Morning came like the cheerful jaunt of a little fawn, injecting life into a city still in slumber.
The black Cayenne drove out of the apartment district next to the river. Emily had her right hand behind her back, rubbing the soreness of her aching waist. She couldn't help but think of his words last night. She had only just opened her mouth last night and all that she received was the clatter of breaking items.
She gently nipped at the corner of her lip and couldn't help but looked at him.
The morning light outside permeating the tint of the car window, casting a silhouette of the outlines of his face that accentuated his handsome face.
Not the same...
Dazed by the view of him, Emily stared quietly as she muttered to herself quietly.
When did the Cayenne ease into a halt, she did not know. It wasn't until Simon's captivating eyes panned to eye at her did she finally woke up. Wryly, he said, "Am I so handsome that you have to stare at me all the way here?"
Embarrassed, Emily cleared her throat. "Ahem! Who's looking at you?"
"Mrs. Chin, should I turn around and drive home now?" Simon's slender fingers tapped deliberately on the steering wheel.
Emily could never miss the gist behind his words. Her face flushed red. "No, you dummy! I have to go to work!"
Simon giggled happily. It was just for fun. As much as he wanted to, he could not go home; not when mornings were usually the busiest hours at his clinic. His Adam's apple stirred as he suppressed the urge to really turn back home.
Emily was struggling to unbuckle her seat belt when his hand reached over. Mistaking him as taking his liberties with her, she instinctively winced to the passenger door away from him. But instead, his hand reached past her to point outside the window. "That's your colleague, Hao!"
"Where?" Emily quickly looked up, unbuckling her seat belt.
Languidly, Simon said, "She just got off my brother's car!"
Only then did Emily saw a familiar expensive-looking car just two hundred meters ahead of their Cayenne. Tina did not come out of the rear passenger door. She swung her legs out of the car and before she stood up still, an arm came out from inside.
The arm pulled Tina back into the car and she fell into whoever it was still inside the car.
By the time she got up again, the lipstick on her mouth was smeared and her lips slightly swollen from something which could only be a hard kiss.
Tina covered her mouth with a hand, stomped her foot, and hurried inside.
The vehicle's rear door closed and the long black sedan drove away.
She could not see who it was inside the car. But judging from the sleeved arm and the strong manner in which he pulled Tina, Emily was certain that it must be Wilson Chin in his sleek suit and rimmed spectacles in the rear seat of the sedan just now.
Emily clicked her tongue and remarked, "So your brother's in a lonely mood lately, huh?"
"What about me?" Simon raised his brows playfully at her.
"You?" Emily grabbed the bag on her knee and said, "You're a pervert!"
After that, she practically jumped out of the car, afraid of being caught by him again, and ran into the office building.
Emily just swiped her card and stepped out of the elevator when she bumped into Tina hurrying into their office area. She tapped Tina in the shoulder and said, "I saw you getting off my brother-in-law's car, Tina. And you're still in your clothes from yesterday aren't you? Tell me, what happened last night!"
"Keep your voice down!" Tina quickly pulled her back.
"Haha, now you're scared!" Emily laughed proudly, feeling pleased to be turning the tables on Tina now. The latter had always taken pleasure in teasing her last time and now it's her turn!
"I'm scared! I'm scared!" Tina nodded, caught between sobs and joy. She tugged at Emily's arm and walked her into the office.
As their colleagues sank into their seats and begin their day's work, Emily kept her voice down to stop aggravating Tina and said, "I saw right from the start that your so-called match from the blind date was only a way of keeping my brother-in-law at arm's length. But I still wonder if it's better for you to go on with him. After all, it's Isla s true father..."
Perhaps seeing them together every time left quite an impression on her. Tina and Wilson appeared hardly like the best of matches, yet their fates had invariably intertwined and Emily was beginning to feel that he was the best match for her.
The domineering Beast the docile and demure Beauty. Two strange and seemingly incompatible man and woman now seemed actually a perfect fit for each other.
Tina sat there for a long while. Then, in a low voice, she said, "Emily, he's going to be married soon!"
Emily almost forgot about that. She scratched her hair and caught her crestfallen expression and held her hands, "So you..."
"We have nothing." Tina shook her head and muttered in an emphasis, "Nothing was ever coming out of this right from the start."
To put Emily's heart at ease, Tina smiled. "Quit talking about me in the morning. We have two interviews today. Oh, yeah. Do you want to go Wanda City after work? Isla had been wanting to go there and I'm bringing her tonight!"
"Tonight? I'm afraid I can't!" Emily frowned.
Tina began teasing her again. "You're dating your 'bully' again?"
Emily blushed and explained shyly, "Nothing of that sort! My cousin is coming!"
She did really have a date with her cousin Selena tonight. Since Selena had begun working a half-year ago, they had not met each other for quite some time. Simon was having two surgeries tonight and that gave her the chance to meet.
Selena's finance agency was not very far, so she came over after work and waited for Emily downstairs.
The two sisters had a meal together before going to a famous hair salon in Ice city. Selena was still complaining when they walked in, "Our supervisor said that if I'm still this blond girl tomorrow, she'd fire me! Heavens, I'm so unlucky, sister! She must be having some hormone disorder or early menopause!"
"Enough, stop complaining!" Emily didn't know whether to laugh or cry.
After entering, Selena stopped her and asked, "Sister, I have some extra money in my bank card. The dyeing will take some time. How about a haircut for you to kill the time?"
It could be very boring in a hair salon and Emily was afraid that she might get bored. She felt her own hair and nodded, "Okay, I'll have the tails of my hair fixed then."
There were not many customers in the salon and most of the barbers were free. Then something happened, making everyone huddled around with excited whispers and chatter.
"She's so beautiful and elegant like a fairy!"
"Yes! I bought tickets from Huang Niu two days ago to see her performance. She's so beautiful on stage! I didn't expect her to be more beautiful than she is during her performances, and she even gave me her autograph when I asked her for it just now!"
