Chapter 45: XXXXV - "Groomers"

Silent But Deadly// COMPLETED✔️Words: 12494

"Diamonds?"

I turned my head to see a very drowsy Kai in the passengers seat as we leave the base.

"Yeah Finnels?" I ask in the same tone.

"Can I stay with you until this whole situation blows over?" He asks nervously.

I was a little shocked at his words, but I knew the reason behind it. Liam even asked me to sleep in the same bed as him, Kai is restless I guess. He just wants to get back on track, everybody wants him to get back on track.

"Of course," I reply with a small smile, "We'll go to your house right now and I'll help you pack a suitcase," I offered.

He beamed at me and his adorable boyish smile plastered his face as I called Liam to tell him the plan. I don't know what has gotten over me, but one minute I'm pissed at Kai and telling him I don't need his help, and then the next, I'm fucking cuddling with him. It's hard to not care anymore, it's hard to try and be angry with him when he's giving me more and more reasons to be near him. But it's okay, once this whole mission turns out successful, we may never have to see each other again. Other than school of course, but other than that, never again. I just have to go through this without reminding myself of his mistake, easy peasy, right? (Note the sarcasm)

I pull up into his driveway and we head into the house and up the stairs. I tried avoiding of looking up at the interior because it would only remind me of when I left, so I kept my eyes glued to Soldier the entire time.

We entered Kai's bedroom and I was astonished at the things that it held. I realized I had never been in Kai's room before and it wasn't anything like I imagined. Many blank canvases and unfinished ones were placed amongst the room and scattered about. Paint brushes and buckets and many metal or wooden palettes were placed all over the room and I stopped in my tracks to admire the paintings.

Some were beautiful landscapes of sunsets or of a forest. Some were the ocean and it had a lot of precise detail in it. But the one that caught my eye was the side view of a girl with a golden mask on her face, her black high ponytail was all ruffled up and some tassels hung about her face. Beads of sweat dripped from her forehead and her muscles were nicely defined as well as her abs. But what I really loved the lost was the amount of detail that was put into her tattoo of roses, but what was underneath it pulled me in more.

Under the tattoo was a faded, but visible scar of shattered jewels. The shatters decorating her arm like her tattoo and the way it was as faded as mine. Flashes of light were shown in the dark background as well as the silhouettes of the audience and I absolutely adored it.

"You like it?" I heard Kai ask from behind me which made me jump back.

"You frightened me," I laughed as I placed a hand over my heart.

"But do you?" He asked nervously. I reached up to his head and started smoothing out the creases his forehead made and that made him relax a bit.

"I love it," I smile and that causes him to smile as well, which was soon followed by a yawn.

"We should get going if you want to go to sleep," I said as I started moving towards his suitcase. He softly pulled it away from me and we started going back out the door.

Once we had made it to the car and pulled out of the driveway I turned to Kai, "You don't want to eat first? The chefs should be finishing up dinner by now," I suggested.

As if on cue Kai's tummy grumbled and he chuckled, "I guess so."

On the way home I couldn't help but feel good that I'm doing something for someone again. I haven't been doing many personal good deeds for anyone lately since I've been so engrossed into the gang, but helping someone out again makes my body fill with happiness. I missed doing good deeds and making others heal from their situation, I missed talking to someone so calmly but yet so humorous, and I didn't want to lose this feeling again.

When we enter the house I immediately give one of the maids Kai's suitcase and tell her to bring it up to my bedroom. She rushes up the stairs as Kai and I make our way to the dining room. The food is already waiting for the both of us, and of course Soldier, and we sit down and start digging in.

"How long did it take you to build this house?" Kai asked as he shoved mashed potatoes in his mouth.

"I never built it, it was apparently Jewels' house before and so when he passed and I took over, I got everything that was his transferred to my name," I simply explained.

He chuckled humorlessly, "Your brother has a nice taste in houses," he sighed.

"And I love it," I giggled.

The rest of dinner rolled by like that, with him and I asking each other questions about the most random things, and me telling him how good of a boy Soldier's been. He even bought Soldier some doggy toys which he wouldn't stop going crazy about. It had reminded me of how much I missed seeing this part of Kai, the part where he wasn't so bad and dangerous but instead vulnerable.

After dinner Kai and I went up to my bedroom so he could sleep as soon as possible. We took the elevator to the fourth floor with Soldier by our side and into my bedroom. My bedroom looked kind of different from my room at Kai's house but that's because this one holds a lot more space in it since it's the master bedroom. Everything is either white, beige, or grey. It's a soft color combination and it's matching perfectly with the current weather.

"We're sleeping in the same room?" Kai asked a little shocked.

I ignored his question and instead went into my walk-in closet and got changed into a long shirt with shorts. I walked out of the closet to see Kai had already changed into his pajamas and was sprawled about the bed, sniffing my bed sheets.

"You're weird," I giggled playfully as I crawled onto the bed.

"And you smell like vanilla," he admitted breathlessly.

I chuckled and slid under the covers with him and he immediately grabbed onto my waist to pull me into his chest. My body was facing the ceiling while his was facing me and so he snuggled his face into my neck which made me laugh a little.

"What's funny?" He asked tiredly.

"It tickles," I whispered into the dark.

He let out a hum and I started running my hands through his hair as he fell asleep.

"Goodnight princess."

"Goodnight Finnels."

I felt a weight on my waist as I slowly started to wake up. The soft light of the sun illuminated the room and woke me to a peaceful morning. The birds singing their songs as the scent of cinnamon had filled my nostrils and brought me back to reality.

I slowly turned on my side to see Kai sleeping peacefully in his all natural Godly like state. Pieces of his hair covered his eyes and I couldn't help but brush them away. My finger tips trailed down his face and traced over one of his many tattoos until they stopped on one particular name.

Beatrice.

I traced the font of the letters and admired how much detail was put into the tattoo. It was very beautiful and I wondered who this mysterious 'Beatrice' may be. I have to remind myself to ask Kai about that later on.

I looked over Kai's sleeping body to see that we had an hour and a half until we had to get to school, but some part of me didn't want to leave this position. I guess I missed having Kai waking up next to me every morning and I just wanted to take in our position. Our legs are tangled together, his arm is on my waist, and both of my own hands are cupping his beautifully chiseled face. Our chests were pressed together and I felt the familiar sensation of warmth engulf my body. It was something I had experienced for awhile but every time I woke up it always felt like the first time.

"Kai," I whispered. Nothing.

"Kai?" I nudged a little more. Nothing.

I figured Kai wouldn't wake up any time soon, so I turned over on my side and woke up my good boy.

"Soldier baby, come up here and wake Kai up," I whispered to Soldier. He slowly got up and stretched his limbs before jumping on to the bed and nudging Kai with his nose.

After he didn't wake up for awhile Soldier started licking his ear which made Kai wake up and push him away, "Soldier what the hell," he whispered in a hoarse voice.

"C'mon sleeping beauty, school exists," I said as I got up from the bed and to the bathroom.

"I don't wanna go," he whined.

"Ok fine, don't go then," I shrugged my shoulders.

Kai closed his eyes and looked as if he was thinking about something, until he finally sat up against the head board and played with Soldier.

"What changed your mind?" I smirked.

"I'm afraid you might kill me if I don't go," He said nervously.

I giggled but soon turned serious, "Your goddamn right I will."

After I had taken a shower Kai had trudged in after me and I walked to my closet for an outfit to wear. When I had entered it I noticed a portion of my closet was filled with Kai's clothes, but most of them were just blank colors. No reds, no yellows, no orange, just white, grey, and black. I was curious on why he doesn't have any color but quickly pulled my outfit and my white converse.

I tied my hair up into a messy bun and let some tassels fall over my face and applied chapstick. I grabbed my school bag and made sure everything was inside before Soldier and I went down stairs for breakfast. I figured Kai already knew where the dining room was so I didn't worry about him trying to find his way around.

Mid way into my breakfast, Kai slumped into the chair across from me and started digging into his breakfast like there was no tomorrow. I let Soldier run around in the back yard for awhile as Kai finished his breakfast and I grabbed our packed lunches from the chef. When Soldier had come back in he was filthy with dirt covering his fur and I sighed at the thought that came to mind.

"Linda!" I called throughout the house.

A few seconds later the sweet Asian lady came down the stairs with a warm smile, "Yes miss?"

"Dia, Linda, please call me Dia. But we have to run to school and I don't have time to give Soldier a bath today. Do you mind taking him to the groomers please?" I asked innocently.

"Of course, I'll take him as soon as they open," she beamed.

"Thank you." I bent down to be eye level with Soldier and booped his nose, "You're not coming to school today buddy. You're filthy," I scolded.

He barked in protest and I shook my head, "You're going to the groomers, now be a good boy and you can get your treats," I bribed. He whimpered a little before putting his paw in mine.

Kai and I went down to the garage and I walked over to the Harley, "Can you ride?" I smirked.

"Can I ride? Can you ride?" He taunted.

I rolled my eyes and tossed him the keys. I got on behind him and we sped out of the underground garage and out to the school.

The satisfying sound of the motorcycle engine rang through my ears as I thought about my schedule for today. The gang has been smooth and nothing has gone wrong, yet. Everything is running swiftly and profits are the same, I just hope that it stays like that, or maybe even increases while we look for this guy.

I feel the wind picking up as Kai revvs on the engine and speeds up, going a whopping 80mph on a forty-five mph highway. My grip on him tightens and I can feel my bun whipping out of place but I didn't care, the only thing that was on my mind right now is how stupid I was of not considering Kai's stability with his lack of sleep. I cared if we were going to crash because of how tired he was yesterday, and now I totally regret letting him ride my goddamn Harley.

A few minutes later we safely make it to school and I jump off immediately. Students were watching us get off of the Harley and I'm pretty sure rumors would even stir up soon, but I'm just glad that we got to make it to school in one piece. I untie my bun and rearrange it the same way I had this morning, and walk up to the school with Kai by my side.

Before we make it to class, I pull him into the janitors closet and lock it behind us.

"What are you doing?" Kai asked troubled.

"How did you sleep? I know I should've asked during breakfast but with Soldier and all I guess I had forgotten about your well being for a second and I'm sorry for that but-"

"Breathe," I hear Kai softly say. I take a deep breath in and he continues, "I slept amazing last night because of you, thank you," he said gratefully.

I let out a sigh, "So you're not going to be sleepy all day?" I asked unsure.

"I might sleep in some classes, but not all day," Kai joked.

I rolled my eyes and exited the janitors closet just as the bell rang.
