âAh, Xiao Xia is here. Have a seat, please. Boss Shu had just called and let me know that you are a rare talent. It was partly my overlook that you had remained undiscovered for so long. In addition to making you a permanent worker today, Boss Shu also made an exception and making you a team lead,â said the head of Human Resource. Anyone with half a brain would be able to see that Shu Yan had an eye for Xia Ruo now and she would likely be going up and up from this point forward. Even if they werenât going to be friends, they should at least have an amicable relationship.
âTeam lead?â Xia Ruo was a little dazed. There was a total of three team leads in Designs. If she was going to be one, thenâ¦â¦
âThis is the contract for a permanent worker. You can take a look at it and sign here if you donât have any questions. And, have Lin Shanshan come here for a second on your way back.â
As smart as Xia Ruo was, she immediately had it figured out. Long story short, she had taken over Lin Shanshanâs spot. The business scene is like the battlefield. She did not feel guilty taking over Lin Shanshanâs spot. She trusted that Lin Shanshan would have no hesitation firing her if only she could.
Xia Ruo was nervous on her way there but she had her head held high on her way out.
Seeing that Xia Ruo had returned, Lin Shanshan chuckled lightly and said, âDonât feel bad. Teacher Wang has always had an eye for you. I trust that all you need to do is to go cry to her and she will pull some strings for you again.ân/o/vel/b//in dot c//om
Lin Shanshanâs statement was very loaded. Everybody looked over at Xia Ruo. They didnât know that Xia Ruo needed to have strings pulled even for just an intern position. No wonder she still hasnât become a permanent hire after three months.
Xia Ruo was going to retort but suddenly realized that that was very pointless. âHR said to have you to head over there.â
âWhat do they want to talk to me about?â Lin Shanshanâs hand that was holding a document paused in midair.
âThey are going to promote you, of course. What else could it be? Isnât there an assistant manager position opening above you?â said a female colleague with a smile.
She was one of the permanent persons on their team and also Lin Shanshanâs minion. If Lin Shanshan said left, she would never say right. Her work was mediocre but her ability to fawn was top notch.
âShush. Probably some other personnel matter.â Lin Shanshan had a pretty good idea of her own academic background and ability. She was nowhere close to that of the other two team leads. She would not make assistant manager. She figured they might want to her look for a new intern now that Xia Ruo was fired.
As soon as Lin Shanshan had stepped away, the minion quickly turned toward Xia Ruo and said, âHey, why arenât you packing up yet?â
Xia Ruo gave her a look and slowly started packing up.
âAre you really going to go, Xia Ruo?â The other intern looked at Xia Ruo, not wanting her to leave.
âMmm.â She was going, but not leaving. Just moving to a different desk.
After a long while, Lin Shanshan returned angrily. Giving Xia Ruo a gloomy look, she said, âYouâve talked to Boss Shu?â
âThatâs right.â
âWhy did you turn in your drafts behind my back? You went over my head? Did you know that that is against company policy?â asked Lin Shanshan while gritting her teeth.
âThe policy also stated with the exception of special circumstances. Do you think that that would apply here?â said Xia Ruo nonchalantly.
Lin Shanshanâs lips trembled. âYou go and tell Boss Shu right now that we have no conflicts sand that it was all a misunderstanding.â
âLin Shanshan, you know best whether there are any misunderstandings. You had been holding me back and did everything within your power to get me to leave over some minor incident back in school. And now you are asking me to lie to Boss Shu for you? Are you crazy or am I just stupid?â
Everybody in the office were looking at the both of them. They had it figured out by now. Xia Ruo wasnât the one leaving; Lin Shanshan was.
Lin Shanshan was fired and Xia Ruo was taking over her position as the new team lead.
The minion who had just talked down to Xia Ruo had an awful look on her. Just a while earlier she was still âSister Shanshan thisâ and âSister Shanshan thatâ. Now she wouldnât even see her out. She came over enthusiastically to help Xia Ruo move her stuff over to Lin Shanshanâs old spot.
âLet me. Let me. You donât need to do this yourself.â
Xia Ruo frowned a little. She needed a talk with Human Resource that she did not need someone like her on her team. Whether they were going to transfer or fire her, that would be their decision.
She hadnât sat down for very long before the phone rang. It was a call from Shu Yan, telling her to attend a meeting with the other team leads and their manager.
