Chapter 756:
When Conroy settled back into his chair, Jessica sat on the armrest, draped an arm around his neck, and said, âYou promised youâd always love and look after me, and Iâm holding you to that.â
âDonât worry,â Conroy assured her softly and patiently. âGo and call Eileen over.â
When Eileen learned that Conroy wanted to see her, she wasnât surprised in the slightest.
She set Gabriela down and exited Bryanâs office to find Conroy waiting by the corridor entrance. As she emerged from the office, Conroy gestured for her to approach. She quickly walked over and inquired, âMr. Finch, you wanted to see me?â
âI heard youâve taken on the role of caring for Mr. Dawsonâs daughter,â Conroyâs tone was neutral, neither particularly harsh nor friendly.
Eileen nodded and followed him into the dimly lit room, where Conroyâs expression was clearly visible. He looked serious.
âYou might not fully understand who Mr. Dawson is,â he began. âHe adores his daughter immensely. Should any mistakes occur under your watch, are you prepared to handle the consequences? Do you really think youâre up for this task?â Conroy continued, âYou should resign from this position.â
Eileen responded with conviction, âThe pay he offers is substantially higher than what an average executive department employee earns. With the extra income, I could significantly contribute to our familyâs finances.â
âContribute toâwhat would a few thousand really change?â Conroy almost voiced his thoughts aloud.
âIf my salary is seven or eight thousand a month, thatâs an extra ten thousand a year. With that money, I could buy nice things for Grandma and even take her to the city for medical visits,â Eileen explained, stretching out her fingers as she counted the benefits of taking care of Bryanâs daughter.
G a lno ve ls . com is where the magic begins But Conroy refused to listen.
âYouâre only focusing on the benefits. What if you harm the child? It wouldnât just affect you; Iâd be implicated too!â
âHow could that happen?â Eileen replied in confusion.
âNo one knows about your relationship with me. If I make a mistake, let him fire me. I donât need your help,â she said.
Conroy was left speechless.
âSomeoneâs coming,â Eileen said as footsteps echoed from outside. âIâm going back now. Next time, donât approach me with such minor issues. It would be problematic if our relationship were exposed.â
Having said that, Eileen turned to leave. Conroy hastily stopped her and asked, âWait. Are you moving into Mr. Dawsonâs house tonight?â
Eileen responded with slight irritation, âYes. Why do you need such details?â
âYouâre a single woman. How can you just move into a house like that? Itâs inappropriate. Listen to me and turn down the job!â Conroy sought another angle to dissuade her.
Eileen brushed off his concern with ease. âItâs fine. Besides, Iâve heard Mr. Dawsonâs wife has passed. Imagine if I take good care of his daughter and he grows fond of meâour Vazquez family will benefit from his support, right?â Conroyâs eyes widened in disbelief; he couldnât believe Eileen was considering such a possibility.
âDonât you think itâs possible?â Eileen continued, trying to convince him. âI heard Mr. Dawson lives next door to you. You live in such a nice place.â
