Chapter 7 - Down and dirty.
Something felt wrong. Like you know when you go to a carnival and you eat so much food before you decide to go on a ride, then your stomach flips and turns inside, feeling the vomit come up. This was the exact feeling, only there was no vomit. And I don't think, now that I'm dead, that we do throw up. But I won't know unless I try, right?
After getting into Samantha's pink BMW, the only pink BMW in the schools parking lot. She put a CD on and it boomed like a g6.
I looked around to see if any teachers were walking around, and catch us ditching class. Samantha suddenly started the engine and put the car in reverse.
"Um, Samantha I thought you said you wanted us to look at your car"
Samantha snorted. "Why would I want to just look at my car and not drive it?" she giggled.
"Well, we are skipping class you know. Where are we going anyways" I asked as she speed up, taking the national road.
"Would you just live a little" she noticed my eyebrow lift. "What I mean is, since you are already dead, just do something different, stop hiding, start being random" she laughed and turned the volume higher, that the seats started to vibrate against my back and the floor.
Her voice was really out of tone to the song that I tried very hard not to laugh. It was weird that just two days ago I was at the bottom of Samantha's friend list and now I'm like, probably number five. Smiling I started to sing with. The song ended and we both laughed.
"Your voice was terrible" I said in-between laughs.
"Hay! I wasn't that bad. I got an award for best singer at middle school" Samantha defended herself.
I threw up my hand in surrender. "Say no more" I smiled and looked to the road.
We were now driving on a no-traffic, open road. The scenery open and free, and were lots and lots of green farms with scattered animals. This place must smell sweet, yet mild from all the wheat and hay. I couldn't smell anything, as hard as I tried my nose just felt like it was blocked. I sat back into my seat and sighed. Well at least I got to smell the farms yesterday when the bus was driving on this road to Clayton's house-
Wait! This road is the exact road to Clayton's farm house. Why are we driving here?
I switch the CD player off and looked at the sign board coming up.
"Look" I pointed to the road sign board that read: Lanes Drive. Dagwood road turn right ------------------------->
"Well? What are we doing here" I asked Samantha with confusion.
Samantha rolled her eyes and took a right turn into Dagwood road.
We drove in silence for the rest of the drive. I did not mind because I was having a conversation in my head, to myself. My head remembered everything last night like it was on replay in-front of me. The sharp corners Chad took. The speeding. Only this time Samantha drove slow, too slow, like she was also drinking in the memories that change our life forever.
The car suddenly stopped to a halt in the exact spot as when Chad stopped to answer his phone.
"Should we go to Clayton's house, or should we go the warehouse?" Samantha asked with excitement.
I narrowed my eyes at the streets leaning to either Clayton's house or the warehouse. "Let's live a little. Drive straight" I looked at Samantha and gave her an evil smile. She looked impressed at my decision and drove straight.
As the sun appeared to be directly on top of us, it was hotter up on the farm than back at school or that side of sea side. Although being dead you didn't have all the human persona to feel the suns heat to burn on your skin, you could see the sweat start to form on your forehead and under arms.
The house came into view. I gasped because it looked like a president's house. No, better, it looked like a five star hotel. If it looks really amazing on the outside, how does the inside look? Better yet, how could anyone actually live in such a big house made for four hundred people? That thought tickled my brain too the core.
"Nice huh. Clayton's parents are super rich, more richer than mine" Samantha said, while driving slowly behind the side of the mansion and driving on a narrow road that was hidden in the forest.
"Where are Clayton's parents?" I asked with a hint of panic.
Samantha slightly looked to see if anyone was following us in her rear view mirror, then opened her door. "They'll be home at seven. Don't worry, we got the house for four more hours and hopefully will be done before Clayton and Chad gets home" Samantha shut the door closed like she wanted to break it.
"Wait a second!" I jumped out the car and slammed it shut with as much force as Samantha. I frown for a second, seeing as I only pushed the door lightly but pushed it aside and followed Samantha. "Chad lives with Clayton?" I asked with curiosity, while walking over a bridge that had a pond underneath to get to the stairs.
"Didn't you know there cousin's? Oh, but you don't know that because you weren't exactly around to know" Well it's not like I had people that liked me to talk with me!
"How are we going to get in?" I asked, eyeing out the door in-front of us and looking to see if there were any camera's around. Knowing places like these should have more than enough camera's securing the plot to spot out any intruders, or us for the matter!
Samantha rolled her eyes at me and pulled out a lose brick in the wall. Inside was a single silver, big ass, key. Samantha noticed my eyebrow lift and sighed. "This is how I sneak up to Clayton's room at night" she casually shrugged, and something was telling me she's been secretly sneaking in Clayton's house without him around.
She opened the door and it made an echo through the large hallway.
Everything was breathtaking as I drank every last detail of the house. The rich imperial furniture must have cost more than a billion dollar. Some things were antique and others were modern with style.
I followed Samantha to the staircase and asked "The party must have been greater than what everyone was describing about today" I sighed "Only I wished my invitation was real" I murmured to myself, feeling a little less enthusiastic about the mansion now.
"You're telling me. I thought Clayton was going too-" Samantha laughed and shook her head and picked up the pace on the huge staircase. "I thought he loved me and that he took me away from the party because I stupidly thought he was going to purpose to me"
My eyes went wide.
"I mean, Clayton and I are eighteen so it is legal to get married. But I guess this was more than surprising when he- when he, uh, killed me" she hesitated as she said those words. I did not mean to have a dark thought enter my brain about what I would do to stop the wedding if it did happen but I couldn't help it. It came unexpectedly. I liked it.
"Samantha, did you, um, die the same way as I did?" I asked curiously, remembering that I never got to see if they killed Samantha because I died first.
I was looking at the back of her head, from following her, when she slowly nodded. "It sucked!"
"Are they really vampires?" I asked.
"Are we really dead?" she replied. I could tell that as she said that she rolled her eyes.
We turned down the first passage, on the third floor and she opened the only door that was in this passage. My guess was that it was Clayton's room because it said: Enter on your own risk... Clayton's room!
If I had a heart beat it would have exploded out of my chest because I have never in my dreams or fantasies, ever imagined to be in Clayton's house, well with his girlfriend, and was about to enter his room that he sleeps in, breaths in, probably masturbated in. I always in my dreams and fantasies had always pictured that I would be popular, with Clayton as my boyfriend and us making out in his room. But like I said, never ever thought that I was going to be experiencing it for real, but, just without Clayton in the picture of course!
His room was plain and simple. Kings sized bed, with two lamps, a desk with chair and laptop, red curtains, and red silk sheets.
My eyebrow lifted as this room reminded me of a vampire movie.
My eyes drifted off the bed, remembering what Samantha told me about how she sneaks into Clayton's room at night, to Samantha that was digging in Clayton's closet. His closet was on the other side of the huge room, directly in position of view from where I stood in the doorway. His closet was the same size as my room. I didn't know guys had more clothes than girls, but I guess it just seemed a lot to me considering all I own is enough clothes girls wear in three days. If only I could smell because I was dying to know how his pillows smelt, or his clothes. Probably sweet and spicy from his usual cologne he always wears.
"Fuck! Itâs not in here" Samantha shouted with anger.
I pulled a face. "What's not where?" I asked making my way to Clayton's cupboard.
Samantha signed and flicked her blonde fringe out her face with annoyance. "Just help me look for something that's really important, ok" I nodded and she pointed behind me to the doorway "Go to the next passage and look in Chad's room and find a DVD that will probably say something weird as the title to hide the DVD away from.... people. I'll explain everything once we find it" she hesitated and started to search through Clayton's underwear draw.
I did what she said and walked to the next passage. As I was about to open Chad's door Samantha ran up to me and put her finger on her lips to silence me, even though I wasn't even making a noise, let alone breathing. That's when I heard something echo on the stairs.
Samantha mouthed "HIDE!" she swiftly grabbed my hand and pulled me into Chad's room.
I silently had to quickly close the door behind us as Samantha was still pulling me in a hurry to a hiding spot.
Where would most people hide? Under the bed? In a closet? Well, it was pretty hard considering that Chad's room was as plain and simple as Clayton's. Actually looked exactly the same but just with different color silk sheets and curtains, and Chad's bed was a queen sized bed. Chad's curtains were a green color that matched with his silk sheet bedding. Next to Chad's desk was a guitar that was leaning against it.
I grinned.
Chad played the guitar?
I snapped out of my brain freeze moment and scanned the room for Samantha. She was nowhere to be seen.
"Samantha!" I whispered, causing the room to echo in repeat, even though I did say it softly. "Samantha where are you?" I whispered again, this time I saw a hand wave at me from behind a pillar.
Samantha popped her head out and whispered "Hurry up and hide before the guys catch us"
I walked up to her. "Um, but aren't vampires good at finding people"
"Not dead people. And in any case there new at this vampire thingy" she waved it aside.
"Oh" my lips pulled into an o shape, before I looked at Samantha again. "Yeah but-" I got cut off when the door opened.
In a flash of pure speed, I ran and slid on my stomach, under Chad's bed. I know it was the worse place to hid because its common, and because you can totally see me from the doorway, unless Chad was blind, but I had to hide and the bed was right there. That or hide behind a pillar.
I could see Samantha's blonde hair from the bed, wondering what is she going to do when we get caught.
My eyes landed on faded jeans and worked its way up to the muscular arms. I moved myself backwards until my shoes touched the walls. He walked to his bathroom and closed it behind him. I was about to get out from under the bed and run to the door, probably abandon Samantha, when Samantha made her way to me and slid in, next to me. So now we're both under the bed. Great!
"Let's go" I whispered softly, before she swiftly put her hand on my mouth to shut me up.
She mouthed "He will hear you" she pointed with her free hand to her ears. My guess was that she was saying that he probably can hear anything, even can hear the traffic all the way into town.
I rolled my eyes and she released her hand away from my mouth.
I was about to mouth the 'let's go' part again when Chad stepped out of the bathroom and paused. He took out his Blackberry from his jeans pocket and started typing on that annoying key pad, before making his way towards us. Luckily he was occupied to have noticed us under the bed. He stopped in front of the bed, where our faces were, then lazily jumped on the bed.
I could hear him typing away before it stopped.
We waited under the bed, for what seemed like an hour, wondering if maybe he fell asleep because there was no sign of movement. Samantha was fighting with me under the bed about not letting me go to check if he was sleeping or not, I mean I was getting bored sitting underneath a bed, doing nothing but listen to him lightly breathe.
When I reassured Samantha that I wouldn't go and check, immediately after she looked forward I slid out from under the bed and leaped to my feet. I smiled as I saw a hand try to grab at my feet. When I turned around to the bed, I froze from surprise.
"Who the hell are you?" I asked.
"Who the hell are you?" the stranger replied, swiftly sitting up and looked ready to shout for help.
I looked up and down at him and lifted my eyebrow. My eyes looked down to see Samantha getting out from under the bed and turning around to freeze at the stranger on the bed.
His eyes widened, clearly from shock and confusion to, why were two girls under the bed?
He was really good looking and young, maybe a year younger than me. He had chestnut color hair and looked really similar too-
"Are you Chad's brother?" I asked curiously, looking carefully at his facial features. I never new Chad had a brother! Did he even go to our school?
"Yeah. Ok I answered your question, you need to answer mine. Who the hell are you and what are you doing in my room?" he said looking at me.
"That's two questions" I pointed out.
Samantha chuckled. "Well dude, you already know who I am" Samantha flicked her blonde hair back over her shoulders.
The boy breathed out a frustrated breath and nodded at Samantha "I wasn't asking you Samantha, I was asking her" he looked at me again. "But I was asking both of you what you were doing in my room"
I looked at Samantha then to the boy "Hi, I'm Sasha" I said stepping forward and offering my hand. He didn't look like he wanted to shake it but hesitantly reached for my hand, and at that moment the door opened.
Both Samantha and I jumped on the bed, me in the middle next to the boy and Samantha next to me.
Clayton and Chad stepped into the room and narrowed their eyes at Samantha and I.
Samantha immediately jumped out of the bed and ran towards Clayton. "Babe, I missed you" she reached up and pecked him on the lips, making me turn my gaze slightly to the wall behind them.
"What are you doing in Roman's room?" Clayton asked, both Samantha and I.
"Um" I instantly spoke and all eyes were on me. "Um, Roman invited me over and, well, seeing as I don't have a car Samantha volunteered to drive me here" I smiled at Clayton and Chad, hoping Roman won't protest to my huge lie.
Chad narrowed his eyes at me. "Roman has a car" he pointed out theoretically.
Shit!
"I don't have a driver's license, yet" my eyes went slightly big when Roman spoke.
"When exactly did you arrange this little get together since you, Roman, had to stay home today because you felt sick?"
Shit, shit, double shit!
"Uh...." I hesitated.
"We met at the party last night and I got her number" Roman replied casually.
Samantha looked with panic eyes at Chad, because we all knew, except Roman, that I never made it to the party last night, hell, as close as I got to the party was seeing the cars and hearing the music.
Chad slowly nodded. "Oh ok. We're going to the warehouse. Come if you want, Sasha" Chad shrugged and left the room.
I got up off the bed and followed Clayton and Samantha out the door, but before I closed the door behind me, I stopped and turned to Roman. I shrugged and gave him a huge smile and then closed the door on my way out.
I drove with Chad while Samantha drove with her boyfriend Clayton. The tension with everyone was not at ease because Clayton and Chad both knew Samantha and I were lying straight to their face. It was semi awkward as the silents filled the car. Ok, it was supper awkward because when Chad turned the radio on, the song on the radio was playing:
Took a ride to the end of the line
Where no one ever goes
Ended up on a broken train with nobody I know
But the pain and the longing's the same
Where the dying
Now Iâm lost and Iâm screaming for help
Relax, take it easy
For there is nothing that we can do
Relax, take it easy
Blame it on me or blame it on you
Itâs as if Iâm scared
Itâs as if Iâm terrified
Itâs as if I scared
Itâs as if Iâm playing with fire
As if I was Scared
Itâs as if Iâm terrified
Are you scared?
Are we playing with fire?
Relax
Chad sighed and pulled into the drive way were Clayton's car was already parked at the warehouse. I looked at the house as I remembered that that's where I got killed yesterday. I wasn't scared to be back where it all took place but I felt normal to me that even if I see the blood I wouldn't care. Which would have been strange if I was the old, alive Sasha.
Chad unlocked the doors and was about to open his car door when I said "Are you mad at me or something? Or don't you like small talk" I asked flatly.
"No, yes. What bothers me is that you didn't have to make my brother cover up yours and Samantha's lie" he sounded really frustrated.
"I didn't make him, he just went along with it, don't ask me why though I mean I just met him two minutes before you came in" I shrugged, now telling the truth.
Chad had a frown on his handsome face, making him look hotter than his usual cute face. His face softened, making me crave his angry look again. "You know I can read minds and I knew by the way you kept on cursing that you were lying and if you kept it up, I would have laughed because itâs funny listening to you freak out like that" a smile broke out on his face.
I shoved him "Hey! Stop reading my mind, you" I poked him in the shoulder and crossed my arms and leaned back into my seat, with an angry-playful expression.
"Than what fun do I get out of that" he teased and opened his car door and got out. Bending in the car he said "Dinner's ready by the way" as that words, those wonderful words left his mouth, I was already by the front door of the house in split seconds.
I looked back to Chad and his eyebrow was lifted from surprise. "What? I'm starved" I said and opened the door to the house. Ok, maybe I did show off a little but don't let a door stop me from my arguing stomach!
I walked in the living room, Chad following behind, I sat down on the messy couch where Samantha was already sitting, texting someone. I taped my finger on my knee as I looked around the room.
Yup, everything still looks dirty as hell. Isn't Clayton so rich that he couldn't even afford to pay someone to clean this shithole up!
"Thank you, Sasha, for your kind judgment of our shithole of a place. Oh, I would definitely take your opinion in consideration next time I feel like spending my endless fortune" Clayton sarcastically said as he took Samantha with him, upstairs.
I frowned, feeling a slight bit of jealousy as to what they'll be doing upstairs.
"Ok, so this we gotta discuss" Chad said as he sat on the coffee table in-front of me. "Think of me as your guidance, or better yet, your teacher. Ok, I'm going to be your teacher for as long as it takes you to become a Flesher"
"Ok, so what is a Flesher?" I asked curiously.
"A Flesher is you. You're dead and you got a very weird craving for blood and meat." He looked like he was going to add something, but stopped himself.
I nodded. "I do! Well not the blood part, but the meat part and that's exactly how I feel right now" I pointed to my stomach "I'm constantly hungry, like normally I would eat like three times a day but now I feel like I'm pregnant and can't control my hunger issues. Just the word-" I paused then whispered "M-c-D-o-n-a-l-d-s my stomach will growl and pain" Chad nodded, looking like he was my consular for food issues. "So, what's for dinner" I rubbed my hands together and smiled at Chad.
He got up and walked to the kitchen. "Me"
