Chapter 209
Anastasia looked towards the entrance and saw Herman, who had somehow already arrived, strolled over to her. He naturally stood by her side as if to protect her, casually taking her hand in his.
The warmth of his palm warmed Anastasiaâs heart.
âHow did you get here so fast?â Anastasia asked.
During his negotiation with Tavon, Herman had sent a text to Anastasia, who simply sent him the address. In just half an hour, he had arrived.
âI always rush when it comes to picking you up, letâs go home,â Herman said gently.
âOkay.â Anastasia smiled.
Tavon eyed Herman, feeling a sense of familiarity but couldnât place where heâd seen him before.
Seeing Anastasia about to leave, Tavon pleaded, âAna, I hope you reconsider. Sandy is your sister, you canât just ignore this, Iâm begging
you.â
With that, Tavon bowed to Anastasia.
Anastasia showed no emotion, she just squeezed Hermanâs hand tightly, and the two left the cafe, ignoring Tavon.
Hermanâs car was parked nearby. He gentlemanly opened the car door for Anastasia, carefully helping her in. Tavon stood in the cafe, watching them leave through the window.
Before long, Ashley walked in and asked, âDid that girl agree?â
Tavon shook his head. âSheâs stubborn and wonât listen to any persuasion.â
Looking at the list on the table and recalling Anastasiaâs words and actions from the moment she stepped into the car to the cafe, Tavon couldnât help but feel a sense of pride. âWhat a girl! Clearâminded, decisive, knows what to take and what not to. Sheâs not easily bullied. Once sheâs pissed, she cuts off all ties. Itâs a shame sheâs a girl.â
If she were a boy, he could have groomed her to take over the family business.
âYou sure know how to praise. I did a background check on the girl; she just works at a jewelry company. How much can she earn?â Ashley scoffed. âI heard she married a nobody, and that man I saw earlier, his car is pretty average. Tavon, you need to remember, we are seeking Anastasia to save Sandy.â
âI know,â Tavon said, âWe need to be gentle; we canât force her. Itâs best to start with Salma.â
âWe need to move quickly, Tavon, no matter what it takes, threats or bribes, we need to act fast. Sandy canât wait,â Ashley urged.
âDid you see Anastasiaâs husband earlier? Does he remind you of anyone?â Tavon asked.
âWho?â
âI canât place it, but I feel like Iâve seen him somewhere.â
On the ride home, Anastasia was in a foul mood. Thinking about Tavonâs words, she felt a chill in her heart and felt bad for Salma.
Herman broke the silence. âWhat did your longâlost father, Tavon, want?â
Leaning back into her seat, Anastasia turned to look at him. âDid Ms. Katelyn tell you?â
âYeah,â Herman replied. âShe mentioned it when she called me.â
Anastasia gave a resigned smile. âTavon just wants to use me to save his daughter Sandy.â
Hearing this, Herman frowned. âHe should be thankful heâs your father.â If not, with his shameless behavior, Herman would probably have lost his temper.
Anastasia shrugged and said selfâmockingly, âAs Tavonâs daughter, I feel really unlucky. I used to have some fantasies, but now that Iâve seen the real him, I really wish I didnât have a father.â
Herman reached over to ruffle Anastasiaâs hair. âAs long as Iâm here, thatâs all that matters.â
Anastasia smiled, enjoying the feeling of being pampered by Herman.

Once they got home, Anastasia freshened up and lay in bed. After a while, Herman, as usual, cuddled up behind her.
Anastasia couldnât sleep but didnât feel like talking. Her gut told her that Tavon would come back and would surely go after Salma again. She was just worried about what extremes he might go to.
Her fears proved to be right. Early the next morning, Anastasia received a call from the hospital. Something had happened to Salma.
