Lily sat on the bed looking at herself through the long mirror that stood opposite of the bed. She was staring and nothing and everything, particularly at her swollen kinda reddish knee.
Her eyes trailed upwards towards her skin that looks paler than ever. Her dark eye bags and her noticeable weight loss that made no sense when she's been eating enough.
Sadness and depression hit Lily in waves , each wave bigger and stronger and more intense than the previous one. She couldn't do this today ... pretending.
She couldn't pretend that she was okay. She couldn't pretend to be the strong, unbothered girl. She couldn't pretend that her life was happy and perfect.
She couldn't do it ... not today.
Lily's birthday was in ten days, January the tenth.
Yes, today was new years eve.
Although she should be happy and excited that she's turning sixteen, she couldn't bring herself to do so. She was dreading that day for so many reasons.
One of them is that she'll have to reveal her darkest secret to Jason. The stranger boy she accidentally met, the boy that became her everything in such a short time.
The boy whom she fell head over heels for. Who made her feel loved and cared about like no one ever did. Sure her parents loved her and cared about her, they're the best parents she could ever ask for.
But that kind of love is different. She was their daughter after all , they would love her no matter what. That's the type of love and care they're obligated to give.
She is talking about romantic love. The love when someone loves you even after seeing all your flaws and imperfections. The love where he could have chosen anyone in this wide world, but he chose you.
You out of all people.
He picked you to be his everything. He loved you unconditionally despite all your flaws. He saw your imperfections as perfect and decided you're the one he wants to spend his life with.
That kind of pure love that everyone looks for.
But how would she tell him? It will break him.
It's already breaking her...
How would he react? Will he hate her, push her away, shout at her or leave her? So many theories, so many possibilities ,so many scenarios... That's what scared her.
Seeing the look of rejection in Jason's eyes.
Lily never got attached to anyone and she could care less about your opinion towards her. She didn't need anyone's validation and if people wanted to leave, she'd wave them goodbye.
But when it comes to Jason... she feels sick to her stomach just by the idea of him leaving her and being a stranger again.
She'd rather die.
Lily sarcastically laughed at herself and stood up from the bed going downstairs. She didn't bother changing or even washing her face, her mood was bad and her emotions were all over the place.
Her parents left a short while ago to do some much needed grocery shopping. They offered her to join, but she's not in the mood to do anything today.
She slumped on the couch and turned the TV on. National Geographic Channel was on , of course it would, especially when her dad was the last one watching on it yesterday.
He loved nature and everything related to it.
She watched as a lion jumped on a deer and tore through its throat, her eyes glazed over as her mind drifted towards Jason, again.
Her phone vibrated in her pajama's pocket dragging her back to reality. As she opened it her heart skipped a beat when she saw who messaged her.
Of course it was Jason.

Be ready by 11 pm
The text simply said and Lily obviously asked why.
I'm taking you out
I have to go now, but I'll see you later, Fiore xx
Lily groaned. It's not like she wasn't happy that she'll be able to see Jason instead of having a pitty party at home.
But today she woke up and decided she's depressed and he's ruining her plan. (A/N: I hope I'm not the only one that does this ð« ).

"You look magnificent" Jason said as soon as his eyes laid on Lily's beautiful face.
"Really? I didn't want to wear a dress because it's kinda cold"
It was a lie . Lily wasn't cold; she just didn't want Jason to notice her swollen knee.
"It doesn't matter, you look perfect with literally anything on. And I'm sure you look even better without anyth--"
"Don't you dare finish that sentence, Jason"
Lily warned him, narrowing her eyes at him to which he chuckled.
"Where are we going?"
"You know I won't tell you, so why do you ask every time?"
"It's worth a shot"
"Mhm"
"So you're not celebrating with your family?"
"Nah, they all have plans, just like we do"
"Like you do, you mean. I had no plans of getting out at all"
" Aren't you so cheery today, Daffodil"
"Sorry, I'm just having a bad day I guess"
"It's okay, that's why you have me to lift your spirits"
"Awww, you're so cute, Jasey bear"
"Don't call me that, Lotus" Jason said as they pulled up near a dock and then went around the car to open the door for Lily.
"Thank you, such a gentleman"
"Only for you" He said with a wink.
Lily blushed in response, he was so damn hot without even trying.
It was now quarter before twelve as Jason intertwined his hand with Lily's and walked her towards the end of the dock. A small boat was waiting for them and Lily frowned with confusion.
"We're going on that?"
"Obviously"
"Is this your boat?"
"As far as I know, yes"
Lily looked down at the swaying boat and gulped. Let's just say she isn't a big fan of water that is deeper than her height. It's not that she can't swim, she's just not a big fan of boats.
Jason noticed her hesitation and got in first before offering her his hand.
"Come on, Lily, you'll be okay"
"I don't know.." Lily trailed off.
"Do you trust me?" Jason said, making eye contact with her.
"Yes"
Jason smiled with adoration "Go on then, I won't let anything bad happen to you"
Lily nodded at him then took his stretched hand and stepped onto the boat. The boat swayed with the added weight and Lily clutched onto Jason's shirt.
"I got you, bambina" Jason murmured into her ears and guided her to the seat opposite of him before going back to his seat.
"One more thing, Lily. Can you please close your eyes?"
"Why?"
"Because I have a surprise for you"
"Here? In the middle of the water?"
"Yes, hurry up, it's almost midnight."
"Okay okay"
Lily closed her eyes and placed her palms on them, at Jason's request.
"You can open now"
Finally hearing these words Lily opened her eyes only for them to widen. Her hands flew to her mouth as she covered them in shock.
"Oh my god, Jason" The words left her lips in a whisper and her breath got caught in her throat.
Hundreds of lanterns were flying everywhere around them, their reflection on the water making it even more magical and unreal.
"I know you love tangled so much. I hope you liked it and sure as hell hope you feel like a princess, because you are"
Lily's eyes filled with unshed tears as she stared at Jason with love and fondness. He's the most perfect boyfriend she could ever ask for. He's asking if she felt like a princess, heck no ... She felt like a queen.
Fireworks erupted in the background signaling the beginning of new year and Lily flung herself at Jason, hugging him to show him how much she adores him.
How much she appreciates him.
How much she's in love with him.
"I get that you liked it" Jason whispered into her neck, his hot breath fanning her skin.
"I love it! Thank you so much, Jasey."
"Sorry I couldn't get two lanterns, just like in the movie, because I'm sure you're clumsy ass will burn the boat and we'll end up drowning"
"Heyy, I'm not clumsy"
"Oh yeah?"
"Yes"
"Sure, princess"
Jason wrapped his arm around Lily's waste as she sat beside him. They were both soaking in the view in front of them. The view of the sky that was full with stars, lanterns and fireworks.
"Jason"
"Yes, love"
"Happy new year"
"Happy new year, baby. To many more years together"
Lily barely smiled back at him before diverting her eyes towards an nearing lantern. She smiled in excitement and tapped Jason's thighs repeatedly then motioned towards the lantern.
"Oh my god , oh my god... this is just like the movie"
Lily stood up and bent over the edge of the boat trying to reach it, forgetting about her fears for the moment.
"Lily, wait. Be care-"
Before Jason could finish his sentence the boat flipped over and soon enough Jason and Lily were soaked with water as they surfaced and tried catching their breath.
Jason held Lily in his arms before shaking his head as a laugh escaped his lips. "And you say you're not clumsy, Daffodil"
"Shut up"
