There are a lot of things in this world that can get your heart racing.
A thrill of a roller coaster ride.
An adrenaline to fight.
Meeting up with your crush.
When reality slaps you in the face and you realize that you're about to die.
Getting dragged around by a chimpanzee by your foot.
But in that moment, I made a newfound discovery and added something on the bottom of that list.
Your date meeting your opponent from a fight that he forbidden you to take any part of and possibly figuring out that you are fighting for the money to help him with his mother's medications.
Yeah. FML.
"Who. The. Fuck. Are. You." Adam gritted out once again, already on his feet and a step behind me. The guy smirked at him.
"Oh, does the wittle fighter has a boyfriend?" I anxiously watched as they glared at each other, switching my stare back and forth between them.
"Well, this boyfriend is going to kick your ass if you don't start running." Adam growled lowly so that no one else can hear him. My breath got caught in my throat as the words left his mouth.
Come on, Case. It's not the time for acting like a school girl fangirling over her crush.
Dammit. Wasn't there some sort of code against acknowledging your ex-competitor in public?
"Okay, let's take this outside, shall we?" I suggested slowly and The scowl tattooed guy shot me a warning glance, challenging me to scurry off before turning and exiting the small fast food restaurant with some guy tailing him.
I immediately turned to Adam and tried to calm him down before warning him of what's about to go down.
"I'll explain everything later. He's some dude I fought and he lost against me. He's probably going to ask for another fist fight so whatever happens, don't cut in and take any hits." I told him in a rush. He looked like he was about to object but I shot him a look before leading him outside the restaurant.
Why now, God? Why must it be today of all days? I just want to go home, lock this day in 'best memory' box and sleep on it.
The more that I thought about all this, the more agitated I felt towards this guy for interrupting our date. Motherfucker. I dressed up for this and he's not going to ruin it just because he's too much of a wimp to accept the fact that he lost against me.
I know I'm a girl and all, but bro, when a girl lands you on your ass in a competition, go be a smart guy and start running the other way cause the chances of that being a coincidence or a beginner's luck is as low as your IQ.
I am not letting this bastard get the better of my night.
It was dark outside as I turned around, searching for the asshole that started this in the first place so that I can beat the crap out of him.
I finally caught sight of him in the mouth of an alley and I stalked towards him. Who the fuck does he think he is, trying to ruin a perfect date night because of his fucked up ego?
"Where's your friend?" I snapped irritably as I looked around. A missing guy is never good.
"None of your Goddamn business." He snapped back and I reeled back a bit the second his hand raised in its own accord and he seemed to realize it as he lower it down. Fear spiked in me. There is something terribly wrong with this dude. Something frightening.
I kept my face detached of any emotions while I stared blankly at him. I am not going to show him any weakness.
"You know, girly. I held back too much on you. If it weren't for you being a girl, I would've still had a chance in pocketing that 10 grand." He started his pointless ranting and I set my ear on lala mode. In through the right ear, out through the left ear.
I watched him with glazed eyes and when he finally stopped, I finally tuned in on what he's going to say. I swear, if he's going to jump into one of those one more time again, I'm going to bash his head to the wall without waiting for an explanation.
"What do you want?" I snapped at him, still aggravated by the fact that he's interrupting my night with his baboon face appearing in my line of sight.
He scowled at me. Nothing new there. "I want a Goddamn rematch. You obviously cheated." I sneaked a discreet glance to where Adam was standing, watching us like a hawk but fortunately, out of earshot.
"What happened in the arena, stays in the arena. I don't want to see you anywhere in my life ever again and even if we cross paths, we have never met and complete strangers to each other." I snarled at him.
"And who the fuck are you to order me around?"
"Hmm, let's see. Oh, that's right! I'm the bitch that landed you on your poor excuse of an ass." I replied in a snarky tone, causing him to scoff and look at me like I just insulted his puppy.
"Who the fuck calls themselves a bitch anyway? Are you fucking retarded?" He growled under his breath but I caught every word, raising an eyebrow in amusement.
"I call myself a bitch because I don't need side-hoes like you running around calling me one and you can call me a retard all you want because we all know who's fucked up in the head here." I smirked.
He, however, looked nowhere as amused as I was in that moment.
"You fucking cheated. I gave you a pass-" I groaned out loud before sharply throwing a hard punch onto his side, causing him to double over with his hand clutched to the spot.
"I'm growing real sick of your shit talking about the female race. Dude, open your damned eyes. This girl, a female at that, kicked your ass and it wasn't some circus trick so you better shut your trap before I put those heels my momma bought me into some good use and shove them down your throat." I gnarled lowly, bending down to be heard over his loud groans.
Out of nowhere, he raised his head abruptly and head butted me. I stumbled back and groaned out in surprise and in the midst of my shock, he took it as an advantage as he charged at me and successfully knocking me down, all the air being knocked out of my lungs as I gasped.
My eyes locked onto the menacing pair of eyes on top of me.
It was an extremely compromising position and I could feel my hands tingle, itching to throw him off me and I didn't need to be signaled twice as my right hand flew onto his left shoulder and grabbed his shirt only to yank him sideways while raising my left hip abruptly, successfully throwing him off.
He had a dazed look on his face and I felt arms, slipping beneath my arms and gently pulling me onto my feet and bringing me to their chest. Out of instincts, I brought up my arm, ready to elbow the guy but immediately lowered it when I heard Adam's voice.
"Are you okay?"
I nodded mutely as we watched the man struggle to catch his breath. He managed to stand up on his own feet, staggering a bit before standing up and finally focused his piercing stare on us and it was like watching a sardonic movie as I watched a psychopathic grin appear on his face.
"You know Casey, I don't see what has got the boss so fascinated about you. You're just a whiny spoiled bitch." I stiffened at his words. It surely wasn't the insult though.
Upon hearing my nickname, Adam swiftly shifted his body so that he was shielding me from the man's gaze. "Who are you?" He gritted out for the third time that night and this time, I felt my whole body go rigid. Who was this man and how the hell did he know my name?
The stranger gave out a humorless laugh. "No one in particular. I mean, a drunk truck driver isn't worth remembering, right Casey? Even if they killed you beloved brother, no?"
I felt all the air being sucked out of me and a hollow feeling resided in my being at the mention of my brother. I stared at the man past Adam's built. He couldn't be implying what I think he's implying, could he? He couldn't be.
"What? Aren't you going to greet the truck driver and punch him for killing your brother? Your Bryant, Cassandra? Oh wait, you just did." He wheezed out sarcastically as he nursed the spot where I landed the punch on him.
My conscience, the one that loves violence was beyond delighted at the sight of him being in pain and was grinning ear to ear but the vengeful side of me, the one that has been waiting for this moment.
The one that has waited patiently to take out all the anger and pain and sadness away on someone, the one that wanted to do something about my brother's death was screaming at me to drop everything and beat the shit out of him for inflicting all the pain onto the young girl that used to be me.
I stared at him silently, blocking everything out and the only thing running through my head is that the man in front of me killed my brother.
And with that single thought, I dropped everything, listening to the devil that was whispering in my ear, and ran towards the man's awaiting arms while he grinned at my cry of anger.
