Chapter 326
Herman instantly felt deflated, slumping onto the couch, grumbling in frustration, âIâm going to block your cousin.â Getting cockblocked was enough to ruffle any
manâs feathers.
Anastasia chuckled and gently stroked Hermanâs face, chiding, âHave you not run out of energy from all the way back from Willowbrook to Riverdale? All you think about is fucking me. Now get out, I have a call to take.â
Herman grumbled a bit more, but obediently left the room.
Anastasia answered the call, âWhatâs up?â
As soon as she finished speaking, Gianna burst into tears on the other end of the line, âAnastasia, Joey is a jerk! Iâve tried everything, even tried to find some dirt on him at work, but itâs all useless. Heâs been arguing with my parents at home, Iâm afraid to go back now. Can I come to you?â
âBut Iâm not at home,â Anastasia said, feeling a little troubled, âHow about this, you find a motel to stay in for now.â
âYouâre not home? Mom told me you and Auntie are back from Willowbrook; right?â Gianna had heard this and thought to call Anastasia.
âYes, we are back, but weâre staying at Hermanâs house. We havenât returned to Harmony Meadows,â Anastasia explained, âItâs a long story, why donât you go find a motel?â
âAlright then,â Gianna said, sounding a bit frustrated, âAnastasia, after all this mess with Joey, Iâve lost pretty much all my friends. I can only vent to you, you wonât mind me rambling, would you?â
âNo, not at all,â Anastasia reassured her. Even if she did find it a bit tiresome, she couldnât let her know. Gianna was emotionally fragile right now, a careless word or gesture could be the straw that breaks the camelâs back.
Melinda was a prime example. After Melinda committed suicide by jumping off a building, Maria and Jay, in order to claim compensation from Neon Dreams, stirred up public opinion, protesting in front of the club. Maria sat at the entrance holding Melindaâs portrait.
Melindaâs parents played the victim online, accusing Neon Dreams of being heartless. Neon Dreams, in order to settle the matter, chose to compromise, eventually giving out a million dollars in compensation.
Anastasia had seen the trending news and was furious, but she felt helpless. She could only watch as Melindaâs parents squeezed out the last bit of value from her, then took the million dollars and went back to their hometown. It was a harsh reality that when oneâs power was insignificant, there was nothing one can do about the tragedies of the world.
On the phone, Gianna said, âAnastasia, tomorrowâs my birthday. Can you come and celebrate with me?â
Gianna had already said so. How could Anastasia refuse?
âAlright, tomorrow evening? I have to go to the office during the day.â
âYeah. So I guess I will see you tomorrow night,â Gianna said, âI wonât disturb your time with your husband. Iâve booked a table for tomorrow. Iâll send you the address.â
âOkay.â
The next day.
Salma was not used to such a luxurious lifestyle. Feeling uncomfortable, she made an excuse early the next morning and returned to her apartment. She had been away for quite some time and needed to clean up. Her leg injury had healed, and she did not want to continue living with her daughter and son-in-law.
But considering Pattie needed someone to take her to and from school, Salma decided to continue living at Harmony Meadows.
Herman and Anastasia took Pattie to school together before heading back to their respective offices.
Anastasia had just sat down for a breather when Christine came in, âThereâs a big client who specifically asked for your help with a jewelry design.â
âWhich big client?â Anastasia asked, putting down her water bottle.
Christine answered, âThe heiress of Brown Corporation, Julie Brown.â
Upon hearing this name, Anastasia didnât even want to entertain the idea. But before she could dismiss Julie, Julie had already barged in.
She strutted in confidently, âAnastasia, design a piece of jewelry for me. Money is not a problem, I just need to be satisfied.â
Anastasia gestured for Christine to leave, assuring her that she could handle it herself.
Christine looked worriedly at Anastasia, but Anastasia reassured her, âItâs fine, you should go back to your things, and close the door on your way out.â
âOkay,â Christine closed the door and left.
Julie sat down uninvited, her eyes coldly watching Anastasia, âI want to design a piece of jewelry for my wedding.â
âMs. Brown, Iâm not interested in your business,â Anastasia made it clear, âPlease find someone else.â
âAnastasia, I am now a customer of AL Jewelry. Since when do you turn customers away?â Julie scoffed, âDo you think that with Herman backing you, you can look down on everyone? Youâre just his plaything; the one he truly loves is someone else.â
