Chapter 103
Selena got the picture loud and clear. They were here to apologize.
But why would they apologize to Anastasia?
Oneâs a business bigwig, and the otherâs a fresh-faced assistant.
No way that was happening.
But here they were.
Pigs really do fly
Selena remembered something Victor once said, Could Anastasia be not as average as she seemed?
But sheâd seen Anastasiaâs resume, a married woman with only a high school diploma. Her work experience was nothing but hawking stuff on the street.
How could someone like that get an apology from the Ledford family?
It was mind-boggling
Even if the Ledford family had issues, it was still way out of Anastasiaâs league.
Kenny was all smiles, with sincerity oozing from every pore, but Anastasia wasnât about to accept his apology.
If she did, would the Ledford family accuse her of blackmail?
These jewels were worth a fortune. If they were seen as ill-gotten gains, she could be looking at hard times.
Anastasia carefully declined Kennyâs apology, shaking her head, âI really cant accept this. You should take it back.â
Hearing that, Kenny got antsy, signaling to Blake, âYou messed up. You need to apologize to Ms. Jewell until she forgives you
Silence from Anastasia
Wasnât this some kind of moral bullying?
Blake struggled to his feet from his gurney, wincing in pain. He apologized again, âMs Jewell, I was totally out of line last night. Iâm willing to make it rightâ
Blake didnât have a drop of booze last night, and Anastasia didnât smell a whiff of alcohol
And even if he did drink, that didnât give him a free pass.
Anastasia gave the Ledford family a look. Even though she didnât understand why they were begging for her forgiveness instead of blaming her, she still said, âBlake, youâre an adult. You can control yourself. I believe you knew exactly what you were doing last night. You should be thanking your father.â
Anastasia figured Kenny was apologizing because he knew right from wrong, not just blindly protecting his son
Blake didnât argue. He hung his head, a stark contrast to his previous cocky demeanor
Kenny seized the opportunity to ask, âMs. Jewell, so youâre gonna let last night slide?â
Anastasia hit back, âActually, I wanted to ask, are you really not going to pursue it?â
His son was beaten to a pulp and even lost a finger, and he was willing to let her off the hook.
Kenny quickly waved his hands, âWho am I to pursue anything? It was all my stupid sonâs fault.â
Hearing the Ledford family wouldnât pursue it, Anastasia was over the moon.
She confirmed, âSo weâre just gonna let this go?â
Kenny stated, âWhatever you say goesâ
Getting a definitive answer, Anastasia breathed a sigh of relief, âLetâs just leave it at that then. Blake suffered enough. Thatâs payback enoughâ
She wouldnât pursue Blakeâs actions, and the Ledford family wouldnât give her any trouble.
In reality, Anastasia knew if she actually took the Ledford family to court, she wouldnât stand a chance. So, if the Ledford family wanted to settle, she was all for it.
She was just a regular Jane. Who was she to sue them?
Anastasia didnât realize her words stirred something in Kenny
He gratefully said, âMs. Jewell, youâre a savior for the Ledford family, thank you very much.â
Anastasia was a bit puzzled, thinking Kenny was complimenting her magnanimity, so she just smiled and asked, âCan I go now?â
Kenny respectfully stepped aside, âMs. Jewell, after youâ
Anastasia nodded, eager to beat it. But she couldnât let it show, so she kept her cool, leisurely walking out of the building. Once she was out of sight, she picked up the pace, scared that the Ledford family might change their minds.
After running for a bit, Anastasia finally stopped. She sat down on a nearby Mower bed, calling Herman, âHerman, the Ledford family found me. Theyâre not going to pursue last nightâs incident. Weâre in the clear, Iâm so relieved.â
Anastasia was actually ecstatic, which made Herman, on the other end, chuckle a bit.
