Chapter 4 - Fate failure
I stared at him, for what seemed like two hours. Yes, I was freaked out, I mean, this was exactly what happened in movies before the innocent girl dies, right? My heart beat was slowly slowing down, which was a good sign, considering that I thought I was going to have a heart attack at any moment.
Why the hell would Chad be here in the first place, I mean, ok, yeah this is his best friends party and all, but why was he lurking in the shadows, in a black, tinted out BMW? Correct me if I'm wrong but that impression kind of comes off as a... creep? But on the contrary, maybe this was a prank!
"Hey, did I startle you" he moved closer to me and studied my face closely, a little too closely.
My heart beat speeded up again from his closeness, but I wasn't complaining. I felt my cheeks instantly heat up. Luckily it was night so he couldn't laugh at my sudden red cheeks.
"You just surprised me, that's all" I muttered softly. My voice matching my quivering body.
"Good, it was pretty funny seeing you freak out like that, your face was priceless!" he chuckled and shook his head.
I wanted to melt on the spot from pure embarrassment. My gaze instantly moved to his car and squinted to see if there were other people in the car. But I couldn't. That's of course, caused from the blacked-out windows. And anyways, I would have heard the loud laughter by now. But mainly I was trying to spot out someone in particular. Someone I was hoping was not in the car because I could just kill myself if he was in the car.
Chad followed my gaze. "Oh, don't worry, it's just me babe" he turned back around and slightly flinched when he saw my expression. "What?"
I never intended on exposing my face expression, which I thought I hid, but clearly it was out in the open, too late to hide. My mouth had dropped to the floor from when he called me babe. I was unable to speak, hell, to even breathe for the matter. His word surprised me more than when he freaked me out just now.
I know that I was gawking at him with my mouth hanging open and all, plus the awkward silents, so I mentally snapped out of the time freeze and have him a shy smile.
"Your weird" he said returning the smile. "Come, I'll give you a ride, we're not that far away from the party but its quicker than walking" he ushered me to his car and got inside the driverâs side.
My heart beat tripled its pace. I've never been in such a rich car in my life, let alone with a good looking guy. I opened the passenger door and got in. I inhaled the fresh smell of the car and relaxed into the soft, leather seat. I haven't noticed that I closed my eyes until I heard Chad chuckle. My eyes flew open with embarrassment, again. He shook his head at me and speeded up on the gravel road. True, this was better than walking, and true, the party wasn't far away. I could start to hear booming music straight ahead.
"I'm so glad you came" I jumped when he spoke.
"Thanks for inviting me. I wasn't sure to come" I shrugged slightly.
"Like the dress. It suits you well" he looked at me and then laughed. "I told you not to wear the glasses" he swiftly snatched it off my face and threw it out the window.
"Hay!" I protested.
He shrugged a careless shrug. "You won't need that anymore" he said with a smirk.
I folded my arms tightly against my chest. "Great, now how I'm I supposed to see" I huffed angrily, which only caused Chad to laugh again.
"You look cute when youâre angry"
I blushed.
Angry or not angry, I couldn't stay angry with the way he looked at me or the way he laughed, oh-so-heavenly!
I liked the feeling that things were starting to look up. It was just a matter of time before people would start seeing, less of a loner-loser, and more of someone that people adored, admired, wanted to be. My big heart inside was telling me that tonight was going to be the best night, and I was going to enjoy every ounce of the vibe. The music was getting closer, I could feel the beat throbbing threw the car. The adrenaline was surfacing, as well as the nerves and the acidy taste in my throat. The house was now in view as we turned a corner. The tall trees were slightly covering the house, but not enough for me to see the cluster of cars parked everywhere. Hell, it looked like the entire school was here! The music was now filling the silent car with vibrant energy. Luckily my feet were hidden in the shadows of the bottom of the dashboard, because I couldn't stop my feet from stomping with the booming music. I've never imagined my body would react to music that did not have words. I felt so energetic like I could dance at any moment if I didn't control myself, yet I couldn't control the acidy taste arising in my throat.
Please don't puke! Not when I'm this close to becoming popular! I practically screamed in my head.
The car suddenly stopped in the middle of the road, causing me to awake from my mind babbling. I squinted out the view window with confusion. The house was about 2 meters away. What, did he expect us to walk the kinda-long distance? I'm sure there was closer parking.
I turned to look at him with a question mark on my forehead. He didn't look at me, instead he reached inside his leather, jacket pocket and pulled out his blackberry phone that was vibrating.
"Hello?" he said into the phone. "Yeah, sure. Be right there" he clicked end call button and put his phone back into his pocket. He turned to me "Is it ok if we make a quick detour?"
I swallowed. My body shivered as I felt weird whenever a good looking guy would look at me. "No problem" I shrugged and grinned.
He started his engine again and took a sharp right turn, to another narrow road, which was the only other road I've seen, that just had to be right where we stopped.
"Do you mind if I asked why?" I suddenly blurted, not realizing why I had to speak my mind.
He gave a casual laugh. "I just have to pick up Clayton and his girlfriend. There at the Warehouse. We'll be at the party in no time. Itâs better to be fashionably late, you know" he smirked.
I wasn't really listening to what he was saying. My mind when blank after he said that. I, Sasha Cansino, was going to sit in the same car as Clayton. Suddenly something clicked.
"Oh shit!" I suddenly said, out loud.
"What?" Chad swiftly turned to see what happened. His expression was a little over the top, more shock than me, I must say.
I sheepishly shook my head. I wasn't meant to say that out loud. I only said that because, well, I was very nervous and didn't expect to hear that Clayton-hottie, was catching a lift with us! "I, I forgot to bring my cell phone" I lied. What the hell would I say such a dumb thing? That was far the most stupidest lie in history!
"Oh, well you don't need your cell phone tonight. Unless you were expecting a phone call?" He seemed to relax, I don't know why though, and drove faster, into a darker part of the farm.
The trees looked like they were crowding in on us. I could no longer see the moon, but could see it shine through the trees, onto the road in front of us. The music was fading away as we continued to drive in the opposite direction. I looked out of my window to see blurry, passing trees, and then water? I squinted to see if I saw right but it didn't help that Chad threw away my glasses. Yes, it was water that I saw, quite a sight for blind eyes- literally. It looked like a flowing river, hypnotizing to say the least. It made me feel sleepy, just, almost hearing the water. It did take my mind off things, like calm my nervous from Clayton. I was still watching the river when the car stopped. I tore my gaze off the river and eyed the house in-front of me. The house was a double story, wooden house that looked like it was recently painted a blue color. This house looked like it was in a life of its own, being hidden away from everything. It had a deck with a swing bench. The house's lights were on and loud music blearing, so I was assuming this was another party?
"You coming in?" Chad asked as he turned the engine off.
Hell to the yes! Clayton was going to be inside, but with his girlfriend, doing what? My stomach turned, making me nervous all over again. I nodded, with anticipation building up inside me.
He smiled. "Great" he said softly with a wink, before opening his door and closing it with a soft thud, leaving me breathless as I replayed that tiny scene in my head, almost like Chad kinda... like me. This was a first because normally he would be arrogant like the rest of the guys at our school, but I'm not complaining. Chad is finally noticing me, and soon Clayton too. I was supposed to feel happy and excited about this, so why do I suddenly feel sick?
I got out of the car a few minutes after I realized that Chad was long time in the house. "Great" I muttered as I closed the car door. "Now I'm going to suddenly rock up in the house and surprise everyone that I'm there!"
I sighed.
As I stepped up onto the deck, a cold chill started to seep into my spine and ache into my muscles. I shrugged it off and approached the door. Before I opened the door, I swiftly turned around-god only knows why, to find myself staring at nothing. Was I trying to find something to make myself scared? Because it was, because this kinda looks like a movie I once watched. It seemed familiar because it had the house, the dark shadowy trees, the shaking on the trees, the crickets, and the full moon. It was making me shit scared! Shit, I must stop scaring myself out into Acoma. What doesn't kill you makes you stronger-by Kelly Clarkson. I don't know why but I started to hum that song so I can feel better, and then turned my heel and opened the door.
The music was booming loud into my ears, yet there was no one in the living room or the kitchen. The place looked-well, dirty would be a nice word to describe the living room and kitchen. The house looked like one of those hill-Billy movies, mixed with a caravan-trailer house. It concerned me that someone would actually walk on this floor, let alone live in the house, from what looked like someone died on it with all the red stains and bread crumbs. The walls, the walls was another story, like someone had a food fight and did not clean up the mess. There was beer cans everywhere and the place reeked of marijuana. The television was on but looked like it got a banded and left, blearing with the music. I must have just snapped out of the trance because I felt another cold chill seep into my spine. I turned around and closed the door that was still open.
"Hello" I called but I couldn't hear myself from the blearing music. I found where the stereo was, looked for the remote, seeing as it did not have manual buttons, struggled for a bit to try and see what the hell I'm pressing and switch the music off. I looked to the staircase and was about to call again when my voice caught in my throat as a scream echoed through the house, coming from upstairs.
I shivered.
It was a girl scream. I instantly moved towards the staircase, even though my head was screaming for me to run back to the car. I just made it on the first step when someone bumped into the side of me, running up to the top of the stairs. All I saw was blonde hair and muscles. Clayton! Suddenly Chad jumped in-front of me, from nowhere, and gave me a nervous smile. He was making it obvious that I couldn't go upstairs by the way he put his hands on his hips. When I moved to the one side, he would move to the one side. When I would move to the other side, he would move to the other side.
I finally gave up with frustration. At that moment, something smashed against the floor, followed by another scream. My eyebrows pulled together as I got worried what was happening upstairs. "What's all that screaming about?" I asked Chad, curiously looking passed him as everything fell silent again.
"Why, do you wanna find out?" Chad asked in a low, husky tone.
I shivered and looked away from his heavy gaze. I shook my head. "When can we leave?" I asked softly, feeling uncomfortable.
He chuckled. "When I'm done"
"When will that be?"
"Soon enough" I looked at him and he gave me a weird, creepy smile.
Our eyes locked. My gaze lingered long than it should have but I couldn't pull away. Something was holding my eyes only on his. My eyes widened when his eyes went the color of red.
"What are you?" I merely whispered. He moved his face closer to mine and his smile widened. Suddenly two sharp, pointed teeth grew longer, almost looking like-"Fangs" I moved back, only to stumble and trip on, no step below me, and helplessly wobble to the floor. He looked amused as he stepped over me and opened the door wide.
I looked at him with confusion while trying to breathe properly.
"Run!" he yell and immediately I got up off the floor and ran passed him, outside into the warm night that now seemed to me like it was chilly cold.
I hesitated when I ran passed the car, wondering if I should get in it, but I knew that that was just stupid because it's his car anyways and probably has the keys. So I took a right turn, running in the direction we came from, and started to scream at the top of my lungs, wanting anyone to hear my calling. But we were too out from the original party that not even an elephant with good hearing could hear me scream.
I did not once look back, because I just knew that he would be running after me, but I wondered curiously that maybe it was just a prank they pulled on me and now I'm the BIGGEST LOSER in the world!
I stopped to a halt.
If it was a stupid prank then good for them. I was fed up being used and made fun of. I started to cry. I have never cried in my life, even when I thought I couldn't take the witch anymore. I refused to cry, but now, now this was just the worst night I have ever experienced. I slowly turned around and froze, once again. Chad was running after me, but looked like he was struggling to breath, like he was running a marathon. A soft laugh escaped my lips but I quickly pulled my lips tightly together. I wasn't going to show Chad the satisfaction that I thought he was funny.
Chad reached me and had to put his hand on my shoulder for support, while he tried to catch his breath. "Remind...me...again...why...I...don't...just...use...my...car!" he said in-between breaths.
"Because youâre not the smartest in the village. But I guess every village has its idiots" I said in a bitchy tone, one that surprised me.
He laughed. "Hey, you're not the smartest either" he looked up at me and pointed back to the house that was still in view. "You could have taken the car you know. The keys were in the ignition" he chuckled and now sounded like he was calming down, but he still had his hand on my shoulder.
It was dark and I couldn't see because my glasses had been disposed, so I couldn't see if he still had fangs, or those creepy red eyes. I never meant to move forward, bringing my face close to his face, to squint at him and look like I was trying to kiss him. I was only trying to see if I was imagining that he was a vampire or if I was just so energetic for the party that my blind eyes fouled me.
"It's not Halloween" I muttered suddenly.
"Say again?" he moved his ear closer to my lips.
"I, I said-said that it's not Halloween" I stuttered, feeling nervous that he was invading my personal space, yet again.
He moved back to study me, now placing both hand on my shoulders. "Itâs Halloween for us everyday"
"Who'sss... us" my teeth shuttered as I started to shiver, uncontrollably.
He smirked. "Here, your freezing let me keep you warm, babe" he said move closer to me.
I instantly moved back.
He dropped his hands back to his sides and looked bored. "I don't have all fucking day" he muttered softly under his breath, almost impossible to hear- almost.
"Looook, I, I don't want you to take-take advantage of meee, so please, get someone else to... do it with" damn, I must stop stuttering! But at least I got it out in the open before he would try something on me.
He rolled his eyes, well I think he did, itâs not like I could exactly see his face that was hidden in the shadows! "I'm going to do worse things than take advantage, pretty girl" he grimly grinned, causing me to take several steps back, away from this rapist.
