Chapter 18: Chapter 17 ~ Knowledge

Penny’s P.O.V

I paced in my office thinking about Jay and Cameron; they were taken from right under my nose, in my territory. I knew I should’ve gone with Alpha Sage and the other wolves to help.

If I’d gone then maybe, just maybe Jay and Cameron would be safe and here with the rest of us, I thought to myself. Ever since the note had been recovered from the open space where we believe they were taken from everyone has been on high alert.

I shivered just thinking about what the note read;

Dear Alphas,

I apologise for having taken Jay away from you but it was necessary. You see if Jay was to stay with you the war that is fast approaching would put us rouges at a disadvantage, and so to stop that from happening we have taken Jay. Where she’ll remain with us until this is all over.

I shivered again just thinking about it. Thinking that I was cold Leon wrapped me in his arms stopping me from pacing. I was even more confused as to why Cameron had been taken along with Jay. The note hadn’t given any answers but more questions.

We have also got her mate Cameron here with us to keep her company so you don’t need to worry about her being alone. I am extremely pleased that I have also managed to bag the person that will help her to use her powers to the max. When the war is over I may release them back into your care, but then I may not. I could kill them to ensure our victory remains intact.

~ S

The note just didn’t make any sense! Well the second part didn’t. What did ‘S’ mean by Cameron being the person to help Jay use her powers? I could understand why he was the person as he is her mate after all, but how can he help her? I believe it was time to do some research.

I wiggled out of Leon’s embrace and turned to face the Alphas, their mates, the triplets and the beta from Cameron’s pack, I think his name is Adam.

“We need to sort out a plan.” I announced. At the sound of my voice everyone in the room perked up. “We need to figure out this note and what ‘S’ is talking about.” I looked over their faces. The Alphas and their mates all shared the same facial expression, one of concern and concentration; the triplets just looked devastated missing their friend, partner in crime, sister and Adam just looked stressed out. He’s had to take over temporary command of the pack as his Alpha is missing and by the looks of things he is barely coping. I don’t think he is used to having so much responsibility.

“What are you suggesting Penny?” Alpha Sage asked.

“We need to have two different teams. One team to do some research on what the note revealed and another team to try and track down Jay and Cameron and of course to come up with an attack plan.”

Everyone was silent as they absorbed my words.

“I would like to be a part of the attack team.” Alpha Sage said with determination in his voice, the other male Alphas agreed along with the triplets and Adam.

“I can do the research on the note.” Luna Holly smiled at me getting up from her chair and heading towards the door that leads to the library.

“We can help you.” The other Luna’s agreed and quickly followed after her.

I turned to face Leon who was smiling down at me. “What team are you going to be a part of?”

“I will do whatever you want me to do as long as I’m with you,” he said kissing my forehead. I blushed.

“I was thinking that I will be in both. That way I can keep an eye on everyone and relay information between the two teams.”

“Then I will – “Leon was cut off by Jake shouting “Jay!” Everyone stopped what they were doing and looked up at him startled.

“Jay’s not-“Josh went to say but Jake quickly shut him up.

“I can hear her through the link,” he grinned. “But it’s very faint.”

“Well what is she saying?!” James insisted with a grin.

“She’s asking if anyone can hear her.” He answered.

“Jay?”

Silence.

“Don’t worry help is on the way.” More silence.

“Josh what is going on?” I demanded.

“I don’t know,” he sighed. “I can’t hear her anymore and I don’t know if she heard my message.” He sounded defeated.

"It’s okay Josh,” Leon said patting him on the shoulder, “you did your best.”

Josh grunted.

The emotions in the room improved knowing that Jay and Cameron were still alive and they were okay, for now anyway. A new wave of determination set in as everyone got back to work.

Alpha Sage rose from his chair, “I’m going to take some of the best trackers to see if they can pick up a scent for us to follow.” He said and left the room without another word.

I stood in the middle of the room not really doing anything so to make myself useful I decided I’d go check in with the Luna’s to see if they have found out anything about what was said in the note. I started to head towards the door when Leon stopped me.

“Where are you going?”

“I’m going to go and check in with the Luna’s to see if they have got any information for us.” I smiled. “You can stay here and plan with the big boys if you want.”

His face lit up, “okay, tell me if they find out anything.” He pecked me on the lips leaving me wanting more before he headed back to the guys around the table. I watched as the guys brought him up to speed. Happy with what I was hearing I left heading towards the library.

I really hope they have got something for me so we can quickly put this riddle behind us and put more of our focus on the rescue plan.

All I could hear was the sound of metal keys clanking against the metal lock of our cell door and the sound of my heart pounding in my chest. I was pretty sure that Cameron could hear it as he pulled me closer to him. Tingles shot throw me but I pushed the feeling away, now was not the time to start thinking of inappropriate thoughts.

A loud click echoed around the room. The lock had been unlocked. I watched with wide eyes as the handle slowly turned and the door creaked open. It was as if the person behind the door was trying to play with us, freak us out. It was definitely working in my opinion. The door was now fully opened and in the door way stood, our capturer, the leader of the rouges and possibly the person that was going to end our lives.

“I see you two are wide awake.” He said stepping into the room and closing the door behind him. “I was concerned that you were never going to wake up.  We may have used more than the recommended amount of tranquilizer on you both.” He smirked.

I don’t see how he could possibly find this funny; he could have killed us both! As if sensing my thoughts Cameron growled, “You could’ve killed us!”

The man didn’t respond he just stood before us. As the conversation had ceased and no one was putting forward anything I took the time to study this man. He was fairly tall probably only a bit taller than Cameron by an inch or two, beneath his plain white t-shirt you could see that this dude was ripped with muscles, his black hair was cut close to his head, his eyes are the darkest of browns almost appearing as if they were black and his nose was neither too big or too small for his well-defined face. He was quite good looking but in the situation we were in it made him ugly, plus he didn’t have anything on Cameron. He was wearing black trousers, black combat boots, a plain white t-shirt with a black jacket over the top and a claw on a piece of string was hanging down his chest. My eyes roamed over his appearance once more, my gaze stopped when I met his eyes and in those eyes I saw amusement.

“Done checking me out?”

Cameron’s body started to shake and his grip on me tightened. If his temper continued to get the better of him we’re going to have one angry ass alpha on our hands. I used my free hand to calm him down by making small circular patterns on his chest. The gesture seemed to have been working as his body was shaking less violently and the growl in his throat became quiet, he began to purr.

A cough brought me out of Cameron and I’s little world.

“If you don’t mind could you possibly not do that when I am in your presence?” Our capturer asked. My cheeks started to burn from the blush that was creeping up my neck, without embarrassing myself further, I removed my hand from Cameron’s chest and leaned away from him slightly. “That’s much better.”

“So… What happens now?” I asked.

“All you have to do now is stay here.”

“It’s not like we have a choice, now is it?” Cameron piped up. He had a frown on his face.

“No not really.” He smirked. We all went silent. “Oh, where are my manners? My name is Sebastian but if you wish you can call me Seb.”

“I would say it’s nice to meet you, but then I’d be lying.” I sneered.

Seb laughed. “You amuse me Jay. It’s a shame that we met under these circumstances, I’m sure we would’ve been great friends.” I don’t know if he was being serious or if he was being sarcastic.

“Not likely.”

“It’s a shame you think like that Jay.” He almost sounded disappointed, sad even. “But I’m sure if we weren’t friends we would’ve been great allies.”

“What do you mean by that?”

"If you haven’t figured it out already, my pack of rouges are stronger than your average rouges, am I right?” I couldn’t argue with him on that. When I was fighting them in the clearing I could tell they weren’t your average rouges. They were smarter, they were tactical and they were not wolf like. When rouges are banished or even choose to leave their packs the wolf inside of the human slowly starts to take over the body to become the animal they really are. Wolves are pack animals; they like to be with others of their kind. Take that away and you get an out of control animal and the rouges in the clearing were not like that. Even if these rouges are called a pack they are not really a pack as there are is no leadership, no ranks amongst them which a wolf needs. All wolves need an Alpha to lead them. So why doesn’t that apply to these rouges?

I nodded my head. “I’ve been thinking about that.”

“How is that possible?” Cameron voiced my own question.

“I’m glad you asked that question but I can’t answer that right now.”

“Can’t or won’t?” I snapped growling. I was growing irritated by his vague answers and this game he seemed to be playing.

“They are the same thing, no?”

“What answers can you give us?” Cameron asked.

“I admit I can’t reveal much to you now otherwise I will be breaking the plan, however, I can tell you why and how Cameron can help you enhance your powers Jay.”

“Why would you tell us that?” I was excited and I’m sure they could hear it in my voice. If Seb told us how I can enhance my powers we could use that against him to get out of here!

He sat down on a chair with a thoughtful expression. His brows knitted together and his eyes glazed over as if he was in a world of his own. He quickly snapped out of his trance and returned his gaze to us, giving us his full attention.

“I believe that if we train you to use your powers to their full potential then you can help us to win this war.”

Cameron didn’t look convinced. “What makes you think we’ll help you?”

“I have a couple of reasons. Firstly, you need me to help you and secondly your friends and family will die if you do not co-operate.” Seb replied with a serious expression. He’s not joking around with us.

I was stunned into silence. No matter what I decided to do my friends and family would be killed.  I sighed. “Okay then, tell us everything.” Cameron opened his mouth to protest but I quickly shut him up. “No Cameron. There’s nothing else we can do.”

I opened the thick oak wood doors and walked into our grand library. It was a fairly large room with book shelves covering all the walls and more bookshelves creating aisles through the room, all of the shelves were filled to the brim with books leaving no spaces. In the middle of the room there’s a space dedicated to computers, there are four of them on a round table. I surveyed the library to find that the Luna’s were spread around the room. I found Luna Holly sat at a table to my right with books scattered all over it. Holly looked up from the book that she had her nose in and smiled at me.

“Have you managed to find anything yet?” I asked sitting in the chair that was next to her.

“I think I might have found something.”

“It’s better than nothing.”

“Okay, well as you can see I’ve looked through a number of books. All of these books,” she gestured to the books over the table, “don’t have much on it and very little detail. However, this book here has more information.”

“What does it say?” I asked eagerly.

“From what I’ve read so far it says that werewolves like Jay only come around when great danger or a war is about to break out and this book says that it hasn’t happened very often. Not including Jay there were only seven others, now that Jay’s here there are eight. The surprising thing is that over half of them only came around when we hit the twenty-first century.”

“So basically when people started looking to solve everything with violence?”

“Yeah, that sounds about right. In some of the other books they have all said that each of the ‘Primes’ had different powers, fire, water, earth, air, lightning basically everything to do with natural elements. Looking at this fire was the first element to be used which means that the elements have completed a full cycle and that is how Jay is able to control fire.”

"What are ‘Primes’?” I asked before Holly carried on.

“A ‘Prime’ is what Jay is a powerful being. Can I continue?”

“Oh I’m sorry, continue.”

“As I was about to say just like the power the gender of the Prime varied as well, it doesn’t say how the gender was picked. I guess it’s just like picking a name out of a hat.” She turned over the page. “The power would only reveal it’s self once the Prime had found their mate and once it has been revealed it only fade with death. In these cases they all accepted each other and their full powers were accessed or enhanced. Now fortunately in Jay’s situation it has some knowledge into what happens if a mate rejects their mate being the Prime or not.”

“Jay wouldn’t be able to access her full powers?”

“You would’ve thought that but that’s not the only thing that would happen. All of the Primes are from the same family, so Jay’s ancestors were Primes well some of them were anyway. Cameron rejected Jay so they she won’t be able to produce any offspring, therefore there will be no more Primes and if that happens there will be no one in the close or distant future to protect us. This leads me onto my next point. The only way for Jay to enhance her powers is to bear the mark of her mate and for them to have fully mated.”

“I was never told any of this when the elders told me I had to keep an eye on her. They told me that she was the key to this war but they didn’t how. When she shifted for the first time and she first used fire I went straight for the books but I had no idea what I was looking for.”

“The elders should’ve told you what Jay was and some background information in my opinion so you wouldn’t have been so in the dark about it.”

“Thank you Holly.” I smiled. “When Jay hears about this she is not going to be happy about it.”

Holly laughed. “Oh I know, if only we could see her face when that happens.” My laughter soon joined in with Holly’s echoing around the library.

“I have to get down and dirty with him?!” I screeched. Seb had his hands over his ears and Cameron was wearing his signature smirk. “You can wipe that smirk off your face buddy boy!”
