you? Youâre such an ungrateful little brat! After all, Iâve done for you.â
Pattieâs arm was throbbing with pain, but she refused to call Penny mom. In her heart, there was only one mother, and that was Anastasia.
Pattie bore the pain in silence. She was very stubborn. Penny, livid, raised her hand to strike Pattie, but Leo intervened, âPenny, stop!â
Leo was a changed man now, far stronger than before.
âLeo, have you lost your mind? Youâre siding with this little brat? You are willing to lose our son over her?â Penny spat venomously, âDonât forget the fortune tellerâs words. Weâve been given a golden opportunity. Take this girl and letâs go.â
The mention of their missing son tipped the scales in Leoâs heart. After all, it was his own son. He was missing for so long, and his fate was unknown.
Leo looked at Pattie, wrestling with his emotions. He crouched down and said, âPattie, can you help us find your little brother?â
âI donât know where he is,â Pattie replied.
Leo pleaded, âIf you come with us, we can find your brother. Heâs so young, Pattie. If he falls into the wrong hands, he could be in danger. Didnât you say you wanted him back? Can you help us find him?â
Pattie pondered for a moment. Her innocent, pure eyes surveyed Penny and Leo, before finally nodding. She trusted Leo, and she wanted to find her brother too.
Penny quickly signaled to Leo. They scooped up Pattie and left.
Salma, busy quarreling with Ashley, was oblivious to Pattieâs departure. By the time she realized, they were long gone. Salma glanced around, not finding Pattie anywhere. Panic set in. âPattie, Pattie, where have you run off to? You canât disappear again.â
She blamed herself. Why had she been arguing with Ashley? She could not even keep an eye on a single child. In her distraction, Pattie had vanished. Salma searched the neighborhood, but to no avail. She quickly dialed Anastasiaâs number.
In an unfinished building.
Penny and Leo brought Pattie to the dilapidated structure. Layna was tied up, and her mouth was taped shut. She was huddled in a corner.
Pattie was shocked to see Layna. âLayna.â She ran towards Layna.

Chapter 393
Layna perked up at the sight of Pattie, desperately trying to signal for help.
Pattie, realizing that it was Leo and Penny who had taken her sister, turned to Leo in fear. âDaddy Leo, why did you take my sister? Why did you bring her here? Please let her go.â
Leo couldnât bear to meet Pattieâs gaze, while Penny sneered, âNone of you are leaving. today.â
She then barked at Leo, âWhat are you waiting for? Get ready.â
After their sonâs disappearance, the couple consulted a fortune teller who told them Pattie, having changed her surname and no longer being part of the Brown family, had taken their sonâs good fortune with her. To get their son back, a life had to be exchanged. They had to take Pattieâs life to reclaim their sonâs, and it had to be done at high noon.
Leo was torn. He couldnât bring himself to do it.
Penny yanked at Leo. âDonât you want our son anymore? If you canât do it, I will. You just stand guard.â
Leo couldnât do it, but he couldnât give up on his son either. The best solution was to let Penny do it. With a last look at Pattie, Leo hardened his heart and walked away.
âDaddy Leo,â Pattie called out, âyou promised to take me to KFC.â
Her words pierced Leoâs heart. He gritted his teeth. His expression was tortured, conflicted. This time, he didnât even have the courage to look back at Pattie. He closed his eyes and left, ruthlessly.
Leo was a superstitious man. He liked Pattie, but compared to his own son, that affection was insignificant.
Seeing Leo leave, Pattie started crying, âDaddy Leo, Daddy Leo.â
âShut up. No oneâs coming, no matter how much you scream,â Penny snarled, walking over to Pattie. âYour life my son. Itâs time to give it back.â
