Chapter 714:
Her provocation thoroughly infuriated Roderick. Determined, he slapped her across the face. He then shoved her onto the sofa, pointed at her nose, and said, âEnough! I want to know where you got the money to buy the apartment. If you donât tell me today, weâre done!â The slap left half of Judieâs face stinging.
Covering her face, Judie sat dazed for a moment before it dawned on her that Roderick, usually so compliant with her, had actually hit her. She looked up abruptly and saw Roderickâs eyes filled with anger, which instantly dampened her rage. Were they over? Was this a hint at divorce? Where would she find another man like Roderick?
âRoderick, hear me out. This was all your motherâs idea. Iâve been trying to talk her out of it!â Judie was scared, so she got up and wept as she explained, âEileenâs real parents reached out to your mother. Your mother saw it as a missed opportunity if she didnât make some money, so she demanded an apartment from them. Those people arenât living well, and Eileenâs grandmother, on her deathbed, was desperate to see Eileen one last time. She continued with her usual story, claiming Eileen had become wealthy and that her relatives might try to take advantage of her.â
She went on, âShe said Denise had asked her to find someone who could impersonate Eileen to meet the family.â
But now, the truth had come out. The person who had impersonated Eileen had been arrested. Since the apartment was in Deniseâs name, the police had arrested Denise directly.
âYou are so cruel!â Roderick shoved Judie. âYou think everyone is as heartless as you? Eileenâs real grandmother is dying. She wants to see Eileen one last time. If she doesnât, she might die with regret! How could you do this?â
Roderickâs push sent Judie tumbling to the floor. In shock, she stared at Roderick, who seemed like a different person now. She quickly defended herself. âRoderick, Iâm not to blame. Itâs your motherââ
âEnough!â Roderick cut her off. âMy mother is nearly sixty. Iâve known her for almost thirty years. I know her well. The riskiest thing she ever did was take a loan from a loan shark, and even then, she was scared. She could never orchestrate such a scheme.â
He looked at Judie with disappointment. âI thought you were just bitter and greedy, but youâre actually malicious! Judie, just wait. Weâll get a divorce once my motherâs situation is sorted.â

Divorce?
The word hit Judie like a bolt from the blue. She collapsed to the floor. After Roderick left, she began crying loudly. The nanny had just managed to soothe the baby to sleep. When she heard Judieâs cries, she quickly descended the stairs to comfort her.
âJudie, stop crying. The baby just fell asleep. Whatâs so severe that you and your husband canât discuss it calmly?â the nanny asked.
âHe wants a divorce. He wonât discuss anything with me now!â Judieâs mind was in turmoil. How could she manage without Roderick? Returning to South Town to marry a divorced man would be her only option if she divorced him.
The nanny replied, âYou two just welcomed your baby not long ago. How could he truly want a divorce? Heâs probably just upset. Have a proper conversation with him when he returns. Iâm sure he doesnât really want a divorce.â
