Chapter 304
Tavon was a bit surprised but didnât think too much about it. After telling Salma to get some rest, he arranged a room for Anastasia and then took off.
Once Tavon was gone, Salma held Anastasiaâs hand and said earnestly, âAna, no matter what he does, heâs still your dad. You always call him Tavon. Thatâs not quite right. You guys are father and daughter, and I hope you can get along.â
Anastasia sighed inwardly, feeling a sense of helplessness. Her motherâs obsession with love was troubling. On one hand, Anastasia didnât want Salma to see Tavonâs true colors, on the other, she was worried about Salma getting hurt. She wished Tavon had never shown up, then she and her mother could live peacefully.
Changing the subject, Anastasia asked, âMom, do you want some fruit? I can peel it for you.â
Salma nodded, understanding Anastasiaâs intention. As she peeled an apple, Anastasia casually asked, âMom, when do you plan on going back? If youâre feeling well, you should head back to Riverdale. Youâve been living there a long tim. You should be able to adjust.â
Without directly exposing Salmaâs fake illness, Anastasiaâs words still made one feel a bit uneasy. Salma, feeling a bit nervous, said, âIâll stay a few more days. Since youâre in Willowbrook, you can look around. Speaking of which, does Herman know youâre here?â
âUh-huh, he knows.â Anastasia replied, not ready to reveal to her mother Hermanâs true identity.
Salma was currently smitten with Tavon and could easily spill the beans. Anastasia might not be in the business world, but she knew some things were better left unsaid. If Tavon found out Herman was the head of Elysian Technologies, he might get some ideas, and that would be a problem.
Salma, oblivious to Anastasiaâs concerns, cautiously said, âAna, your dad was really happy you came to Willowbrook. He even prepared a welcome ceremony for you. When you meet Sandy and Sean tonight, donât get into a fight with them, and no matter what Ashley says, donât take it to heartâ¦â
âMom, whatâs your real intention for wanting me to fit into the Morton family?â Anastasia interrupted Salma. âIf itâs to help you reclaim whatâs rightfully yours, I wonât hesitate to do it. But if itâs just to please Tavon and them, I canât guarantee I wonât do something they wonât like.â
Salma was taken aback, looking at Anastasia with her mouth agape, unable to find the words to say. âI never wanted to fight with Ashley for anything.â Salma said. âI just want you to get along with your dad and be accepted by the Morton family.â
Anastasia understood. Her mother had a complex about not being accepted by the Morton family over twenty years ago, and now she was pinning those hopes on her. Anastasia hugged Salma tightly. âAlright, I promise.â
Anastasia didnât want to blame her mother for her foolishness and confusion; she was just full of pity. After spending some time with Salma, Anastasia went back to her own room with her luggage. She organized her stuff and checked the room for anything suspicious. She didnât trust Tavon.
Flynn returned home before the welcome banquet and gave Anastasia the news. âIâve checked, the Morton family lives quite far from here, in the completely opposite direction, about fifty kilometers away.â
As Flynn sipped his water, he continued, âI also asked about Sandyâs condition. Her leukemia is very serious. They havenât found a suitable bone marrow donor, so her life could be at risk at any moment.â
âTavon was lying after all.â Anastasiaâs heart went cold despite already knowing the truth. Tavon had previously lied to her, saying Sandyâs condition was stable and didnât need her bone marrow, which was clearly a lie.
Flynn said, âI also found something else.â
âWell, spit it out, Anastasia urged.
âTavonâs son Sean is actually a bone marrow match for Sandy. They could undergo a transplant. But Tavon and his wife might not be able to bear it. After all, sacrificing their sonâs health for their daughter is a tough decision.â
Anastasia felt like her heart was being torn apart. Tavon couldnât bear to sacrifice his own son, but he was willing to let her make the sacrifice?
