Chapter 149
Herman was a big shot with a fat bank account. Erasing someone from his life was easy as pie.
Casonâs face darkened. âMr. Salstrom, you gotta believe me. Once I get the dough, Iâm outta hereâ
Seeing Herman agree to his terms without hesitation, Cason began to kick himself for not asking for more. He gave Herman his bank account details. If he could get ten million dollars, he could pay off his eight million dollars in debt and have enough left to start fresh overseas.
Without missing a beat, Herman transferred the money from his personal account. Cason got the bank alert and excitedly checked his account balance. Ten million. His familyâs entire wealth didnât even add up to this much.
For Herman to casually transfer ten million dollars, it meant this was just pocket change to him and not his life savings. Cason suddenly realized that Hermanâs fortune mustâve been much bigger than what was known to the public.
Thanks, Mr. Salstrom With the money in his hands, Cason patted the documents on the table, laughing. âThese are all yours now. But Iâm curious, Mr. Salstrom, what are you gonna do about Anastasia?â
âThatâs between me and my wife. None of your business.â Herman nonchalantly twirled his lighter and said evasively, âYou wonât be around to see what happens between Anastasia and me.â
âWhat do you mean? Casonâs alarm bells started ringing
Herman chuckled âI wonder how you even got your lawyerâs license. You know the law, and yet you break it. Your extortion amourt is ten million dollars. You do realize thatâs enough to put you in jail for years, right?â
Casonâs face turned pale. âHerman, are you trying to frame me? Arenât you afraid Iâll expose Anastasiaâs dirty secrets?â
âYouâre such a dummy.â Herman locked icy cold, pulling out a recorder from his drawer. The recording was of Casonâs extortion attempt.
This was undeniable proof.
Herman stood up, his long fingers resting on the desk, his icy gaze on Cason. âNo one dares to threaten me. What makes you think youâre any different? Setting you free is like releasing a ticking time bomb. Do you really think fil let you go?â
Cason started to panic. With the extortion amount being ten million dollars, he could spend the rest of his life behind bars Only now did it dawn on Cason why Herman agreed to his terms so readily and transferred the money immediately. The bank transfer and recording were irrefutable evidence. âHerman, youâre a dirty rat Youâre ruthless, Cason last control and began cursing loudly
But after his outburst, realizing the consequences, he changed his tune and appealed to Herman Write me a donation agreement now, stating you voluntarily gave me the money. Hurry up, or Iâll leak Anastasiaâs dirty secrets online. Iâve got plenty of backups. If I donât make it home today, someone will post them all.â
If there was a donation agreement, it wouldnât count as extortion. Even at this point, Cason didnt Herman looked at Cason as if he was watching a clown perform, then chuckled âStupid and greedy. Youâre a lost cause. Did you really think I had you waiting here for hours doing nothing? Your private detective has spilled the beans Heâs smarter than you. As for your backups, Iâve had someone hack your computer and delete them all.â
Each word from Herman turned Cason even paler.
Herman glared at Cason coldly Still want to cross me?â
Just as he finished speaking, Nelson knocked and came in âMr. Salstrom, the cops are downstairs.â
Hearing that the police were here, Cason panicked and begged, âMr. Salstrom, I was wrong. Iâll return the money.â
Cason, shaking, tried to transfer the money back to Hermanâs phone, but it was too late. Herman ignored him, tossed the recorder to Nelson, and said casually. âGet a couple of guys in here to take out the trash,â
In Hermanâs eyes, Cason was just garbage.
âGot it, Mr. Salstrom.â Nelson signaled the companyâs security to carry Cason out of the office and turn him over to the police, then went along to the police station to deal with it.
