Chapter 250
Anastasia had been feeling super down and insecure for quite a while because of what happened four years ago. Actually, that issue should have been dealt with and solved pronto. Even if Herman couldnât swallow it in the end, they should have broken up amicably. If she continued to feel this way in her marriage, it would not do either of them any good. A marriage built on lies would not last long but just suck them deeper.
Having said all that, Anastasia spoke up, âHerman, Iâm really sorry. Iâve been hiding something from you. The kid, my mom abandoned her a long time ago. I just remembered it recently and I decided to find her and fulfill my responsibilities. I know itâs a tough pill to swallow, but I had to spit it out. I didnât want you to hear it from someone else. So Iâ¦â
He chimed in before she could finish, âSo you..
to break up amicably again?â
Anastasia looked at him and nodded, âWhatever decision you make, Iâll roll with it. If anyone else was in your shoes, they wouldnât accept it either. Finding out their wife used to be pregnant.â
He gently cut her off, âI already knew about this.â
She was taken aback, âHow did you find out?â
âCason came to me.â Herman confessed, âHe tried to blackmail me with this, but I turned the tables and got him thrown in jail.â He said it with such ease, as though sending someone to jail was as easy as having a meal.
He already knew about the secret she had always struggled to share, and he had continued to love her deeply. Anastasia remembered what Monica had once said, that Cason was sentenced for blackmail. She never thought it had anything to do with Herman. âWhy didnât you ever mention this to me?â Anastasia asked.
He replied, âItâs a small matter, no need to stress you out.â
A small matter? The thing she had been so scared of, was just a small matter to him?
âYou donât mind?â Anastasia asked, somewhat in disbelief.
He held her hands and said lovingly, âI donât mind. Itâs your past. I just regret not meeting you sooner. Youâre the wife, pursued with all my might, and if you leave, Iâd have nowhere to even cry out. So, stop thinking about divorce. Youâre stuck with me for life.â
Herman indeed went through a lot to win her over. However, for Anastasia, his words seemed like a joke. Anastasia was moved to tears by he was saying, âHerman, why are you so good to me? Iâm not worthy of your kindness.â
He smiled, saying, âYouâre one of a kind. Stop putting yourself down.â
He then turned serious and said, âAnastasia, I wonât lie to you. I was quite shocked when I first heard about this, but I know you didnât mean to deceive me. Youâre my chosen wife; I wouldnât make a wrong choice. I donât care about your past. Iâm only looking forward to our future.â
âHerman.â Anastasia was crying tears of joy; she was at a loss for words.
âYou dummy.â Herman wiped her tears away, âYouâve been bottling this up for so long. You must feel better now, that itâs out, right?â Anastasia gave a helpless smile, âYou knew what was on my mind all along, but you kept silent, Herman, youâre such a jerk.â
She playfully punched him a few times. He caught her hand and held it in his, his eyes twinkling with amusement, âItâs all because you women are too sensitive. Anyway, youâre my wife now, and you just agreed, weâre not getting divorced. Weâre in this for the long haul.â
âHerman.â Anastasia glared at him in mock anger, âYou jerk.â
He leaned down and kissed her. His kiss was so gentle, it was the sweetest taste in the world. They seemed to forget everything else, completely oblivious to the fact that Pattie, who was in the hospital bed, had woken up. Seeing her parents kissing, Pattie covered her face with her tiny hands, but couldnât help taking a peek through her fingers and giggling.
