Chapter 48: Bloom
Wen Yufeng did not like animals, especially animals that could be easily crushed with a little bit of force.
Looking at the baby catâs slender neck and claws, Wen Yufeng felt that his future life alone was covered with a thick layer of darkness.
However, under the eager gaze of the girl, he had no choice but to nod.
Seeing Wen Yufeng agree, Qin Qingâs eyes lit up.
She held back her excitement and stretched out her hand to pull at the small shoe box. As she dragged it, the little kittenâs body started to tremble with fear.
The pure white fine soft short hair trembled slightly.
The pair of wet black eyes stared at the two of them.
Wen Yufengâs eyes flashed.
â¦â¦This aggrieved gaze was really similar to that girl to some degree.
Before he could pick it up, he had already noticed the sign of its resemblance to its owner.
Wen Yufengâs gaze unconsciously drifted towards the girl in front of him.
âMeowâ¦â¦â
The girl didnât look at him, instead, she was like a cat purring. Her soft and gentle voice comforted the frightened cat.
Hearing this voice, Wen Yufengâs eyes darkened.
He lowered his hand to the side and clenched it tightly.
Qin Qing recovered, âShould we take it back for a wash?â
Before she could finish her sentence, Qin Qing noticed the strange expression on the boyâs face.
She was stunned for a moment. âWen Yufeng, are you uncomfortable?â
Wen Yufeng looked to the side with a somewhat embarrassed look in his eyes. He then coughed lightly and said in a hoarse voice:
âLetâs take it to the pet hospital to do some deworming, cleaning, and vaccination first. Then weâll go pick up the cat litter and the milk powder it can drink.â
Qin Qingâs eyes widened when she heard this. âSo much preparationâ¦â¦I didnât even know.â
Wen Yufeng didnât say anything. Instead, he locked the screen of his phone with the search engineâs interface lit.
ââ He had always thought that having a cat and a dog wasnât anything that could make people happy and he had just verified it.
The next second, the girl smiled brightly at him. âIâm glad youâre here.â
Wen Yufeng: ââ¦â¦â
Well, it seemed like it wasnât impossible to make a person happy.
â¦â¦â¦â¦
It was definitely not an easy task to buy daily necessities for a little kitten.
Wen Yufeng and Qin Qing took a taxi to the nearest pet hospital. They first took the kitten for a complicated physical examination.
Fortunately, apart from some parasitic problems, there were no health risks. Qin Qing was relieved.
However, the process after that still made her suffer quite a lot. Besides that, Qin Qing was even more tormented by the shrinking expression on its face when it faced the needle.
If it werenât for the fact that she was still rational and Wen Yufeng was blocking her way, Qin Qing didnât doubt that she would have ran over and taken the little cat away when she heard itâs crying.
After leaving the pet hospital with great difficulty, Qin Qing and Wen Yufeng took the cat to the nearest shopping mall.
âIâll go in and buy its corresponding daily necessities. Wait for me here with it.â
Wen Yufeng worriedly instructed Qin Qing.
ââ
Seeing his little girlâs mind on the catâs body, he was very worried that she would be kidnapped along with the catâ¦
Qin Qing did not notice the thought of Wen Yufeng. She just raised her head and replied. She hugged the cleaned kitten and waited obediently at the door of the mall.
It didnât take long for Wen Yufeng to bring out his bags.
Just as they were about to talk, Qin Qingâs phone suddenly rang. She looked at the caller ID and was shocked by the time in the upper right corner of the screen.
âGrandmaâ¦â Qin Qing answered the phone in a daze.
âTian Tian, where are you at this moment? Why arenât you coming home for lunch?â
Grandma Qin asked worriedly, âDid anything happen?â
âNoâ¦â¦â Qin Qing shook her head. After a while, her eyes lit up and she said,â Grandma, Wen Yufengâs cat is sick. Weâre taking it for an examinationâ¦â
Qin Qing lied while looking at the boy standing beside her guiltily.
Hearing her excuse, Wen Yufeng lifted his eyes with a faint smile and looked back at the girl.
Qin Qing quickly turned her gaze back.
âXiao Yuâs family has a cat? Iâve never heard a cat meow beforeâ¦Then,Tian Tian, when are you coming home? Iâll heat the food up again.â
âIt will still take a while for us here. Maybe we will go straight to school after sending the cat back. Grandma, donât wait for me to eat. Iâll take care of it myself.â
âReally no problem? Donât be late for class in the afternoon. You have to be careful outside. Donât eat from those dirty roadside stalls.â
âAlright, I got itâ¦â Qin Qing replied helplessly. âGoodbye, Grandma.â
â¦â¦
After hanging up, Qin Qing guiltily turned to Wen Yufeng.
âIâm sorry for troubling you today. Weâll send it back and Iâll treat you to lunch.â
He held the cat litter and cat food in his hand and took the bag that was specially used to hold the cat, then walked forward.
âAlright, letâs go home first.â
It had already been half an hour since the two of them arrived at Wen Yufengâs house.
Qin Qing led the little kitten to the side and set up a âhome â. Then, she followed the instructions of the veterinarian and poured some milk powder for the little kitten. After tidying up the litter and settling the kitten, Qin Qing got up and walked to the living room.
âWhere are we going to eat for lunchâââ
Qin Qing asked while walking out to the side. However, when she saw the figure in the kitchen, she was stunned.
The girlâs footsteps stopped.
At this moment, in the kitchen, a boy in light grey home clothes was standing in front of the cooking table. His slender and bony fingers were holding the vegetables on the chopping board, and the knife in his right hand was rapidly rising and falling.
There werenât too many fancy movements, but the thick and even slices of vegetables and the sharp rise and fall of the knife were enough to show the extremely skilled knife skills of the boy who stood there.
After a short while, an entire carrot had been cut into thick even slices, neatly stacked on the side.
Wen Yufeng flanked the knife then lifted the carrot slices into a transparent glass bowl.
Then, the knife in his hand rested on the chopping board. He looked up at the kitchen door.
The girl who was originally standing in the living room had already walked in with her mouth wide open in surprise.
âWen Yufeng, youâ¦do you actually know how to cook?â
âIâm not used to eating unfamiliar food from unknown sources, and Iâm the only one at home.â
Wen Yufeng looked at the girlâs surprised expression for a few seconds. After he took it into mind, he lowered his gaze in satisfaction. He took out the washed shrimp from the other bowl beside him and continued to bury his head to work.
Qin Qing watched as the shrimp were cut off with their tips, tails, and thin legs in the middle. Then, light gray shrimp lines were easily picked out.
Instinctively, Qin Qing recalled her previous attempt to be Grandma Qinâs assistant where she was caught in a difficult situation.
Compared to him, Wen Yufengâs natural speed was amazing.
Especially when Qin Qing saw the guyâs slender knuckles fiddling with some shrimps that were translucent, she almost doubted what kind of craft she was looking at.
After picking up the shrimp thread, the boy went to the sink beside the cooking station and washed his hands before returning to the front of the performing stage.
ââ¦â¦Can I help you?â
Qin Qing could not stand any longer and asked shamefully.
âYes.â After Wen Yufeng finished his words, he slowly raised his gaze and his thin lips curled into a lazy smile. âJust stand there and watch. It should be the greatest help to me.â
Qin Qing: ââ¦â¦â
After two seconds, she struggled unwillingly. âActually, Iâm not as clumsy as you think â¦â¦â
Wen Yufeng, who could hear the girlâs frustration in her voice, was about to bend over to cut through the shrimpâs body when he paused. After two seconds, he laughed softly and raised his eyes.
âTian Tian, you misunderstood.â
Qin Qing looked at him in confusion.
âI said last time that your hands were too small and you canât hold the bowl and you should stay away from the kitchen to avoid hitting the dishesâ¦Do you remember that?â
ââ¦â¦â
Qin Qing didnât have the nerve to say âYesâ and just looked at Wen Yufeng silently.
Hearing Wen Yufeng laugh again, he looked down at the table in front of him and said:
âThe head of the shrimp is very hard and could prick your hands; all kinds of kitchen tools are very sharp and you could be injured. When you put materials with water in the oil pan, the splashed hot oil would burn you; the hood canât extract all the oil smoke, which is bad for the trachea and skin â¦â¦â
One by one, the boyâs voice, which always sounded lazy and casual, this time, sounded gentle.
After he finished speaking, he slowly raised his gaze and looked at the girl in the center of his focus. âWhat I said last time was just a joke,â he said with a gentle smile. âWhat I really wanted to say was that Tian Tian is a girl who should be well cared for. I donât want you to do these thingsâ¦In the future, as long as thereâs a chance, Iâll do these things for you. You donât need to learn and you donât need to be depressed because youâre not good at it.â
Wen Yufeng paused for a moment before continuing with a hoarse laugh,â Actually, Iâm very happy that youâre not good at it. Because this means that for the Tian Tian I didnât know in the past, she was treated very well. There was no bitterness and she didnât have to try anything.â
âThis way, I wonât have to regret why I didnât appear before you earlier.â
ââ¦â¦â¦â¦â
Qin Qing stared blankly at the boy who was standing in front of the cooking table with the light on his back. At this moment, the depths of her heart moved as if a seed wrapped in snow met the spring sun.
As a result, the snow shell melted and the Tian Tian snow water flowed along the blood vessels with cheerful gurgling sounds, bringing joy to the hundreds of bones and limbs.
The bud that had once been wrapped in snow finally broke out and drwe away its slender branches.
A flower stalk on the branch trembled and suddenly bloomed.
