Chapter 308
Three demands, and two got rejected. That was like giving her a promise with no guarantees. Anastasia wasnât surprised at all. If Tavon had actually agreed, now that wouldâve been a shock. She stood her ground, âThree demands, no compromise. Iâm outta here if thereâs nothing else.â
Seeing Anastasia about to leave, Ashley quickly signaled Tavon. But he remained silent.
Ashley stopped Anastasia, taking matters into her own hands, âI can agree to your three demands, but we have one too. You have to get typed and donate your bone marrow to Sandy.â Their true intentions had finally come out.
Anastasia smirked, âNow itâs you guys, the Morton family, who want me in. Not the other way round. Youâre not in a position to haggle. I have nothing to lose.â
Seeing Anastasiaâs refusal to give in, Ashley was at a loss. She blurted out, âDonât tell me youâre not tempted by the Morton familyâs wealth. Think about how much money is a third of the property. Youâll never make that much in your lifetime.â
Compared to the Salstrom familyâs assets, the Morton familyâs wealth was nothing. Even without the Salstroms, Anastasia had never considered leeching off the Mortons. She just wanted to show them the hard-way.
When Ashley suggested Anastasia donate her bone marrow, a glimmer of hope sparked in Sandyâs glum eyes. Her illness could take her life at any moment, and she was only twenty. She wanted to live.
Tavon tried to persuade her, âAna, if you agree to Ashleyâs request, Iâll meet your three demands.â
Anastasia retorted, âWhat if I donât?â
Tavon resorted to the family card, âAna, look at Sandy. Sheâs only twenty and sheâs so young. She calls you âsisterâ. Can you bear to see her die?â
Anastasia was unmoved, completely indifferent to Sandyâs violent coughing, which made her face turn red. Sean hurriedly poured some water, with Ashley getting all flustered. âSandy, donât scare Mom.â Ashley pleaded with Anastasia, âIâm begging you. Please! Iâll kneel for you. Anastasia, please save my daughter.â
Even though Ashley was begging, her tone was murderous. Anastasia found it ridiculous, as if she was responsible for Sandyâs illness.
As Ashley was about to kneel, Anastasia didnât stop her. She just watched Ashleyâs theatrics, certain that Ashley wouldnât kneel. Seeing Anastasiaâs indifference, Ashley was at a loss. She didnât know how to end this awkward scene, and nobody was stopping her.
Ashley was extremely upset. At this point, Sean stepped in, âMom, donât beg her. Itâs no use.â
Sandy, weakly leaning on the chair, added, âMom, donât force her. She has no obligation to save me.â
âFinally someone gets it, I have no responsibility to help you.â Anastasia turned to Sean, taunting him, âYouâre a man. If you care so much about your sister, why donât you save her yourself? Your bone marrow is a perfect match for Sandy. You can save her too. Why are you begging me who is a stranger?â
Her words left the Mortons in shock. Tavon and Ashley looked panicked, while Sean and Sandy were dumbfounded. The fact that Seanâs bone marrow was a match for Sandy was news to them. Ashley and Tavon had kept them in the dark. Sean looked at his parents, questioning, âDad, Mom, is it true that my bone marrow matches with Sandyâs? Can I save her? Didnât you say our types didnât match?â
Sandy understood from their parentsâ panicked expression. They didnât want her brother to save her. Theyâd rather watch her die and suffer in pain, than have their son donate his bone marrow.
At that moment, Sandyâs heart was filled with hatred. In their parentsâ eyes, her life was less important than her brotherâs health. People were selfish. The hatred in her heart was real.
