Chapter 809:
âItâs already midnight.â Bryanâs voice, soft but firm, filtered through the crack in the door. âYou should get some rest now. Make the phone calls tomorrow.â
Eileen, still riding the high of catching the adulterer, felt as alert as if she had just had her morning coffee. She wasnât sleepy at all, but she accepted Bryanâs advice, powered off her phone, and retreated to her room. Yet, despite her best efforts to drift into sleep, she tossed and turned restlessly.
By the time morning rolled around, the moment her eyes fluttered open, Eileen called Ruby. Bailee and Huey had packed up and moved out of the Baker family home, with Ruby taking up residence just across the street from their place. Between their hectic work schedules, Ruby had slipped seamlessly into the role of their chef and housekeeper.
Having lived with them before, Ruby knew the drill and had planned accordingly. She always just left after cleaning the table.
Ruby sighed, her concern hanging heavy in the air. âBaileeâs been married all this time, and still no sign of a baby. Iâve asked her more than once, and she tells me she hasnât used protection. Do you think something might be wrong with her or Hueyâs health?â
âTheyâre both swamped with work. Maybe itâs just the stress and the fact theyâve been married for so long. Maybe you should give them a little more time,â Eileen replied, thinking perhaps Bailee and Huey were still enjoying their honeymoon phase, but she didnât want Ruby to know that.
Ruby continued, âBut Iâm not getting any younger. You can still help take care of the kids now. In the future, how will I manage that?â After a pause, Ruby asked, âDo you want to have another child? If you do, even if you want to stay in Aluerton, Iâll go there and help out.â
Eileen quickly replied, âNo! If you want to visit Alverton, youâre more than welcome to come, but Iâm not having a baby.â
Every tale finds a home at gⱯlnÏνð®âsâ¤com Ruby, seeing Eileenâs resistance, sighed. âThen Iâll just encourage Bailee to have a baby.â
Eileen couldnât help but chuckle.
After a while, they hung up the phone, and Eileen called Roderick next. The moment Roderick answered, Eileen could tell he was outside. The wind howled in the background, but nothing could mask the happiness in his voice.
âEileen, what a surprise, calling me this early!â
âYes, Iâve been tied up in Alverton lately and havenât had the chance to get in touch with you. I just wanted to know how youâve been doing,â Eileen said, a smile tugging at her lips.
Roderick paused for a moment before replying, âIâve divorced Judie. The kidâs with me, and my mother is out, taking care of him for me. Judie⦠Iâll share the restaurantâs profits with her for the next six months, and then weâll go our separate ways completely.â
After all, Judie was the one who had caused the whole mess, and Denise had been left in the dark about it all. Later, when Eileen had arrived and pieced together what had happened, she couldnât bring herself to be too harsh and had asked Bryan to help Denise out of prison. As for Judie, she had returned the apartment and divorced Roderick.
âThe babyâs still young. He shouldnât have to grow up without his mother,â Eileen said softly.
âMy mother has been taking amazing care of him. Heâs chubby now, and the formula is doing wonders. Iâve hired someone to help out at the restaurant, and business is booming. Even with Judie taking half the profits, Iâm earning more than enough to support the kid and my mother. Donât worry.â
Roderick was quick to shift the conversation, not wanting to dwell on the topic of the baby. âHow about you? Howâs it going with reconnecting with your family? Also, will you ever come back?â
