Eileen frowned and responded instinctively, “Just a regular employee in a company.”

Gianna nodded. “Oh, I figured as much. You might not realize how costly it is to have a doctor come to the house. I heard you’re from Onaland; the place is crowded with buildings. But the situation here is different. The distance and logistical challenges make it much more difficult.”

Essentially, Gianna was pointing out that hiring a doctor to come from the hospital would be too expensive for them to afford at the moment.

After a pause, Gianna continued, “Actually, your grandmother’s illness is due to worry. Since your mother passed away, her health has been poor. I had her checked before, and it’s a long-standing condition. The doctor said she should just rest at home and avoid any long trips.”

Eileen couldn’t bear it anymore and fell silent.

She resolved to find a doctor who could come over to examine Leyla at a later time.

“Are you married?” Gianna inquired once again.

“No,” Eileen replied, shaking her head.

If she admitted to being married, she would have to introduce Bryan. Hiding her own identity was easy, but hiding Bryan’s was not.

“Okay,” Eileen replied. After Gianna left, she sat on the bed and checked her phone, which had rung several times. She had fallen asleep on the way here, missing several messages from Bryan. Now, he was calling her anxiously.

Eileen quickly answered the phone. “I’ve arrived. I was just talking.”

“Send me your location,” Bryan sighed in relief, asking for her whereabouts directly.

Eileen frowned and said, “You can’t come here.”

“Are you planning to abandon Gabriela and me now that you’ve reconnected with your family?” Bryan asked, his tone sour. Eileen could hear Gabriela babbling in the background on Bryan’s end; they were likely in the hotel since there was no other noise.

“I would never abandon you, but the situation here is quite delicate. I’ve told them I’m not married,” Eileen whispered, fearing someone might overhear her. At the same time, she felt a bit uneasy for saying that.

“Eileen!” Bryan’s voice sounded frustrated. “So you’re truly going to abandon Gabriela and me now that you’ve found your real family?”

“No,” Eileen reassured him, her tone softening. “It’s just that the situation here is complicated. I’ll explain everything when we meet next time.”

Bryan snorted and said, “When is this ‘next time’ supposed to be? Are you expecting to meet me when I’m so old that Gabriela needs to push me in a wheelchair to see you?”

Since Eileen was being mysterious, it was clear that the situation had come up suddenly and wasn’t something she could easily escape from.
