Chapter 862:
Conroy was at a loss for words, but he wasnât about to take three tubes of blood from his precious daughter.
He rolled up his sleeves and settled onto the sofa.
âJust do it,â he said. âAnd tell Bryan itâs the blood of you and your parents.â
Early summer had arrived, but Alverton still clung to its chill, especially in the mornings.
Eileen, bundled in a wool overcoat, huddled in the backseat, shivering and drowsy, her head resting on Bryanâs shoulder.
The car came to an abrupt halt. Raymond lowered the back window, and Jessica hurried over.
Jessicaâs view was limited; she could only make out Bryanâs form and a glimpse of Eileenâs hair, but she couldnât see Eileenâs position in the car.
Gabriela, still nestled in Bryanâs arms, waved excitedly, further obscuring Jessicaâs view.
Jessica pulled three tubes of blood from her bag.
âThis is the blood from my parents and me, Mr. Dawson. Please let me know the results as soon as you can after the test.â
âOkay,â Bryan replied, taking the tubes and glancing at her smooth arms, devoid of any needle marks.
It was freezing outside, but Jessica was only wearing a sleeveless dress. She clearly wasnât bothered by the cold.
âSo⦠can we grab lunch together?â Jessica said, looking at Bryan with hopeful eyes.
Bryan put the blood samples in the carâs glove box, not even looking up.
âSorry, but no. Iâve got work to do.â
He gave Raymond a look, and Raymond rolled up the window.
Raymond offered Jessica an apologetic smile as he did that.
The car pulled into the underground parking. Bryan stared at the blood samples and then said, âLater, take these to the hospital. Have them check if itâs even human blood.â
Raymond was stunned.
âHow could it not be human blood?â
âTheyâre trying to trick me, so theyâre no better than animals,â Bryan scoffed.
Raymond finally understood Bryanâs intentions. âMr. Dawson, you tricked them into giving blood for a paternity test, so of course theyâll fight back.â
But Bryanâs eyes grew cold, and Raymond felt a chill run down his spine, rendering him incapable of finishing his sentence.
Raymond shivered. âNever mind. Weâre at the company. We can leave the car here. Iâll take a cab to the hospital.â
He unbuckled his seatbelt and quickly exited the car. It was quiet now, except for Eileenâs breathing and the sound of Gabriela playing with her toy.
âGo ahead and laugh if you want,â Bryan suddenly said.
Eileen burst out laughing, burying her face in his arms. âYouâre actually right. They canât be reasoned with, so you have no choice but to trick them.â
