Jason was getting lectured by his dad after all the trouble he caused yesterday in school.
"He had it coming, dad, it's his fault" Jason argued.
"All the students said he wasn't talking with you , why did you interfere?" His dad asked.
"He was acting like an asshole , someone had to put him in place"
"It's true ,dad" Cole backed up his brother.
The whole family was gathered around the table having breakfast. Jason, his parents, his seven brothers and his sister.
Jason's dad , Alexander, sighed and looked at his troublesome son. Even though he always seemed to find him in fights and troubles , he loved him dearly.
He inherited the same recklessness that he had when he was his age. "You know I can't always let you go away with this , Jason. And who's the girl you tried to cover for her absence?"
Jason didn't answer, he didn't want anyone to know about Lily .
"We're running late to school, let's go" Cole, again , helped his brother out.
"This is not over yet" Alexander called behind their backs as they ran away.
"Go easy on him ,honey" Adeline, Alexander's wife, and the mother of his kids.
"If I go any easier, soon we'll be collecting him from jail"
"Don't exaggerate, dad" Brent , the second oldest son, chuckled.
"Don't you have a university to attend?" Alexander raised an eyebrow at his three oldest sons Mason, Brent and Luke.
That was all they needed to hear before giving their mom a goodbye kiss and a light tap on their dad's shoulder.
All the others attended the same school, but it was divided into two buildings, one for the students in grade nine and below, and the other for the students above grade nine.
Sophia , the youngest and only girl in the family , was the only one homeschooled. Her parents were too protective of her .
Her dad owned a mafia afterall and she was a naive and sweet kid that wasn't ready to face the cruel world. Alexander would raise hell if anything happens to his precious little girl.
"What about you ,baby girl ? Don't you have lessons to attend" Alexander teased Sophia.
"Don't you have work to attend to?"
Sophia, and the others, definitely got this from their mother.
The attitude and sarcasm.
That's why he fell in love with her in the first place.
"Will you look at this little brat , honey?" He said to his wife.
"What can we do, her dad is annoying" Adeline took Sophia's side and she grinned at her.
"Oh I see , you are ganging on me? Let's see what the tickle monster has to say about this"
And that was all it took for Adeline and Sophia to run away.
Meanwhile, Lily woke up with a dull ache in her knee. It was throbbing badly , but nothing she couldn't handle.
She was looking forward to going to school after yesterday's event. Meeting Jason a week before school started was such a beautiful coincidence.
She now has something to look forward to.
Something to make her forget , even for a little while.
Lily's phone binged as a message popped up on her screen. It was from an unknown number.
Curiosity got the best of her as she opened the message.
'Meet me in the school's garden'
'I'll be waiting under the oak tree'
'Jason?'
'Yes , lotus'
'How'd you get my number?'
'And stop calling me that'
'I have my ways, daffodil'
'You're annoying'
'See you in school ;)'
A smile was spreaded across Lily's face unknowingly. She looked up from the phone only to see her reflection in the mirror and she quickly composed herself before grabbing her stuff and going downstairs.
Lily's dad couldn't drop her off and pick her up from school everyday that's why they signed her in the school bus.
"Good morning, mom"
"Good morning, sweetie"
"Did dad leave already?"
"Yes he had some early shipment to receive"
"Oh okay , well the bus will be here soon I better head out"
"Here's a little sandwich I made for you, don't neglect your breakfast and health"
A sad smile formed on her lips as she nodded at her mom . Giving her a quick hug Lily left the house.
When she reached the school ground she made a beeline towards the school's garden and indeed Jason was waiting for her under the oak tree.
Jason was laying on the ground , his head resting on the tree's trunk. His eyes were closed as the soft breeze caressed his face and played with his soft hair.
Lily sat next to him with her legs criss crossed and just stared at his side profile. It was perfect.
Jason felt Lily's presence, but didn't bother to open his eyes yet.
"So .." Lily trailed off
He still didn't say anything.
"Are you asleep?" Lily poked him and this finally got him to open up his eyes.
His tired eyes stared deeply into her ocean blue eyes and her heart skipped a beat. The messy hair, the sparkly eyes and the slightly pouty lips did weird things to her.
Little did she know that the calm expressions on Jason's face were hiding how crazy his heart was beating inside of his chest.
He was almost sure she could hear his frantic heartbeat.
Lily cleared her throat as the tension between them grew by the second.
"My class is about to start , if you don't have anything to say I better head there now"
"Will you go with me to the charity ball next week?"
"Charity ball?"
"Yes , my dad his hosting it so obviously I have to attend and I'd prefer having my clown to entertain me"
"Haha, really funny- ...wait do we have to get all fancy and stuff?" Lily excitedly asked.
"Yes there's a dress code though, it's a masquerade and everyone should be wearing black"
"OH MY GOD! That sounds straight out of a movie or book or whatever. I'm definitely going"
"Oh really? Now I don't want to go anymore"
"It's not up to you anymore , we're going even if I have to drag you there"
"Excited much?"
"Shut up , that will be so fun"
"Okay , little dog , stop wiggling your tail and go to your class"
"Donkey, don't you have a class too?"
"I don't feel like attending"
"Nope , you're going too, get up" Lily ordered him as she stood up and lightly kicked his leg"
"Don't tell me what to do"
"Don't tell me what to do" Lily mocked him and tugged at his arm, trying to get him to stand up.
"Leave me alone, you're annoying"
"Stop complaining like a little boy , move your lazy bum"
"What class do you have now?"
"I don't fucking know"
"You're unbelievable"
"And you're annoying"
Lily rolled her eyes at him and he tugged on her hair " Attitude, little brat"
"Don't ever touch my hair or else I'll chop you fingers off" Lily warned.
Jason chuckled at her supposedly 'angry face' . She looked adorable rather than scary .
Turns out Jason and Lily had the same class, History. But someone else was in this class too , Robin.
The moment they reached the class Robin also got there at the same time. Jason glared at him and Robin glared back at him while clenching his fists.
Lily sensed the building tension so she tugged Jason's jacket and pulled him inside the classroom.
"Fucking asshole" Jason muttered under his breath as he lead Lily to the back of the class taking the two seats next to the window.
Robin also headed to the back of the class , only he sat on the other side of the room.
"Good morning ,everyone" The history teacher greeted as she entered the class.
"Today we have a new student" she said motioning towards Lily "would you please introduce yourself to the class".
Lily was socially awkward and she didn't like the attention to be on her . So as the whole class turned their head to look at her she was getting hella nervous.
She was thankful that the teacher didn't ask her to stand up though, that would've been worse. Jason placed his hand on hers and squeezed it in an attempt to calm her down a bit, but he didn't know that this was enough to wake up the butterflies inside her stomach making her even more nervous.
"Um hi , my name is Lily White "She didn't know what else to say.
"Well it's nice to have you with us Lily, anything else you'd like to add?"
"No" Jason answered instead of her , staring right back at the teacher.
"Alright then. Next time let her answer for herself ,Jason" the teacher said pointedly before starting the lesson.
"Thank you" Lily whispered to Jason thankfully and he smiled back at her.
"Anytime ,Fiore"
Lily would normally not apprehend anyone answering for her or talking on her behalf, but this time she was thankful for Jason because she really didn't want to deal with the unnecessary attention .
He's a good donkey.
