Chapter 9 - Getting along?
"I had fun today, for once." I smiled as we pulled up to the warehouse where Clayton's car was now gone.
"You never once stopped smiling on the drive back here, you know. Itâs kind of creepy if you ask me," he chuckles playfully.
I pushed him lightly on the shoulders. "Maybe it's because of that funny song you played just now. Weird choice in music, just by the way." I stuck my tongue out to him, knowing that was semi why I was smiling the entire drive back. The other reason, Iâm not so sure I want to admit for myself.
"Maybe, or, the fact that I'm a really awesome person to hang out with."
I roll my eyes at his arrogant big-head. "Nah, Iâve had better company," I teased.
"Oh? Do I have competition now?" he teased back.
"Depends,â I shrugged but then leaned towards him. âBut Iâll tell you this, he got game. More game than you.â I whispered, wanting to giggle.
âI donât know . . . This guy seems too unreal to me.â
I laughed. âI think someoneâs jealous.â I sing-songed.
âNever sweet-heart.â He said teasingly, but his eyes looked dead serious.
I shrugged. âGood, because I donât want you falling for me.â
âI wouldnât, but out of curiosity, why not?â
I smiled at him, while he pulled to a stop. âBecause you wouldnât be able to handle my cuteness.â
His lips smirked. âAnd what if I could?â
âIf you donât wanna lose, then I suggest not starting this game." I gave him a cheeky grin before stepping out of the car. I was confused as to why I was flirting with Chad, but anyways, it was really so much fun! I felt devious now that I said the last words.
Samantha opened the front door and stepped out onto the porch with curiosity written on her face, as she eyed Chad and I. "Well, well, well, look what we have going on here" she wiggled her eyebrows at us as we walked up the stairs. "You went shopping? And without me!" she rudely snatched my shopping bags out my hands and ran inside.
I lifted my eyebrows up and Chad and I exchanged amused looks.
Once we were inside the house, Samantha was keeping herself occupied as she scratched through my new clothes, saying she definitely borrowing this and that, while Clayton was nowhere to be seen.
"Where's Clayton?" Chad asked first.
Samantha was putting the top up to her body when she shrugged. "He went to the big house because he said it was his families dinner time" she said in a bored tone.
I turned to Chad. "Does that mean you and Clayton have to eat human food?" he nodded. "I didn't know vampires could eat real human food" I said with amazement.
"We don't have too but when your aunt, uncle and little brother notices you haven't eaten for a week, they'll start to wonder that maybe you have an anorexia problem. That or drugs"
"Well you should go before your dinner get cold" I said, and already pushing Chad out the door.
He laughed and said "Ok, ok! I'm gone. I'll be back in an hour or two so make yourself comfortable" he said, before getting into the car.
I chuckled. "I'll try my best" I said truthfully.
"Wait! Wait for me" Samantha yelled from inside. She ran out and opened Chad's car door "Oh um I'm going to borrow this top so I hope you don't mind. Ok thanks" she got in the car and slammed it shut before I could say anything.
I waved goodbye before closing the door behind me, taking the silent house as a Sasha time alone to think.

"Did you run all the way from your house, in your pajamas?" I eyed Chad from head to toe as he closed the front door behind him, breathless and looking really cute.
"Yup" he gulped air and plunked himself onto the couch next to me and tried to catch his breath.
I stared at him and my mouth slightly dropping open. "You're a football player where you run a field day to day for hours, yet you can't even handle running a average distance without passing out from not enough oxygen" I shook my head and chuckled at Chad.
"Ha-ha, I'm not good at running vampire speed for far distances" he moved his eyes in every direction, but me, and was trying very hard to hide a smile. "I'm still a new born!" he defended himself.
I narrowed my eyes and grinned. "That's the lamest excuse I've ever heard" I pushed him lightly on the shoulder. "So what did you have to eat?"
He immediately pulled a face at my question. "Ugh, we had salad for starters, then pasta for main, then mouse cake with ice cream for dessert" he shook his head and pretended to vomit.
"Ewie! That's just torture, pure torture" I wrinkled my nose playfully.
"And to top it off, uncle Holmes insisted Clayton and I to have seconds" he patted his hand on his stomach, signaling that he did it.
I shook my head. "How can they sleep at night?" I clicked my tongue together. "But seriously, the food couldn't have been that bad, right?"
"No. But it does help a little for the blood lust and all, but it literally tastes like eating sand, mixed with sticks" he shivered. "But one of us, Clayton or me, before dinner is served, one of us would sneak into the kitchen and pour some blood into the ketchup bottle. Not a lot to make it obvious, so that we can at least have some flava!" he instantly looked around. "So.... what have you been up too....?" he held the 'o' for five seconds. "No, wait, don't tell me, I don't want to know" he wiggled his eyebrow at me.
I gave him a weird look then rolled my eyes.
"I wasn't going to tell you anyways" I shrugged and picked at my nails that have grown longer since this morning.
It was silent.
I could feel Chad's heavy gaze on me. It was tempting me to look at him, and when I did he automatically snapped his gaze off me and to his lap.
"What? Did I have something on my face?" I asked touching my face.
He shook his head and continued to look at his lap, only now frowning.
Did I do something?
"No but....... never mind" he got up off the couch and stretched.
I was confused. So very con-friken-fused!
"So where do I sleep?" I suddenly asked, to break the awkward silence.
He turned and looked around. "Well, I'll sleep here" he pointed to a two seater couch that had food stains and cigarette burns everywhere. "And you can sleep were you are, seeing as you already got a blanket" he lifted eyebrow at the brown, soft, snuggly blanket that was wrapped around me. And let me tell you the blank felt so goooood as it was as soft as a cloud- almost.
"What? I got bored so I looked around and came across this blanket" I frown innocently.
He stared at me for a moment. Eyes locked with mine. He mentally snapped out of- whatever he was in, and gave me an award winning smile. "You're cute"
I couldn't control my cheeks heating up, as I blushed.
I was just about to reply with something cocky, when I leaned my arm on something and all of a sudden the radio goes on, blasting Girls just wanna have fun - Cyndi Lauper.
Chad looks at me, then to the radio, and then back to me again with an amused look on his face.
I was frozen in my spot and my mouth was slightly open. Now I feel my cheeks burn a hundred degrees instantly. I immediately grabbed the remote and was searching for the off button when I heard Chad laugh hysterically and start singing alone to the song. At first I was shocked to see a popular, hot guy sing alone to Girls just wanna have fun, I mean were the hell is the video camera when you need it! I turned the volume down a little and he continued to sing. His voice sounded really off tune which made me laugh a full-on belly laugh. The song slowly finished and he ended it with a knee slide on the floor (rock style).
I clapped and giggled. "Encore, encore!" I used my hands as a loud speaker. He bowed and sat down on the couch, looking lazy, but since him being a vampire he did not break a sweat. "I didn't know you can sing like Cyndi Lauper. And might I say you ruled it!" I sarcastically said with a wink.
He pouted his lips and pulled a model pose. "I'm amazing, I know-I know" he smirked and ran his hand through his chestnut hair.
Boys and their egos!
We chuckled.
"May I ask, why you were listening to girls just want to have fun?" he tilted his head to the side and looked at me curiously.
I did a one shoulder shrug. "She's a legend. That song is legend. I'm surprised you know the words, let alone, I'm surprised you even have the CD!"
He copied me and did a one shoulder shrug. "My mom. She was my mom" he said casually.
It took a moment to drink in what he had just said. And then when I replayed what he said my eyes went big with shock. "WHAT?" I practically screamed.
He looked at me and then suddenly laughed himself sick for five minutes, making me slightly laugh with confusion. "Your face, you should have seen your face!" he laughed again.
I did a fake laugh. "Your voice, I should have heard your voice that I've recorded!" I mocked his tone, and smiled to myself. My smile widened when he automatically stopped laughing and scanned me to see if I did record him. I chuckled. "Sorry but I had to record you. I'm ganna get so much hits on YouTube" I laughed evilly at my phone on my lap that I took out when Chad was still laughing like a hyena.
No, I never recorded him, it was tempting but I was too caught up with him singing to remember I had a cell phone to record with. Stupid me.
He looked relieved as he just read my mind.
Shit, stupid mind reading!
He smiled at that and looked pleased with himself.
I rolled my eyes. "So why are you sleeping' here when you got such a nice room at the, uh, big house"Â asked curiously.
He gave me a cocky smile, when I knew that he was going to say something, I stopped him. "Wait, don't tell me, I don't want to know" I repeated exactly what he said to me earlier.
He narrowed his eyes, but playfully. The look that he was giving was telling me that he was now out of words and he changed the subject. "Look what the time is, it's late. We should get to bed for school tomorrow" he swiftly disappeared into thin air before my eyes, making me look around the living room where he was nowhere to be seen. I jumped when he suddenly said "Goodnight" I turned my head and suddenly he was now on the couch with a blue blanket, switching off the lamp light on the table next to him.
Wow he moves fast!
"Thanks" he said in the dark.
I growled. "That was not a compliment!" I frowned and listened to him chuckled.
After a few minutes I spoke. "Chad?" I whispered, making sure if he was asleep or not. "Chad?"
He groaned. "Yeah" he spoke louder than me with annoyance.
"Are you tired?" I stupidly asked.
"No. Vampires don't get tired, they don't sleep either" he replied.
"Really?" I asked with amazement.
He breathed out in frustration "No but I'm glad because I wouldn't want to listen to you talk all night long"
"Hey!" I protested. After another few minutes, I spoke again. "Chad?"
"Hmm" he sounded tired now.
"Is your mom really Cyndi Lauper? If so then you have the best mom in the world! And can you get me her autograph" I asked with anticipation.
"Sasha that was a joke. My momâs not Cyndi, so no, you can't get her autograph" he mumbled and yawned, causing me to yawn as well.
"Oh" I giggled. After ten minutes or so, I spoke one last time. "Chad?" he didn't reply but I still asked him "Why me?" there was no reply or sound, probably his long time knocked out into deep sleep with my talking and all. The only sound was the humming of the refrigerator and the sound of crickets outside. My eyes felt heavy and blurry and I could no longer keep them open. So I stole one last glance of Chad sleeping soundlessly before turning over and letting my eyes finally close.
