Chapter 195
During the time Anastasia was unconscious, Gianna and Joeyâs divorce case had already kicked off. At the first trial, Joey deliberately didnât show up.
With Joey playing hide and seek, the divorce case wasnât going to be a cakewalk. Cynthia was extremely worried about Giannaâs marriage.
âIs Joey willing to negotiate?â Anastasia asked.
âForget about it, that jerkâs idea of negotiation is Gianna leaving with only the clothes on her back and giving him two out of our three houses after the divorce. Is he dreaming or what?â Cynthia ranted, getting angrier by the minute. âI used to think Joey was a decent guy, but turns out heâs selfish, hypocritical and greedy. All his past goodness was just a ruse to get his hands on my house.â
Joeyâs demands were downright unacceptable. What a scumbag. Anyone would be pissed off.
Gianna quickly took a call and when she heard Cynthia bringing up Joey again, she said, âMom, why are you dredging up these headaches? Let Anastasia recover in peace. Itâs getting late, letâs head home.â
With that, she turned to Anastasia and said, âRest up, weâre heading home. Weâll visit again some other time.â
âAlright.â Anastasia hesitated. âIf you need help, just give me a holler.â
ââ¦Okay.â Gianna didnât really want to air her dirty laundry; she was too proud to accept sympathy.
As Gianna and Cynthia left the hospital, Cynthia asked, âWho was that on the phone just now?â
âMr. Rowland,â Gianna replied. âJoeyâs not cooperating, so the divorce is getting tricky.â
Joey insisted he still had feelings for Gianna and didnât want a divorce; his goal was to wear Gianna down in negotiation.
Divorce proceedings were incredibly time-consuming and draining, and if one party didnât cooperate, it became even more difficult.
Cynthia cursed angrily, âThat bastard thinks he can string you along? No way! Do you know what your familyâs assets are? How much money Joeyâs made over the years, and how much savings he has? Do you know?â
âMom, relax, Joey canât just funnel the assets away that easily. Before filing for divorce, I had already traced any assets he moved.â
Although Gianna had been a full-time housewife for eight years, she wasnât naive. When she found out Joey was cheating, she had already consulted a lawyer about these issues.
âThatâs good, thatâs good.â The always assertive Cynthia said, âWeâre not afraid of the Edmunds family. Iâve got your back. Weâll make sure Joey leaves with nothing.â
With her familyâs support, Gianna had the energy and resources to duke it out with Joey.
âThanks, Mom.â
Back in the hospital room.
Herman arrived to relieve Salma after finishing his work and had Nelson drive Salma back home.
Salma had been staying at Harmony Meadows recently, helping out with Anastasia and Hermanâs household.
Salma had seen Nelson before but she just assumed he was a coworker of Hermanâs.
When they arrived at Harmony Meadows, Salma got out of the car and said to Nelson, âThanks, Nelson. Sorry to bother you again.â
âNo problem,â Nelson replied with a smile. âDo you want me to walk you in?â
âNo need, Iâll get off here. Itâs late, you should get back. Your family might be worried.â
âAlright, Salma Be careful, Iâll head out now.â
After Nelson left, Salma turned to enter the community. A carâs headlights shone at her, making it impossible for her to open her eyes.
After a moment, a lavishly dressed middle-aged woman walked up to Salma. âSalma, long time no see. You seem to have aged a lot.â
âAshley!â
When Salma recognized the woman in front of her, she was taken aback. Although they were about the same age, Ashley was very well maintained and looked much more glamorous compared to Salma.
Salma had been looking haggard and aged due to her concern for Anastasia over the past month. Ashley stared at Salma and sneered, âIf Tavon saw you like this, Iâm afraid heâd turn around and leave immediately.â
Hearing Tavonâs name filled Salma with sorrow.
Salma got a bit emotional. âWhy are you here? More than twenty years ago, Tavon and I ended everything. What are you looking for me
