Chapter 749:
Jessica dismissed the greeting with a wave of her hand. Her youthful appearance was belied by an authoritative demeanor. She then took out her phone and began to scroll. As the elevator reached their floor, Eileen exited first and looked back.
Jessica was also looking at her, a trace of hostility in her eyes.
Back at her desk, Eileen wrapped up her work ahead of schedule and left work on time. She then hailed a cab to follow Jessica and Conroy, who had just left the company.
Eileen had been tailing Conroy and Jessica for blocks, maintaining a discreet distance, when her phone rang. It was Bryan.
She answered swiftly, saying, âOn duty. There lââ
âSomeone is following you,â Bryan interjected, his voice calm.
Eileen was taken aback. Glancing in her rearview mirror, she noticed a black car trailing her. Since she had joined the group, it wasnât surprising that Conroy had someone tailing her.
âWhere are you?â Eileen asked, smiling bitterly. Her lie had been exposed before she could finish it.
âIâm right in front of you,â Bryan said, with a hint of anger.
âWhat?â Eileen peered ahead and saw Bryanâs car positioned ahead of Conroy and Jessicaâs vehicle.
âConroy invited me to dinner,â Bryan explained concisely.
It dawned on Eileen that while she had thought she was following Conroy for an extended period, it had actually been Bryan all along. So, Conroy and Jessica were unaware of Bryanâs presence.

âI think Conroy will be the one feeling embarrassed,â Bryan replied nonchalantly.
Gabrielaâs babbling echoed continuously from the other end of the phone. Rubbing her forehead, Eileen responded, âGo have dinner with them and try to find out more about their relationship. Iâm heading home.â She didnât want to miss the opportunity for Bryan to gather some information for her.
âConroy introduced Jessica as the director of VQ Group,â Bryan informed her with his deep voice. âHe has no plans to make her real identity public.â
That made sense. They wouldnât dare do anything questionable in public, making it hard to obtain concrete proof of any improper relations between them.
âSo, why are you going to dinner with them? Is it for a business collaboration?â Eileen slowed her car, preparing to turn around.
âNo,â Bryan replied.
âEven though the Vazquez family holds some power in Alverton, the VQ Group is bound to fail eventually. To avoid any losses, Iâm not planning to collaborate with them. However, I might help you if you need my assistance later.â
âAlright,â Eileen replied.
Bryan continued, âConroy heard I was in town and reached out to me as a host. He has met me a couple of times before. Iâve stayed in contact with him under the pretext of seeking his help to find a nanny.â
âFind a nanny? Youâre looking for a nanny for Gabriela?â Eileen questioned, taken aback.
