Chapter 808:
She got up, pulled her down jacket tighter around her, and exited, carefully avoiding the glass shards on the floor. Conroy and Gianna shivered, watching Eileen leave.
âWhy did you suggest that?â Conroy frowned.
âAre you really going to hand over the company to her?â
âCanât you see whatâs going on? Sheâs only after the cash. Besides, the Vazquez family needs to build alliances, and what better way than through a strategic marriage? Weâll find her a suitable husband from a powerful family, and thatâll keep her in check. If she gets money and a wealthy man by her side, sheâll stop thinking about other things,â Gianna spoke with conviction, her body still trembling from the cold. As she finished, she led Conroy upstairs. âCome on, letâs find another room to get some rest. We need to visit Leyla tomorrow and make sure she doesnât catch wind of any of this.â
When Eileen returned, Bryan was still engrossed in work.
The moment she entered the study, he sensed that something was on her mind. He paused the video conference, removed his headphones, and folded his hands on the table, looking at her intently.
âHow did it go?â
âI caught them red-handed. Itâs Gianna,â Eileen said as she sat down across from him. âTheyâre trying to gaslight me, telling me to take the money and leave. They want me to just forget about the Vazquez familyâs fortune.â
Bryan raised an eyebrow. âAnd how did you respond?â
Eileen gave a sly smile. âOh, Iâm not going anywhere!â
I@te$t ¢#@pter$ In g@!novel$.c0m âOf course not!â Bryan nodded in agreement.
âBut then Gianna suggested I learn from her. She said once Iâm capable of running the company, sheâll hand the Vazquez family over to me.â Eileen extended her hand, her fingers tapping lightly on the table as she asked, âWhat do you think theyâre really up to?â
Bryan leaned back in his chair, stroking his chin thoughtfully.
After a moment, he said, âIf you want to play along with their game, go for it. But if youâre in a hurry, you could always drop the bombshell about the affair. Just remember, your grandmother is still entrenched in the Vazquez family. Stirring up too much trouble could put her in a difficult position.â He could clearly read her thoughts.
That was exactly what Eileen was thinking. She narrowed her eyes and gave him a smile.
âDonât you want to go back to Onaland?â
Bryan replied, âGrandmaâs been in good health lately. Jarred keeps me updated regularly. Sheâs been visiting the temple and spending time in the mountains. Even if I went back, I wouldnât be able to see her. I might as well stay here and let you have some fun. But I donât want to return.â
After all, Eileen had more relatives in Onaland than he did.
Since they had arrived here, they hadnât been in touch with Roderick. Who knew how he was handling things with Judie?
It seemed like returning wasnât an option just yet.
Retrieving her phone from her pocket, Eileen spun on her heels and walked out. âIâll make a few calls. You go ahead and get back to work.â
