His arm loomed over her as he pointed at the screen, identifying the contract loopholes for her. He was merely inches away from her nose. Naturally, his scent that was mixed with a faint alcoholic aroma wafted through her nose.
âWhy are you looking at me? Look at the contract.â Jerome directed her head back at the screen.
assertive demeanor had her pouting her lips. Still, she didnât object and read through the contract again.
Comprehension on her once she picked up on the issues Jerome detected. It wasnât easy to spot the loopholes, but he managed to do so with a single glance.
Amazed by his capability, she now understood how excelled at managing Miller Group.
Mikayla circled a few issues and amended them meticulously under Jeromeâs guidance. Then, she sent it over to Stephen.
She stretched herself once she was all done. That was when fatigue finally struck her.
Sheâd been under the weather, and she was busy throughout the entire day. Taking shower and sleeping were the only things on her now.
Jerome, however, was planted next to her at the moment. His eyes were still hooded as he stared at her with an indiscernible expression.
âI thought you didnât bother much with your family business. You didnât even want me to help you out. When did you become so attentive?â
Unfazed, Mikayla answered, âI didnât want you to get involved because I donât want to rely on you. Also, itâs only natural for me to care about the business. Itâs my familyâs business, after all.â
A pang of uneasiness shot through Jerome once he spotted her indifference. Pressing his lips together, he remained silent and lay down.
Mikayla ignored him and took a set of pajamas out of the wardrobe. She headed toward the bathroom.
The traces on her body faded after a day. Still, some were stubborn on the spots Jerome was harsher .
She cursed under her breath and strode out of the bathroom in her pajamas.
Jerome had already fallen into deep slumber. He wasnât covered in a , and he didnât even take off his shoes. He slept with his back propped against the bed frame, breathing steadily.
His cold and distant features, seemed to soften during his sleep. It made him look gentle. Light cast down on his perfectly sculpted features, making him appear particularly alluring.
Mikayla remembered what she did on their first and only night here. She scrambled up at midnight after feigning sleep and made her way to Jeromeâs bed. She couldnât help but peck a kiss on his cheek.

Mikayla let out a selfâdeprecating chuckle. She took a blanket fell asleep on the couch. Exhausted, she didnât suffer from insomnia and fell asleep in a heartbeat.
She felt something warm and damp against her cheek amidst her deep slumber. To no avail, she struggled to open her eyes. She spiraled into unconsciousness again.
It was already bright out when Mikayla woke up the next day. She took her phone over and realized that it was already 9:00 am.
Stephen replied to her, saying that heâd get his secretary to amend the contract. He also expressed his gratitude for Jerome.
Worried that Stephen might not heed her suggestion, she specifically mentioned to him that Jerome. helped to read through the contract and assisted in the amends.
Her tactics worked. She presumed the other party wouldnât sign the contract once they saw the improvised contract. She made a mental note to thank Jerome once everything was settled.
She was searching for Jerome downstairs after she freshened up in the bathroom. They had agreed to continue with the divorce proceedings today at the courthouse.
