Chapter 740:
âMiss Welch, if youâre finished, Iâll start working. If I donât finish the task, you can punish me. But no personal attacks, please,â Eileen said, grabbing a chair and starting to go through the documents. These files were easy for her, but with so much to do, she couldnât finish the task in one day.
At noon, she skipped lunch with Bryan and asked him to pick her up after eight in the evening. Bryan didnât reply to her texts. She figured he was displeased. She planned to work from home, hoping to avoid getting punished.
Upstairs, hearing Eileenâs reply to Savanna, Conroy felt frustrated.
âKinsey, how does she know so much?â Kinsey asked, confused.
Conroy paused for a moment, then said, âSheâs from Onaland. Maybe she thinks our workplace is full of traps. She could just be bluffing. But sheâs been bold enough to speak out, so we canât go after her directly now. We need to find a way to make her mess up at work, and then we can fire her for that.â
This meant he needed to find another chance, and Eileen could stick around at VQ Group for a bit longer.
The thought made Conroyâs head throb. He looked at Kinsey and said, âWhy donât you take a few days off and head home? Have your mother figure out how to make Eileen go back.â
âAlright, Iâll go back and ask my mom about this after work,â Kinsey replied.
After hesitating for a while, he added, âOh, and Jessica is coming back tonight.â
Conroyâs frown deepened.
âTell her not to come to the office.â

âThen keep an eye on where she is. If she doesnât see the message, stop her at the entrance and tell her to wait for me at home,â Conroy sipped some water, trying to soothe himself, but the knot of emotions in his chest wouldnât go away.
By three in the afternoon, Eileen had finished about a quarter of the work. Her arm sore from the writing, so she decided to take a quick walk to stretch and ease the ache. As she stood up, everyone in the executive department turned to look at her.
She stood there, stunned, her eyes locked on them.
Eventually, a young woman, about twenty, hurried over and whispered, âCome with me.â She then led Eileen down the hall to the break room, where a name tag on the young womanâs chest read âLenny Freeman, an intern.â
Lenny continued, âIâve only been here a week, and Miss Welch is already making my life difficult. Iâm too scared to speak up.â
âWhy were the others looking at me like that?â Eileen asked, still feeling uneasy about the stares.
Lenny chuckled. âThey might not say it, but theyâre all impressed. I bet theyâre scared youâll march into the managerâs office and give Miss Welch a piece of your mind!â
Eileen was speechless. She suddenly wondered if Raymond had felt the same pressure when she and Bryan tasked him with too much work.
