Chapter 929:
Her aggressive tone made Conroy angry. âI did exactly as you said. Eileen didnât care at all. What more could I do? Stop blaming me for everything!â
âIâm just anxious, alright?â Gianna responded. âEverything Iâm doing is for Jessicaâs future! Sheâs my daughter, right? If she inherits the Vazquez familyâs fortune, youâll gain a lot from it too!â Giannaâs frustration bubbled over. âHow have you been raising Jessica all these years? Every time she sees me, she gives me attitude. She doesnât respect me as her mother at all!â
Conroy sat on the sofa, his head bowed, listening to her scolding in silence.
âIâm trying to do right by you and your daughter, but what do I get in return? One doesnât even acknowledge me, and the other canât get anything right without me stepping in!â Giannaâs voice cracked with hurt as tears welled up in her eyes.
âI donât say anything bad about you to Jessica. Itâs just that Jessica isnât close to you because you werenât the one who raised her. Spend more time with her, and things will smooth over. Why bring this up now?â Conroy sighed, pulling a cigarette and a lighter from his packet, along with the two business cards.
Gianna picked up the business cards. âDo you have these? The Byrd family? The Perry family?â
Conroy told Gianna about his meeting with Kamila. Before he could finish, Gianna erupted again.
âHow can you be so dense? Right after you told Bryan Eileen was the Aston familyâs child, Mrs. Aston sought you out. Sheâs clearly ready to make a move. She values your help, since she gave you these contacts. What are you waiting for? Go to the Byrd family!â
Mâáµ£â ᵤâdââââ áµ¢â gââââáµ¥âââ.ð¸ââ Before Conroy could catch his breath, Giannaâs scolding quickly propelled him out of the ward.
Conroy might not have been a great person, but he sure knew how to pick a good restaurant. The two dishes Bryan had packed were Eileenâs favorites, and she ate with relish as she watched him prepare food for Gabriela.
Bryan had set up a cozy little kitchen in the lounge, and by noon, he was cooking for Gabriela. As he cooked, Bryan glanced back at Eileen, who was enjoying her meal.
âDonât you want to discuss the matter with your grandmother?â Bryan asked.
Eileen shook her head, a slight smirk on her lips. âYouâve seen Conroy for what he is, havenât you? When it comes down to it, heâs just a spineless idiot. He can act tough when Gianna has his back, but on his own, heâs nothing. I figure if I turn him down this time, he and Gianna will have a fight when he gets back.â
She was still undecided about whether to pay to keep Dottieâs matter under wraps, but for now, she was content to let Gianna and Conroy bicker while she mulled it over.
Bryan served her a plate of spaghetti and then let Gabriela finish the rest before feeding it to her.
The open window let the mouthwatering aroma of spaghetti waft through the room. Eileen, after taking a bite, leaned back with a satisfied sigh.
âMaybe we should just quit and open a little restaurant. You could be a full-time chef.â
The idea was absurd. They would never leave their business, which was worth hundreds of millions of dollars, just to cook for people. Bryan gave her a sideways glance.
âWe would need a successor first if we were to quit.â
