Chapter 229 Carter stopped abruptly as he spotted Jerome emerging from the safety door after a call.
He blurted out, âJerome, you have to stand up for Kylie! Look how devastated she is now!â
Jerome glanced over at Mikayla, only to be met with her deadpan eyes.
Mikayla managed to deduce what happened from Carterâs words.
Kylle fell sick in the resort after she took the medicine Jerome bought.
She was then rushed to the hospital to have her stomach flushed out, and Carter suspected that Mikayla was responsible for the incident.
It turned out that Jerome left in a hurry because Kylie was admitted to the hospital.
She was summoned to the hospital for Kylieâs sake as well.
âDad, this might be a misunderstanding. Donât put Jerome in a tough spot,â Kylie interrupted weakly.
âKylie, youâre being too considerate!â Carter exclaimed.
His heart ached as he continued, âTell me, how many times did Mikayla hurt you? I wouldnât have known if it wasnât for Agathaâs slip!â
Kylie endured her discomfort and replied, âThose were just some minor injuries. Itâs not a big deal. Jerome had already apologized in her stead, after all.â
âMinor injuries? Donât you take me as a fool! Your head was literally bleeding, and there were bruises on your neck. You wouldâve been strangled to death if Jerome didnât show up in the nick of time! Carter hollered âI demand an explanation for this, no matter what!â He glowered at Mikayla.
Just then, the arrived.
Jerome said calmly, âMr. White, letâs head to the ward first. Weâll discuss this there.â
âAlright.â Carterâs tone was laced with fury as he began to wheel Kylieâs gurney into the elevator.
Mikayla remained rooted to the spot.
Jerome chanced another glance at her and said, âCome with us.â
She sneered. âWhat does this have to do with me? Why did you ask for me, and why should I follow you guys to the ward?â
âWhy, you!â Carter almost burst into a fit of rage, but Kylie tugged on his sleeve.
âForget it, Dad. Let her be.â
Seeing how unwavering Mikayla was, Jerome politely urged the two nurses to leave first. âPlease give a moment.â
7/2 The nurses, perhaps stunned by his domineering presence, exchanged glances and left.
The elevatorâs door closed, and Jeromeâs shifted toward Mikayla.
âDid you tamper with Kylieâs medicine in the car tonight?â
Mikayla scowled. âCanât you at least let me know what happened before you start interrogating me? I literally have no clue about whatâs happening. How am I supposed to answer your question?â
Jerome ignored her taunt, and continued coolly, âI had people verify, the medicine, and itâs perfectly fine. So, it isnât the pharmacyâs fault. The server didnât stop anywhere else when she delivered the medicine.â
*Since you already have an answer and have me convicted, whatâs the point of asking me again?â Mikayla scoffed.
A hint of anger flashed across his face. âQuit the nonsense, Mikayla. Weâre dealing with facts here. Kylie ingested propranolol tablets, which are incompatible with the antibiotic amoxicillin by error. Her condition was nearly fatal. I requested for you here to get rid of any possibilities.â
Mikayla decided to set her displeasure from being doubted aside. She figured acting spiteful wasnât going to solve the issue.
She recomposed herself and said, âI didnât tamper with her medicine, so I have no idea what youâre talking about.â
Jeromeâs expression was indiscernible as he replied, âThe pharmacyâs security footage showed that you lingered around the antibiotics section for quite some time.
In fact, Mikayla did linger around in front of some shelves to avoid Jerome. âThen, you shouldâve known that I did not purchase any propranolol tablets.â
