The person standing at the door wasnât Herman, but Gianna.
Pattie hollered disappointedly into the living room, âMom, itâs Gianna.â
Anastasia was also taken aback. Why on earth would Gianna drop by this late? She quickly got up and saw Gianna coming in with some stuff.
âAnastasia, Iâm here to say thanks.â Gianna brought with her fresh fruits and a high-end skincare set.
Although Anastasia had never used this brand, she had heard her colleagues discuss about it. At a gathering with her classmates, those girls were all showing off this skincare product. It was famous.
Gianna put all the skincare products and fruits on the table, saying, âIâve caused you a lot of trouble because of my divorce. I feel really bad about it. These are for you, just a small token of my appreciation.â
âGianna, no need to be so formal. Take your stuff back, I wonât accept it.â Anastasia said, âIf you keep doing this, I wonât be able to help you anymore. Besides, I didnât really do much for you.â
Anastasia was quite surprised. In the past, she and Gianna didnât see eye to eye, always trading barbs when they met. Now, things seemed so chummy out of the blue, and it still felt a bit strange to her.
She actually didnât want toâmeddle in Giannaâs divorce. She had even reminded her mom not to interfere before.
âYou have to accept.â Gianna insisted, âIf you donât, it means youâre looking down on me.â
âI really donât need this. I canât use it. Iâll take the fruit, but you take the skincare products back.â Anastasia, who didnât use these big brand skincare products, laughed and said, âThis stuff is too pricey. I canât bear to buy it. Using it once doesnât make any difference; itâs a waste. You take it back, and Iâll keep the fruit.â
Seeing Anastasia saying so, Gianna didnât persist anymore. She looked around the room and asked, âHasnât your husband gotten off work yet?â
âNo, he went to a business dinner. He might be late.â Anastasia answered truthfully. This time she didnât invite Gianna to stay since last night was indeed a bit awkward.
Hearing that Herman hadnât come back yet, Gianna felt a bit let down. But she quickly covered it up, saying, âAlright then, I was just passing by. Iâll head back now.â
âOkay, I wonât walk you out.â Anastasia picked up the skincare products for Gianna to take them away.
Gianna left the apartment building, feeling a bit down because she didnât see Herman today. But she ran into Herman who just returned in the neighborhood. She didnât greet him but hid behind the community notice board.
Herman was wearing a dark coat with a deep blue suit underneath. The fitted suit paired with the coat made him impossible to ignore, exuding a charm that women found irresistible. His handsome features and cool demeanor were even more dashing than a male model. That temperament was irresistible.
He was walking alone on the quiet neighborhood pathway, the street light casting a long shadow of Herman. Just his silhouette was enough to capture all the
attention.
Gianna hid behind the notice board, watching Herman walk into the building. She felt a bit out of her mind, staring at Anastasiaâs husband. Since leaving Anastasiaâs home, Hermanâs handsome image had been lingering in Giannaâs mind.
Gianna took out her phone and opened Anastasiaâs social media, as if looking for something. There were no photos of Herman on Anastasiaâs social media. Most of her posts were about jewelry design knowledge.
Gianna put down her phone disappointedly, turned off the light and went to sleep.

Gianna always found excuses to visit Anastasia or invited her for meals. Anastasia was busy; she really didnât have any spare time. She had not worked for over two months, and Christine handed over the client files to her. She had to review each one.
Lauren resigned. As Christine mentioned before, Lauren was the daughter of the Mill family. Why would she be a jewelry designer in this small company? After knowing Herman got married, Lauren also gave up on him and shifted her target.
And Herman was busy preparing for the anniversary on the eighth of next month, worrying about how to confess to Anastasia. He was afraid Anastasia wouldnât accept it.
Anastasia didnât know what Herman was busy with. He was out early and back late every day, and he seemed very busy.
Anastasia only found out about Harmon being fired three days after it happened. She was surprised but didnât ask much about the reason.
With Harmon not in the company, she felt more relieved. After all, the way Harmon looked at her and his behavior of following her at night always made her uncomfortable. What if Harmon did something over the line?
