Eileen blushed and gently pushed Bryan away, unable to suppress a smile as she noticed Gabrielaâs animated expression.
Gabriela wriggled closer to Eileen and planted a kiss on her lips.
It seemed like she aimed to kiss Eileen where Bryan had.
Bryan chuckled. He gently pulled Gabriela back and explained, âThat spot is just for you. You can kiss her anywhere else.â
âMommyâs cheeks, okay?â
âNo, no!â Gabriela was visibly upset, flailing her little arms in protest.
When she continued to resist, Bryan put her down. She then placed her hands on the railing, attempting to climb up to reach Eileen for a kiss. Bryan intermittently tugged at her clothes. She glanced back, waved her little arm at Bryan as if to hit him, then turned back, continuing to climb.
After several attempts, Gabriela grew frustrated and sat down on the grass, bursting into tears. Bryan, feeling amused after teasing her, picked her up again but continued saying things she couldnât understand.
âSweetheart, you can have anything you want, just donât try to steal Mommy from me,â Bryan said.
Hearing this, Eileen burst into laughter, walked around the iron fence, and entered the house.
Ruby, who was cooking in the kitchen, wore a smile. She had watched the entire scene unfold from the kitchen window.
âIâm so happy for you,â Ruby said to Eileen, her eyes welling up with tears. âItâs been so long since Iâve seen you laugh like that.â
It had been six months since Bryanâs plane crash. Whether Eileen was immersed in her work or spending time with Gabriela at home, her face had always borne a shade of sadness before. Ruby had noticed this and felt deeply sympathetic. But she had refrained from constantly urging Eileen to cheer up, fearing it might overwhelm her.
âI think weâll only be smiling from now on.â Eileen handed a tissue to Ruby and said, âMom, Iâm sorry Iâve caused you a lot of worry before.â
Ruby wiped her tear-streaked cheeks and said, âYouâre my daughter. Of course, I worry about you.â
While Eileen and Ruby were talking, Bryan, unable to persuade Gabriela to stay outside, carried her into the villa.
Then, Gabriela expressed a desire to be held by Eileen. Once in Eileenâs arms, she grabbed Eileenâs head, attempting to plant a kiss.
Bryan was left speechless. He unbuttoned his cuffs and rolled up his sleeves, humorously mimicking as if he were preparing to discipline Gabriela.
After Gabriela kissed Eileen, she turned to flash a triumphant smile at Bryan, seemingly taunting him. Bryan playfully responded to Gabrielaâs provocation, gently tapping her back twice with his fist. She then lay in Eileenâs arms, pretending to be aggrieved.
Eileen paid no mind to Gabrielaâs dramatics. Seeing this, Gabriela burst into tears.
