Chapter 773:
âMs. Marshallââ Eileen began.
âEnough with the excuses. Either you clean up now or resign. And just so you know, the cleaning lady wonât be back for a month, so youâll be responsible for this task every morning.â With that, Jessica turned on her heel and walked away.
The moment Jessica was out of sight, Lenny approached Eileen and murmured, âYouâve snatched Miss Marshallâs task. Now sheâs targeting you.â
Eileen nodded, understanding dawning on her. âIs this how blatant workplace bullying can get?â
âItâs not always this direct, but here, no one dares challenge Miss Marshall. You either put up with it or resign. Complaining to the higher-ups wonât make a difference,â Lenny explained, glancing at the broom and mop. âI can lend a hand if you need it.â
Her offer was genuinely kind. With Jessicaâs hostility, Eileen would likely face company-wide isolation, and helping her might make Lenny a target as well.
âThereâs no need for you to assist me with this. Could you do me another favor instead?â Eileen murmured quietly into Lennyâs ear. Lenny stared at her in disbelief, her eyes widening.
âWhat are you talking about? Youâll have to cover the cost yourself that way.â
âOh, donât worry; it wonât be too expensive,â Eileen reassured her. âIf I take on the cleaning during my lunch break, it will count as overtime, so Jessica will end up paying me double my salary.â
However, Lenny was skeptical about the possibility of receiving double pay. âEileen, youâre being too naive about this. Miss Marshall willââ

When the afternoon work period began, Jessica made her rounds through the administrative department, only to find it impeccably clean. Her face contorted with fury.
âI donât believe youâll be able to maintain this for an entire month, Eileen!â
âMiss Marshall,â Savannah said, emerging from the office. She shot a quick glance at Lenny before guiding Jessica to the side to murmur something privately.
Seething with anger, Jessica stormed to the top floor. Without hesitation, she flung open Bryanâs office door. It banged against the stopper with a jarring noise, jolting Gabriela out of her sleep.
Gabriela lifted her arm and began to cry uncontrollably. Her large eyes, still rimmed with the red of disturbed sleep, quickly filled with tears. They soon began cascading down her cheeks.
Eileen, equally startled, quickly held Gabriela in her arms and began soothing her with gentle pats.
Jessica barreled into the room and positioned herself directly in front of Eileen, disregarding everything else. âEileen, how dare you bring in a cleaner?â
âMiss Marshall, could you at least try to speak civilly? Youâre scaring the child!â Eileen rose to her feet, maintaining a cautious distance from Jessica while holding Gabriela protectively.
But seeing that only Eileen and Gabriela were in the office, Jessica approached Eileen, her voice rising with anger. âStop pretending to care for the child! Answer my question!â
